A PNG only has channels, not layers.
False. Have you ever tried Adobe Fireworks?

Oh, wait. I think "layer" is not the correct term. The correct term might be "object". Fireworks allows you to edit images as objects, because it is mainly used to edit vector graphics. In my personal opinion, I think Photoshop's layer system is incredibly clumsy compared to Firework's object system.
Fireworks isn't a true graphic editing program, you're comparing two different things. ;)
So long and thanks for all the fish!

If we want close to perfect upgraded card effect, we first have to really zoom in an see what Zanz did.

Bloodshadow, your version has only one gradient, top-left. But if you look closely, Zanz used 3 different gradients (at least I think he did), strong gradient on top of the card, and lesser gradients on top-left and bottom-right corners.

Also you need to use a transparent gradient to get the correct effect.

To save everyones time and to fix this problem once and for all, I updated the ULTIMATE card template.

It now has:

- new easier to use grouping system
- icons for spells and permanents
- upgraded card template (effect + title)

This template should now be able to do everything you need and is graphically very close to what Zanz did.

The definition of "graphic editing program" depends on your definition of "graphics". If your definition of graphics only includes bitmaps, then of course. I personally dislike bitmaps and prefer vectors.

Zanz used THREE gradients?! OK, I'm just a normal student who only learned to use Fireworks in a school course two years ago. You can't expect me to replicate the effects of a professional graphics designer like Zanz.

SG, thanks for your template update. Downloading now.
To be or not to be, I can do both at once. Go learn quantum mechanics, n00b.
