Well if you want it simular but different how about on the cost.  ||  :water (asborb  :earth) Mudflation || The absorb is not an upkeep but a part of the activaton cost. With out it you can't use the ability. Sorta make it a dual quanta ability. (Kael said it had to be coded  :time (absorb  :gravity) because  :time :gravity can't be done. Just like it can't be done in the casting cost.All due to the way the code is writen.)

 Actually, you could wipe out a mud monster with lots of water, it would dilute them to death I think. It could grow with a controlled amount of water, but be overwhelmed with flooding amount.

What if its HP grew and shrank, rather then it's attack? That would make more different then steam machine. Yes, growing HP isn't all that useful, but with a decent attack, it isn't useless either.
