Mafia 60 - Robotic Crimes


Memo, 23rd March 2087:
"A murder. Last night. Again. They warned us that improving the skills of the robots could backfire some day. But we never thought it could become that bad. More and more people are dying, and the townsfolk is driving more radical every day. We have no other choice... we must take care of those issues. From tomorrow on, our new Special Force will handle those robots. Although I have a bad feeling about that..."

RULES:

Spoiler for Hidden:
1. Sign up by posting in this topic.
2. Each Day Phase will last 48 hours, each Night Phase 24 hours.
3. Players are allowed to post during the Night Phase.
4. Every night, players may only use one of their active (aka non-passive) abilities by sending them to the host, unless stated otherwise.
5. You can target yourself with your abilities, unless stated otherwise.

6. Players must not post, chat, or PM anything related to this mafia if they have been killed, removed, or withdrawn from this mafia, with the exception of a minor 'death' post containing no game information, upon their death.
7. All player roles, targeting, and actions are to be messaged during the Night Phase, unless stated otherwise.
8. Voting for "No Lynch" is allowed. Players are free to vote for that or not to vote at all, however, they must post at least once in this mafia topic every other Day/Night cycle. If they don't, they will be killed by the host.
9. Trying to intentionally harm your own faction is not allowed.
10. You must not quote any PM.
11. All mafia discussion has to occur either in this topic or via PM. The mafia will be allowed to talk in a titanpad created by the host.
12. Players are not allowed to edit and/or remove posts. Instead, EBWOP (meaning: edit by way of post) will be in effect. This means, instead of editing or deleting posts, players may post it again with any necessary changes.
13. Flaming, trolling, and generally bad behaviour is not allowed. This includes abbreviations and other indications.
14. Your actions should be primarily motivated by this mafia and not on previous mafias or other interactions. Using behaviours from previous mafias as a scumtell is encouraged, but revenge and grudge kills for events in past mafias and other events are not allowed.
15. The host reserves himself the right to adjust the rules even after the game started, in order to break huge loopholes or overpowered combos. However, this measure will only be taken if absolutely necessary.
16. Breaking any rules is subject to punishment at the discretion of the Forum Game Organizer and the host, potentially including removal from this mafia, banning from future mafias, or banning from other forum games.
17. The host and the Forum Game Organizer have the last word in any dispute. Do not argue or impersonate them in any way.


How to play Mafia:

Mafia is generally played between two teams: Civilians and Mafia. The civilians are the main group, and they enjoy the minor advantage of being a majority. Every day, the civilians post in the thread to discuss who is likely to be mafia, and place a vote on who they think is being scummy (a.k.a. mafia-like or anti-civilian). One thing to note is that your Voting Total signifies the total of votes placed on you, and Voting Power stands for how many votes you actually place on someone when you vote on them (everyone has a standard Voting Power of 1). At the end of the day the host tallies up all the votes and considers all skills affecting the voting; the person with the most votes on them is killed (termed as lynching), and all their info is revealed. Then Night falls...

That’s when the mafia come in. The Mafia are a minority of players who know each other’s identity. Their job is to eliminate all the other players using deception and nightkills. They interact with the town during the day, trying to mislead them away from lynching any mafia members. And when night falls, Mafia discusses in secret and chooses a person to kill (termed as nightkill). Civilian are also using their abilities during the night. Some of the noteworthy skills include the cop/seer, who investigate other players to find their allegiance, and the doctor who can protect a specific player from any nightkills for that night.



PRIMARY ROLES:

Civilians
Your main goal is to kill all criminals in the game. Although you have no nightkill, you outnumber them and can control the daily lynch.

Criminals
The "mafia" of the game. Your goal is to kill Civilians, until they are all dead or unable to fight back in any way. Every night, each Criminal can vote for a nightkill target by sending a PM to the host. The target with the most votes is killed (if tied, a random player from the tie is killed).

Note: Criminals won't know each other at the beginning of the game, with the exception of the Traitor Special Force players. To make up for that, they have two added abilities, one of which they may use in addition to another ability every Night Phase:
  • Search (ER): Target one player and learn their primary role. This ability is unaffected by any other ability.
  • Hasty Search (ER): Target two players and learn their primary roles. This ability can be investigated and blocked. Furthermore, if you target a Civilian with this, they will learn that "Hasty Search" was used on them - without learning your name.



TERTIARY ROLES:

Robot
Modern technology allows them to look and act exactly like humans, making it hard to track them.
Robot is a tertiary role that is randomly assigned, no matter of someone's faction. Some abilities have different effects if used on a robot. Robots do not have their own goal, and are normally fighting for their faction (Town or Mafia). For every 4 players, 1 robot will be in the game.

THE EVIL is the boss of the Criminal's faction.
The source of his powers is a secret, but they allow him comfortably to use the robots as his scapegoats.
  • Mass Control (EoR, 3U): For the following day, add the combined voting power of all robots to your voting power, and set all robot's voting powers to 0. Note that you still have to choose between using this ability and one of your secondary role.
  • THE EVIL cannot be a robot.



SECONDARY ROLES:

- Special Force -
The Senate once founded them to get rid of the robots, but they split apart after an unknown happening.

Loyal Special Force
Being left from their former partners, they woke up separately, hardly being able to remember anything... and unsure which side to help.
  • Revenge (Passive): If a Traitor Special Force is lynched while either you or your partner voted on them, you both gain +1 permanent voting power. If one dies when both of you voted on them, it will be +2.
  • There will be exactly two Loyal Special Force players, and neither of them will be a robot.
  • NEW: They are not scripted Civilians anymore, and will not learn each other's names as they could be part of different factions.

