I think what I submitted for the revamped CIA voting would work here as well.
Make ppl give a score to each submission, then rank submissions based on the average score.
How does this resolve the vote tax problem?
Well it mitigates it in my view. Even if you rate your team's submission to 10, nothing forbids you from rating some quite good other submissions to 9 or even 10. Even all of them, if you think all of them deserve it.
And IMO with the non-biased voters taken into account, it will give a better representation than the current option.
That is half the vote tax problem.
The part you are missing is that your proposal requires some brawlers to either betray their team (not vote) or also make uniformed ratings on other other submissions.
How do you solve this?
If every brawler does exactly that, then the 1s and 10s will average out, and thus, letting the unbiased voters decide the rankings based the on the sheer quality of the submissions.
This is how I see it anyways. I might be missing the point.
I was assuming honest voters (aka ones that would either rank all honestly or not vote at all).
Take me as an example:
I am specialized on card design thus I can easily cast an informed vote. However I have
no aesthetic sense. Thus I cannot cast an informed vote on art. (Hence any vote I would make on art is an uninformed vote)
Assuming I am an honest voter, and on a brawl team, I would have to choose between not voting (thus depriving my team of one of its free 10s) or make uninformed ratings on the other submissions (thus defeating the purpose of a merit based competition).
How do you solve this problem?
