check out the latter posts in the non-basic pillars thread in the design theory subforum, it basically shows that having a cost associated with a pillar is a major detriment in its reliability and production, i would suggest removing the initial cost from the upgraded at the very least

to some extent it ends up being a free quint, i suppose, as it pays for itself.  actually i guess that makes it op even if it has a 1 casting cost attached to it, making it a quint that can potentially be removed with pc, but thats still a lot for a 1 cost card, not sure how to balance that one.

sacrifice card to make target creature immaterial for x turns? make it more of a "oh shit. need a quick quint on my creature" card?

I had the idea of pillar who can sacrifice them self but I'll think about it later, when I complete this serie. yeah It's prety similar to a quint but can target different creatures each turn, but need to be payed every turns.
I think it's different enough though.

i think you should be able to pay its playing cost with any kind of quanta, 2 for unnuped and 1 for upped it makes more sense as you will be able to splash them into other decks that dont have a reliable  :aether production

That's actually a very very good idea. Though it may imply that I'll do the same for all the other Obelisk no ?

yes. if its considered a "pure" quanta generator (solar shield is not "pure" in my definition just so you can understand) then i believe they should be able to mix in any deck with no trouble or quanta condition

For my point they aren't pure, so I may let them as they currently are.
They aren't pure because they aren't made only for quanta generation but more specially for their other effects.

meh, i see this as the equivalent of non-basic terrains in MtG so they still are pillars to me, just more complexe ones
