NOTES:
This is from all sources. If Genbu is Gravity Pulled, the damage is reduced for each creature. Multiple hitting spells (Fire Bolt, Ice Bolt, Drain Life) only have the damage reduction 1 time. So a Fire Bolt at 10 :fire would do 5 damage. There has been a lot of discussion that this card doesn't fit the "water" theme, however as I've stated turtles (tortoises) are known for their defensive characteristics, and turtles have always been associated with water.

Additonal notes:
Ancient Chinese believe that Genbu represents long life, wisdom and strength. The tortoise and the snake are seen as spiritual creatures that symbolize longevity. It is common knowledge that tortoises in general have long life therefore they are associated with immortality.
With the two abilities combined, Genbu can stay alive for a long time.

The damage reduction is a Passive Inate Ability like Devourer and can't be Lobotomized.
Snake Bite is an Activated Ability and can be Lobotomized.

Good card, only thing I can think of for a change is the HP, I think at least the unupped version should have hp of 4, so then at least lightning can still kill it.  Right now it is immune to all the damage cards (at default damage, bolt 3 dmg, drain and ice bolt 2 dmg)

The upgraded one would be a really good way to draw out AIs cc. I wouldn't mind seeing the unupped ones attack reduced by 1 to further the reason of a +1 cost to the upped one. But I guess then its just a more expensive sturdy toadfish with no cc ability.

Nice card, tbh when I think of it now, it seems like one of those things that should've been around as long as quintessence was... good job! :)

Good idea. I like it, although I was thinking about a spell which does this.
One drawback: My Otyughs with Momentum and Quintessence would eat it in the first round :D

While I see the :water Water element as a defensive element, I see damage reduction more of :earth Earth's territory. Maybe anything aiming at Genbu has a chance to be frozen? Gravity Pull on Genbu could freeze enemy creatures, creatures targeting Genbu could be frozen and direct CC from hand could freeze the enemy's weapon.

Just my 2 :electrum though.

I'm not sure how freezing would go with a giant turtle, maybe for an Ice Giant?

Perhaps I'll do one after I'm done with Suzaku and Byakko.

Any other thoughts on the card?

i was actually just about to make a similar comment about it feeling more like an :earth card.  however, :water is rich with duo abilities, so maybe make it an activated ability costing :earth or :earth :earth, and reducing the :water cost of the card itself?

When you think about Pufferfish, the Balance of this card makes a lot of sense. I don't think it needs any more cost lowering, but I do agree that damage reduction seems much more Earth-like.

Quote from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Tortoise
The Black Tortoise is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations. It is sometimes called the Black Warrior of the North (北方玄武, Běi Fāng Xuán Wǔ), and is known as Genbu in Japan, Hyeonmu in Korea and Huyền Vũ in Vietnam. It represents the north and the winter season. Although its name in Chinese, Xuánwǔ, is often translated as Black Tortoise in English, it is usually depicted as both a tortoise and a snake, specifically with the snake coiling around the tortoise.
From what I read there ^ the card seems more related to :water through winter, or :time through the past (further down in the article). Perhaps add an ability like "Attacks while frozen."?
