Free Writing Competition:
Poetry in the Spirit of Elements
Vote the Entry that best fills the objective:Objective:
- Write a Article of Poetry based on the games opening text.
- Have the result in such a nature that a feeling of conflict, such that the game gives, is felt.
- If a cutscreen was given in Elements the Game, the piece could be used as a presented literary for the game player.
- Contestents are encouraged not to humanise the Elemental even though, you as the player are human, but rather "Elementalise" the feeling for the Human reader.
"The player is an elemental, a spirit composed of an element; elements are the fundamental building blocks of nature. Each elemental has an arsenal of skills that can be used in a duel against another elemental."
Sometimes it seems that even if there are plenty of entries that none come up to task, so I have given the option for none.
I've also included my entry in the list. If it wins the prize will be passed down but it will allow the entrants to see how they matched up.
Please take the time to read them all. Even tho some of the work is not conventional a lot of effort has gone into the works and there is, in my opinion, some good stuff here.
Thankyou for spending the time either as a reader or a writer and good luck to all entrants.
LightwielderBy Kael HateLightwielderBy Kael Hate
I am a being, of the Light.
Energy of the sun, is at my call.
To the enemy, I take the fight.
Ready, to make them fall.
Bright Morningstar, as my sword.
With Air, I make it fly.
With immaterialism, as its ward.
It serves, never will it die.
With Fire, as my partner.
And Deflagration, sundering tower.
Slaying, elemental brother.
I’ll claim, the holy power.
For whom the bell tollsBy Gl1tch For whom the bell tollsThere is a saying, in the swamps
And I can't say the saying's wrong
Now it's told, down in the those haunts
The dead aren't staying, they aren't dead long
And so, when a body's buried
A bell is tied to the dead man's toe
And if a traveler is wary
When undead rise, he will know
There was once a naïve king
Walking through an unkempt grave
And when the bells began to ring
He knew not the warning, so he stayed
And up from the tombstones came a hand
Followed by a dreadful moan
And up from the earth rose an undead man
Who found the king: scared, alone
And so the undead beast then said
To the king, "It's time you were told"
"This is the day that all men dread"
"It is for you, the death bell tolls"
The old king screamed, "it cannot be"
"Today is not my day to die"
"I am a king, and as you'll see"
"While you are death, I am the sky"
The great king flapped his mighty wings
Beat them with defiant pride
The wind knocked down the tombstone rings
and knocked down all who weren't inside
But the skeleton just held it's ground
And gave the king a stare that made him cold
"Do you hear that gonging sound?"
"It is for you, the death bell tolls"
The king heard a noise, is his mind
A banging sound, so loud and clear
It clanged and gonged and blasted and chimed
so it was all the king could hear
"It cannot be" he said at last
"For I am too strong for death"
"I'll stay alive until it's passed"
"And fend it off with dragon's breath"
So this king of sky, dragon of air
Let of a roar that made the ground roll
But the skeleton stood and did not care
"It is for you the death bell tolls"
And the mighty king flew far away
"Death won't catch me, I am too fast"
But soon he felt his wings decay
Into the graveyard he soon crashed
He saw the source of all the rings
That bell of death inside his head
It was fate his flight would bring
him to a tomb stone; and it said
"Here lies a now dead beast"
"But soon it will rise again"
"To charge and roar and kill and feast"
"And make mortals meet their end"
It had an image, carved below
The king was shocked at what it shown
And soon his fears began to grow
This grave was for a dragon, bone
The king turned and began to plead
"Wind dragons are not meant to die"
"Please undead, do let me leave"
"I want to live, I want to fly"
The words the undead spoke were sad
"I was once alive like you"
"But we both used the time we had"
"You know what you have to do."
The undead raised a boney point
There was a coffin for the king
"It is high time that you joined"
"The place of which the angels sing"
The air dragon began to weep
"But I do not have a good soul"
The undead sighed, "It's time you sleep"
"It is for you the death bell tolls."
So the king of might lay down
And dropped his head, and closed his eyes
And walked toward the ringing sound
The great air dragon then had died
And from a grave a new roar leapt
A skeleton woke inside his home
And from the earth, a beast then left
A king of death, a dragon bone
Even the mighty king of wind
Could not escape the dreadful ring
Upon the day your health rescinds
The sound of death, a bell will bring
The bell's sweet rhythm never sounds
Quite the same to every ear
But each and every death bell pounds
With rhythm, clanging loud and clear
Dead reader, have you realized yet?
Why my story has been told?
I'll tell you now why we have met.
It is for you this death bell tolls.
Dead without a reasonBy slovenc555Dead without a reason
You stray onto the open air,
but you can only breathe despair.
So do not try to run or hide,
for death shall be your only bride.
If you manage to brake free,
you will wake up but you wont see.
If you don't want to be awake,
Life will pass you like a striking snake.
Hear me sing, hear me roar,
soon your mind shall be soar.
For now you live, but when you die,
noone will be there to say goodbye.
And so you stand and so you wait,
not knowing that you are just a bait.
Now the world is trough with you,
only one more thing for you to do.
