Yeah, at first I thought that would work too, but then I thought "what if I just wanted to use my own creature's skills without doing them harm" so that way I can take freeze from my artic squid and use it on an enemy creature instead from freezing my own squiddy 
...and it would work like that, this what I said.
You use EP's ability, you get targeting for Mimic
You target Squid, you get targeting for Freeze
You target enemy creature, it Freezes, EP's ability never changed from Mimic
