(I suck at Photoshop, so I did mine in Paint.)

My hatred for the Upgrade card systems for Elements is well documented.  It's also a losing battle on my part.  So I figured, if I can't get rid of it entirely, might as well even the odds:

I started with the Evolution card idea, remembered about the Best Weapon Competition, and kept going from there.

    One of the best things I like about Elements is the way it takes advantage of it's electronic media -- it's not tied down like paper, physical card games are.  Elements can do things like mutation, fate egg, carrying over quanta to the next turn (with it automatically calculated), percent shield effects, and randomizing shield effects in general.  Physical card games can't do these things or they do them very poorly.  The Upgrade System is another resource that they can't take advantage of.  It's also (I think) an underutilized resource.These cards also give newbies a chance to play around with upgraded cards without having to grind for the Electrum.Note that you could use the Staff of Evolution on itself and change it's ability (and vice versa).Also note that newbies with completely "downgraded" decks will be completely immune to the downgrade ability.I was going to include a spell that upgraded and downgraded the cards in your hand and in your opponent's hand, but I think it gets starts to get a little complicated.

Although that one is a spell and yours is a weapon with a spell on it.

As to the others, yes they would work and could be quite useful in a deck but watch out for steals.

Hey it's alright most idea we come up with have been done already (I have so far catelogued almost 2500 Card Ideas out of these threads) so don't worry if it has been said before. if we did no-one would make card ideas anyway.

I like what you have done giving it to a weapon although I think it would be better as Entropy as that has mutate etc.

I thought about Entropy, but the reverse wouldn't work (Genesis).  Entropy isn't just "mutation," it's chaos.  Genesis makes it more simple (less chaotic), so I chose Life.

edit: I guess it works in the card in the link.  That's kind of an either/or kind of thing.  Mine works a little bit differently.

Ok so if we have another look at the cards:

Staffs:
Both of these are great, could be life but an interesting ability would be to have Life as the unupped activate and Death as the Upped (remembering Life gives, Death takes away)

Evolution/Genesis Card
This again as above could be interesting to change but I think just leave it as Life.

Shield:
Now this I think could be Entropy as it is a random effect not a gaurenteed one.

Just some thoughts anyway.

Weapons contest is over unfortunately :( , I came up with practcly the same idea a while ago so I support this.

It is definately something of use to have and fairly well supported.