Do as told and do it well,
you are just an empty shell.
If you ever take a brake,
your life will be just a fake.
Despite the fact that you are dead,
noone is really sad.
So I give you another chance,
to take revenge in battlestance.
Why don't you wake up and see,
that is happening to me.
I burn in eternal hell,
and yet my body is my only cell.
Abrupt BeginningsBy SunnyGreensAbrupt BeginningsUntold struggles await the spirit, so what soul resides within you?
A life must cling to purpose and declare to which it's due
One might reckon the answer elementary, but rest assured will embroil
Among twelve elements which inhabit this plane on which you toil
Earth humbly enduring, providing little relief
Fire brightly burning, ardent yet brief
Air dancing above, far striking and keen-eyed
Water flowing free, shield and cudgel echo the tide
Light forever radiant, striving to strengthen and abate
Time surprisingly malleable, for something bound by fate
Darkness ever deepening, an unrepentant thief
Gravity unrelenting, its push and pull a persistent grief
Entropy reliably fickle, utterly unbound by constant flux
Life so frenzied, unabated energy at its crux
Aether standing still, eternal and unchanging
Death strangely vibrant, persistent in its scourging
Though but one element at heart only fools dare neglect
Other elemental skills with the energies they direct
Twelve elements inhabit this plane so severe
Twelve elements you must master should you wish to persevere.
CausalityBy ratcharmerCausalityLittle lives begin,
and end just as fast.
Pawns in the universal game.
Enough stone grinds together,
and they call it a world--
but the great firey sun disagrees,
and leaves ash where once the world stood.
Bright stars shine in the darkness,
following paths the universal pull dictates.
When they leave the darkness returns,
and all of it ends in despair.
Cool water and blistering wind,
meeting at the eternal deserts end.
Just a couple more pieces
in the game the elements play.
DecayBy HyroenDecayI am the looming, interweaving pest that haunts your dreams,
come at me with your strongest hit, your undeveloped teams.
I'll drain you of your energy and leave you there to rot,
if you think I'll go it easy, reconsider, think it not.
I'll pester you with pests galore and leave you on an empty floor,
with creatures that I do adore; you'll beg me soon to stop.
As they can appear from there and here, and leave you with your cards and fear,
devouring your soul and watch you drop.
Knowing what you face, I'd think you wouldn't even dare,
but you're a fool that dares to dream, and what you dream of, I don't care.
Though through all your trying struggles, and through all our testing strife,
I'll spare you of your misery by siphoning your life.
Eternal PhoenixBy TerrokingEternal Phoenix*ahem*
The Phoenix Eternal,
Stands by my side.
It's glory and splendor is mine.
It will attack on command,
Bringing flames to you all,
And rebirth from it's ashes of death.
They number the thousands,
They number the millions,
They come for your children and wife.
They see you in daylight,
They see you in shadow.
They see you for all that is time.
You cannot escape them,
You cannot remove them.
You can watch only the fire and flames.
The Phoenix Eternal,
Stands by my side.

Eyes open anew
light streaming through spring branches
give hidden power
drinking from rivers
growing stronger with their aid
green leaves grow restless
fall colors encroach
along with its frozen breath
and struggle begins
doomed to a slow death
life retreats into the earth
to wait for its chance
water and air reign
freezing breath, blanketing snow
they too, slowly die
light burns them away
slowly, inevitably
life stirs once again

In Nomine Elementalis
Birthing womb, rise from the tomb.
In your name we place our offer,
Let your child feed from this coffer.
Flaming heart, breathe your art.
Twelve candles attop the altar,
'Tis your life's brick and mortar.
Eye of dusk, bring forth the husk.
Hope and virtue will be quenched,
Your name in stone shall be etched.
Empty mind, stare smitten blind.
Strike down your mighty blow,
Crush the infidel's bone and marrow.
With patience and will, even a feather can kill.
Swords shatter, arrows you can stand a billion,
Your only true repose stands to be oblivion.
Only OneBy KuroaitouOnly OneA Shockwave in the distance, resonating wars,
The clashing of spirits to obtain more powers;
Eternal Ash and Flooding waves, dying Sparks and stars,
Supernovae casting shadows against Stone Towers.
Elementals once content with their land,
Now battle under moon and sun,
In darkness and light over swamp and sand,
They all figure that there can be only one.
Wielding Jade Staffs and slinging cosmic spells,
Armies of creatures rush against their angry foes,
Some die turning into Malignant Cells,
While others fight on without reason or woes.
Summons abound, and as the end comes near,
The beings can’t assume the fight is done;
Strong divinities with false names, soon appear,
The conflicts persist until there’s only one.
Massive Dragons loom above, and little Pests begin to feed,
Soon the sky rains lightning, leaving Skeletons behind,
A Voodoo Doll becomes frozen once hit by a pink seed,
Now the God can’t control time, unable to Rewind.
The best shows no mercy, owning quite a rare collection;
Their monsters and skills have let their life go completely undone;
Upon looking at a mirror – wait, is that your reflection?
Are you the strongest elemental? Are you the only one?
