NOTES:
So the idea behind this card still is coming from my thoughts on growing appendages. Here you are taking advantage of lifes ability to generate and you are constructing for yourself an extra arm. which you can then use to hold extra weapons. the point of this is to give you a way to play multiple weapons that doesnt require them to be played as creatures (flying weapon) or as an added affect to current creatures (crusader). I think the idea fits pretty well with the life element.

the jade staff goes into the permanent slot where is grow appendage

Question time:
What if i play grow appendage and then a weapon while my weapon slot is empty?
Reading the card wording, i think it goes to grow appendage slot, but i want to be sure.

If my opponent destroys my weapon played on my grow appendage, what does remains?
    nothinga weapon slot/grow appendage
I think nothing should remains, but again, i want to be sure.

If i play an animate weapon when my slot is empty but i have a weapon on grow appendage, what happens?

I wasnt sure. This is my initial guess as to cost. (it was based off of crusader rather than animate weapon, in hindsight i could have gone halfway between).

Edit: i also didnt think it made thematic sense to make it relatively easy to grow another arm. but i could always adjust the cost.

i play grow appendage

to the first example. yes, the jade staff would go to the grown appendage first. if there was already a weapon on grown appendage then it would go to your weapon slot.

As far as my initial reaction to the destruction of a weapon on grown appendage, I think something that actually destroys the weapon (deflag, BE, etc) should leave you with nothing.

As far as things that move the weapon elsewhere (animate weapon, steal, etc) I havent decided really what should happen. it might make sense in that case to be left with an empty grown appendage.

I'd rather you not make "grow appendage" just another weapon slot, that's boring and I think it's been done before.
The original flavor that I was attracted to was the mechanic "next time you play X, do Y instead of what normally happens."
Dunno how you can capitalize on that mechanic with a "grow appendage" theme, though. Bummer.

Well, two reasons, i thought it would be nice to have something that lets you play more weapons as perms instead of as creatures, especially against creature control heavy decks. Also, I thought it would be nice to have the ability to play 13 weapons if you so fancy, (6 animate weapons, 1 weapon slot, 6 grow appendages.)

but i guess I should throw up a poll and see what people think the cost should be.

Well a side effect that i thought i could throw in was that if your growing another arm, you could grapple with the opponent and use this permanent to steal their weapon or something along those lines. for example, "next weapon that is played, gets played to grow appendage" or " :earth : grapple. Target weapon or shield slot is disabled for a turn" (imagine using this extra hand to hold back their attack or their shield.)
