Really, REALLY close. Great games. Fire somehow pulled another deck we didn't predict. I only wish you would get second place.
this is why i like amilir.
anyway i beat fire, thats all i cared about this war, great job to both teams.
War #3 will definitely be improved so that teams who lose in the same round have their tie broken by win %, rather than the somewhat random stat of cards remaining. Life did an outstanding job this war and you guys continually surprised us each round, and made us realize we couldn't take you for granted ... but I think that if we are really being fair it's not really a negative comment against anyone to say that Fire did better overall than Life and probably deserves second place more.
I disagree. While perhaps life had a low win percentage, due to the nature of cascading discards (discarding less in the earlier rounds), win/loss ratios can be deceptive. Life's early losses almost helped it, it enabled us to weed out which decks were failures.
To illustrate my point, Life went 1-8 one round. Death did as well. But because life went 1-8 /early/, we were less penalized by it than death. The fact that life had such a low win percentage and still did well means life won the more important games. We managed to keep our vault clean in the later rounds, and our initial strategy allowed us to overcome a perhaps poorly made vault. That, right there, is why I believe we earned 3rd place.
In future wars, the system I believe would be most fair would be to look at the number of cards each team had going /into/ the round. If light goes 0-3 and loses, and gravity goes 0-1 but finishes with 29 cards left, light should get the win, because they had 90+ cards before their losing round, while gravity only had 59.
