To be fair Haink, I think their plan was to get thorn shield out turn 3 and then having all the creatures get poisoned and die while slowly healing back up with sanctuaries. This isn't a terrible plan if you expected mummies and spiders, or even a deck which primarily kills by poison. It is less effective against dragons, and it turns out they were up against a lot of dragons.
Also for their plan to work, 4 thorn shields were probably necessary. 2 in 36 is not good odds for drawing 1 in the top 10.
