NAME:
Deviation
ELEMENT:

COST:

TYPE:

ATK|HP:
TEXT:
Alters the target creature's attack and hit points each turn
NAME:
Variance
ELEMENT:
Entropy
COST:
3 :entropy
TYPE:
Spell
ATK|HP:
TEXT:
Alters the target creature's attack and hit points each turn
ART:
moomoose
IDEA:
moomoose
NOTES:
Deviation and Variance will be marked on a creature by the addition of an :entropy icon

Deviation alters the creature's ATK and HP by between -2 and +2 each turn (independent of each other).
It is possible for this to kill a creature, leaving room for strategy as to who to apply it on and when.
chances breakdown- 10% -2, 10% -1, 20% 0, 30% +1, 30% +2

Variance alters the creature's ATK and HP by between 0 and +3 each turn (independent of each other).
It is not possible for this to kill a creature, potentially altering the relevant strategic methods
chances breakdown- 20% 0, 30% +1, 30% +2, 20% +3
This is effectively a chaos power over time spell, at a higher cost, slower growth.

Deviation seems fine, but I don't think variance is balanced. It might be like chaos power over time, but the unlimited growth for free (beyond the initial cost) seems problematic. On average it's gaining 1.5/1.5 a turn, like growth does, but on any creature and for free.

What QuantumT said.

I like the idea of different mechanics as that is something entropy already has with chaos seed/chaos power and pandemonium...

Maybe there should be an upkeep on the Variance and if you can't pay it it disappears. Maybe 3 :entropy per creature per turn?

yeah, i see what you mean, but it is still the cost of 3 chaos powers to put it in relative terms

to flesh it out, best case scenario of 3 chaos powers = +18 in 1 turn, best case scenario of 1 variance to reach +18 is 6 turns, over those 6 turns that is alot of potential damage lost while charging up

honestly i would rather mess with the %s (and/or the range) than add some new layer to the card. the cost is up for tweeking too.  i just dont want to delve into the kael card danger zone

But it's also only one card. Card cost (ie number of cards) is important in cost comparisons as well.

thats true, but its also true that chaos power stacks, while this does not.  like i said, there is plenty of areas to potentially tweek without adding a new layer or something.  any suggestions would be welcome

Deviation seems UP. I suggest taking out the chance of it getting -1. That makes a 25% chance to get either -2, 0, 1, 2, and you can see a steady increase. Otherwise, on average, Deviation will do nothing.

good point.  the origin of the idea was the concept of standard deviations, which is an even distribution around the mean.  alternatively, the %s could be shifted towards the increase by reducing the chances of decreases, leaving the range the same

It seems to me that deviation is cheaper than variance and more powerful.
