Not sure I like this.
I would want actual creature themed weapons. Creatures in weapon slots just seems lame.
And making a whole host of creature themed weapons and the art for them would be a huge undertaking.
Also, I think it may be OP as CC. 4 life quanta could make 3 creature just disappear, with one remaining in the creature slot. Unless I'm mistaken.
Also a potentially OP buff-on crimson dragons for example.

2. Compare to Animate Weapon. They wouldn't be new cards, and wouldn't have new art.
3. Note that I had some doubts about making it targetable on enemy creatures. If that is deemed OP, then I'll change it.
4. Compare to Plate Armor | Heavy Armor. It's still destroyable by PC.

Yeah, using it on the enemy is the sketchy part. Other than that, I really like the card.

Extreme case 1:
Targetable on enemies - you can pack 6 of these into a mono life rush to give your deck one "destroy weapon" effect and five "instakill enemy creature" effects. And you can still use it on your own creature to dodge CC!

Extreme case 2:
Only targetable on own creatures - it's hard to imagine packing more than 3 of these. How many times are you realistically going to want to destroy your own creatureweapon just to replace it with another one.

Possible compromise?
You can target enemy creatures with this, but the spell will fail completely if the weapon slot is already occupied. You still probably won't pack 6 of these, but you might pack 4 or 5 so that you can swiftly stuff your opponent's first good creature into the weapon slot, forcing him to kill it if he wants his weapon out. (or giving you a chance to PC it in a non-mono)

I think it should have its cost upped to account for the weapon destroying ability but work as it does now.

No, i think the cost is fine. After all, a deflagration costs 2 :fire and an explosion costs 1 :fire BUT they have the power to destroy every permanent.
This can destroy ONLY a weapon, but needs a creature to work. If the opponent got no creature, you can't do the trick.
The only thing that worry me is that if you use one after all, you can kill many creatures.
Maybe you can add a side effect: if the actual weapon is a living/biological weapon, add ATK and HP to the old one, and replace the ability. (need to take HP in account too, because you can "Animate Weapon" the resulting merged creature!)

Maybe it should create a new weapon, called "Living weapon" that gets the creature ability and stats if the weapon slot is empty, or adds to existing weapon (replacing the ability) if the weapon slot is full.
Softer control, but i think it's more balanced (maybe?)