Traitor Special Force
Getting rid of their partner's spiels, they decided to take matters in their own hands.
  • Eliminate the Weak (Passive): If a Loyal Special Force is lynched while either you or your partner voted on them, you both gain +1 permanent voting power. If one dies when both of you voted on them, you both also gain -1 permanent voting total.
  • There will be exactly two Traitors of the Special Force, and both will be non-robotic Criminals. When the game begins, they will learn each other's names. (So, those two Mafia will know each other from the beginning.)


Officer
Even after they turned to the rebels, they haven't forgotten the value of the good old police work.
  • Observation (ER): Learn target player's secondary role.
  • Investigation (E3R): Learn target player's primary role. You must have observed them before.
  • The Officer will always be a Civilian.


Policeman
No one was sure if it was a good idea to trust the police.
  • Arrest (ER): Prevent your target from using any of his abilities for the current night as well as voting for the nightkill. You cannot target the same player twice in a row.


Judge
The masters of objectivity tried hard to continue their regular life, but went more and more nervous with making final judgments.
  • Civil Process (EoR): Target two players. You will be informed, if they have the same primary role or not. May not target self.
  • Judgment (3U): All modifications to voting power and voting total will not be in effect for the following day. At the beginning of that day, the usage of this ability will be made public.


Spy
They never had as many orders as these days.
  • Follow (ER): Learn who your target targetted this night.
  • Hide (ER): Learn who targetted your target this night.


Nurse
No matter how bad things may look, every Nurse has given her oath to protect the humans.
  • Heal (ER): Save target player from any death effects for the current night. No effect on robots. May not target self and cannot target the same player twice in a row.
  • Medicine (E3R): Target yourself with "Heal".
  • The Nurse will always be a Civilian.


Clairvoyant
Even after all those years, many people still believe in mysticism.
  • Forewarn (ER): Prevent the effect of all abilities (excluding Forewarn) to your target. Note that the nightkill does not count as an ability.
  • Bad feelings (Passive): Publicly reveal, if the daily vote was influenced by "Mass Control". Your name will not be told.


Mechanical Engineer
"I made their bodies. I made their upgrades. I made them living. And soon, I will kill them."
  • Upgrades (ER): Give target player +2 voting power for the next day, if it is a robot. May not target self.
  • Radar Systems (EoR): Install a radar on target player. If it is a robot, learn who they target and who targets them every night.
  • Nano Bombs (1U): Kill target player if it is a robot. If you target a human, your ability is refunded, but your secondary role is revealed to the public.
  • Sell (1U): Sell your equipment to target player, who will get all your abilities (Nano Bombs and Sell are not refunded if being used already). You are left as an Unemployed (Semi-Vanilla). [Higher priority than nightkill!]


Electrical Engineer
The more the chaos built up, the more these engineers took their working material to fight for their lives.
  • Electric Shock (ER): Target player has +2 voting total the following day if human, or +2 voting power if robot. May not target self.
  • Electric Overload (1U): Kill target player if human, or give +5 voting power if robot. If you kill a human using this ability, your secondary role is revealed to the public.


Scientist
Despite any research they made, they just couldn't find out why their robots were killing people.
  • Check (ER): Learn if target player is a robot.
  • Research (EoR): Target three players. You learn the cooldown types (ER, EoR, 1U, etc.) of all secondary abilities of all those players, but in a randomized order. You may not target yourself.


Journalist
Once for sure: They had more than enough to write about.
  • Propaganda (ER): Either increase or reduce your target's voting total by 2 for the following day. You cannot target the same player twice in a row.


Paranoiac
Living in entire fear completely broke some people, who are trying to protect themselves at any time.
  • Sleepless Night (EoR): Kill any player who targets you tonight. If you are about to get nightkilled, one Criminal who voted for you will also die. You can't vote the following day (making fake votes is not allowed).


Unemployed (Semi-Vanilla)
It was obvious that the home- and workless people would be first to use violence to save their lives.
  • Adrenaline (EoR): Increase your voting power by 1 for the following day.
  • NOTE: Will be the first role to be cut out, if possible. Mechanical Engineer's will receive this role after using "Sell".



ABILITY ORDER:

The Nightkill will interrupt all abilities except for Sell and the target of Heal/Medicine. No Nightkill will occur if no Criminal voted for a target or if all votes were negated by Arrest.
Follow and Hide will record all abilities, unless being blocked by Arrest or Forewarn.
Radar Systems will record every targeting ability, unless the use of Radar Systems is blocked by Arrest or Forewarn. Once installed, only Forewarn prevents it from working (and it will start working again the night after).

  • Arrest (unless target was Forewarned)
  • Sleepless Night begins tracking triggers
  • Forewarn
  • Heal/Medicine
  • Sleepless Night begins implementing triggers
  • Sell
  • (Hasty) Search
  • Nano Bombs/Electric Overload
  • Other abilities



Pre-FAQ:

  • Criminals are immune to Nightkills - if a Criminal is about to get nightkilled, no one dies instead.
  • The only permanent modifiers for voting power and voting total belong to the Special Force players, any other change only lasts the next Day phase.
  • If a member of the Special Force is observed by the Officer, the Officer will not learn whether they are loyal or traitors.
  • The lore does not include any real connections to alive players or roles.
  • Night 0 is like any other night in terms of game mechanics.
