Instakill is widely regarded as a bad design mechanic in EtG.

It's instakill, but in the same way freeze and shockwave is instakill, and I don't think anyone uses that...

Well if Freeze + Shockwave is not used for 2 :water + 2 :air, then this for (12 :gravity +)4 :gravity + x is hardly going to be used either

I'd just like to point out that this + Momentum + Warden is actually a decent 3-card combo. However, in its current state, this is so expensive I find it very hard to believe this would be put in any deck.  I'd suggest lowering the casting cost, at the very least.

Fair point, but one has a fairly restrictive condition and the other is % chance based, plus the latter compensates for the "death" effect. I suppose a better way to state is that 1-card instakill doesn't usually occur here without restrictions.
