Quote from: The Communal Card Creation team
The Communal Card Creation team congratulates Pride | Pride (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,26459) received a notable 3rd place only lagging behind by 1 vote in the Card Design Challenge's "New Passive" competition. Stone Guardian|Stone Warrior (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,26295.0.html) and Graviton Buckler | Graviton Aegis (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,26461.0.html) tied for 1st. We find these Passive abilities (Pride, Resilient and Gravitation) to be valuable if added to the game.

NOTES:
V2: 4|5 7|4 0 : Empower
V1: 4|5 7|5 :darkness : Greater Good
Passive (perpetual) ability: Pride - If the number if creatures on your side of the field is greater than the number of creatures on your opponents' side of the field, then Pride does not attack.
Active (triggered) ability: 1 :darkness : Greater Good - Sacrifice the target creature, Pride gains +1/+1.

Of all the mechanics in my archived Sinner | Wretch (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,12217) idea, this one was my favorite. I decided to revive it after I realized it had a passive ability.
Cards to use with it: Buffs(Chaos Power/Blessing/Rage Potion), Aflatoxin, Fodder(Spark/Photon/Deja Vu), Nightmare(against stupid AI), Chimera(makes Fractal viable).

Frankly, 4|5 for 2 :light is extremely OP, and your ability doesn't make it balanced.

Seems more like a  :fire (destroying your resources) ability than a  :darkness (stealing/converting your opponent's resources)

Frankly, 4|5 for 2 :light is extremely OP, and your ability doesn't make it balanced.
I think it makes it plenty balanced. The most advantageous part of high damage-cost creatures is that you can rush. However, you can't rush with only 1 creature. In addition, most rushes will have creatures that have more than 4 attack (unupped) or more than 7 attack (upped).

Elite Cockatrice costs 3 :life, for 5|5, and Life has an automatic card cost reduction bonus. This card is simply better than that card, and Light doesn't really have an elemental card-playing bonus.

I think this would work much better,  and be easier to balance, if the Greater Good activated ability was discarded.
Horned Frog is a 3|3 unupped for 2 :life
Elite Cockatrice is a 5|5 upgraded for 3 :life
4|1 - 4|5 unupped is worth 3 :light
7|1 - 7|5 upgraded is worth 4-5 :light
I do not believe that Pride is worth a full -1 quanta cost so the stats selected should be from the lower end of the range and perhaps a -1 upgrade reduction is called for over a -2.
I would estimate 4|3 Pride, 6|6 Pride as being worth 2 :light|4 :light. [remember Light is meant to be CC resistant]

I think that this card would have a negative "draw cost" if the ability were discarded. Prides would most often become dead cards or require CC to use on yourself.

Cost calculation:
Phase spider/recluse -1 cost +2 HP

Pride is not worth a full -1 cost. (+2hp not mentioned)
Prides would be put in decks where they are unlikely to be dead draws (like all cards are).
However you are right that Empower adds to the card.
Pride's cost reduction would be classified as a negative skill value not a draw cost.

If you want to try and make me a deck where its high cost-to-damage ratio can make it faster than even a basic tower rush, then be my guest. To make them "not dead draws", then you would need some aflatoxin or be facing a rush . Against a creatureless deck, you'd be screwed. The only way to make them "not dead draws" would be to reserve deck space for complementary cards of a specific strategy, but then the deck would end up being slow.
