1. Introduction

1.1 What is World of Elements?
World of Elements (WoE) is a large and complex forum event developed and organized by the Elements community. It is built around the graphics and concepts taken from Elements the game (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,84.0.html) but Elements developers are not directly associated with this event.

Elements the game and WoE are separate from each other. Cards you acquire in the game will not become available to your character in WoE, nor does what you do in WoE have any effect on your game account. Elements the game is merely used as a tool to fight duels in WoE, everything else happens inside these forums.

The basic idea of WoE is similar to Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG's). You create a character, an Elemental, which commands a small army, your cards. You move around a big map, doing quests, collecting resources and of course fighting players from other elements. You become stronger by gaining more reputation, skills, cards and electrum.

Just like with regular MMORPG's there are no schedules or specific times when you have to be active. You can participate in WoE completely at your own terms. If you need to take a break from gaming for a few weeks, just move your army to a nearby town where you are safe, and they will be waiting for you when you return.

World of Elements adapts to new changes in Elements the game. If a new card or feature is added into the game, it will also be added to WoE.

WoE has three major goals:
  • Fun
  • Strengthen the community
  • Provide Elements developers with new ideas on how to further develop Elements

1.2 Parts and Chapters
WoE is divided into different parts. Each part is its own event with its own quests and storyline. Think of them as a movie with sequels: story changes but the main characters are the same.

In WoE the main character is you. You will start each new part with the same character you used to finish the previous part. You also have the option to start a new character, but that means you will lose everything you have gained so far and will have to start again from level 1.

Parts are divided into six different chapters. Chapters are how WoE main storyline goes forward. When a new chapter begins, that usually means something big either has happened, or will happen very soon. Finishing storyline quests launches a new chapter.

2. Joining World of Elements

2.1 Who can Join WoE?
Any Elements community member who meets the following requirements can join WoE:

A) Elements game account
B) Elements forum account with at least 30 posts
C) Elements chat account

2.2 How Do I Join WoE?
First thing you do is choose an element. You can choose any of the 12 elements or Underworld.

To keep the event more balanced, some elements might get locked at some point. This means that if everyone wants to join a specific element while others are empty, that popular element will get locked and new players are cannot join them until the balance shifts.

Remember, joining a less popular element is a good strategy because:

A) With less players, you will get more round income because there are less people to share it with
B) With less players, you have a bigger chance to become one of the leaders of that element

Your chosen element will be your main element for the whole duration of WoE. You cannot change your element once you have chosen it, so please choose very carefully. It is a good idea to carefully study skill trees before making your decision. Although you can take skills from any of the 13 skill trees, you will probably take many skills from your chosen element.

2.3 Access to Secret Forums
Players from one element form a team. We have 13 secret sections, one for each team. Secret sections contain all the secret information like Character Sheets and general strategy planning. Knowingly revealing these secrets to anyone outside your team will get you instantly banned from WoE and all the other Elements community events, so please be very careful not to discuss these secrets in public. If you do it by mistake, you might get off with a warning, depending on how serious your leak was, and whether or not it was intentional.

2.4 Access to Character Sheet
When you join WoE, you will be given a link to your own personal Character Sheet which contains all the relevant information about your character in WoE.  A non-editable version of your character sheet will be embedded on the forums by WoE organizers. When you make changes to your character sheet, like removing or adding cards, the embedded version on the forums will be updated automatically, so that WoE organizers and your team members can easily follow your progress.

Players themselves make most of the changes to their Character Sheets, and are responsible for them being up-to-date. If there are any errors, especially ones that benefit you, it might lead to penalties. This is why it is very important to double-check all edits. But don’t be afraid, editing character sheet is very simple, and if you make a mistake, you can always revert it back to what it was before, or ask WoE organizers to help you.

We are not trying to scare you by saying that any little error will lead to you getting banned, but unfortunately the truth is that because many edits are done by players themselves, there is always potential for cheating. This is why we need to take a very strong stance, and remove all cowardly cheaters from ruining the event for others.

3. Character Sheet

3.1 Character Name and Title
Your Character Name should be identical to your forum name. In some rare cases, if your forum name is unfit for role-playing purposes, you might be given a permission to change your Character Name to something else. Ask organizers for more information.

Titles are earned during the event. For example if you get chosen to be the leader of your element, your title could become "King". Some quests might also give you titles.

3.2 Levels and Experience Points
Your character starts from level 1. You will gain levels by gaining Experience Points (XP). Experience Points can be obtained by doing quests and defeating other players in PvP battles. XP requirements are low at early levels, enabling you to gain those first few levels very fast. XP Requirements will slowly increase, and once you reach the higher levels, leveling up will take much longer.

*At level 1, you must take a Mark of your element and one Tier 1 skill of your element. Starting from level 2, you can take skills from any of the 13 skill trees.

3.3 Reputation
Each WoE player has a reputation which measures how respected and liked the player is among different elements.

Reputation is divided into 13 parts, one for each element, and one for Underworld. Reputation is a number between -100 and 100, and is stored in your Character Sheet. If you have a :fire reputation of 100, it means that all :fire NPC's love you and think you are a hero. If you have a :fire reputation of -100, they all hate you and wish you were dead.

The higher your reputation is, the more easier it is for you to deal with NPC's. If your reputation is too low, many NPC's refuse to deal with you and might even attack you. Some merchants have a minimum reputation requirement that you have to have in order to do business. If you don't have enough reputation of that specific element, you need to take your business elsewhere.

All quests give reputation. Smaller quests give +1 reputation, usually for the element that the particular quest belongs to. More difficult quests give more reputation. Quest can also give negative reputation for some other element. For example, if you are given a quest by a :darkness NPC's to assassinate a :light NPC, you will most likely gain :darkness reputation but lose :light reputation.

When you defeat a player from some other team in a battle, you will lose 1 Reputation of that element.

3.4 Items
WoE will have special items that players can use. They usually give some kind of buffs, or other benefits like help you move around the map.

Items are divided into 3 different levels. Level 1 items can be bought almost everywhere and they are very cheap. Level 2 items are much more expensive and more difficult to find. Level 3 items are very rare, and can only be obtained as quest rewards or by looting them from some other players.

Items are listed in the Character Sheet (#post_joining) of each player.

3.5 Skills
Skills are a big part of your characters development. You can use skills to build your character to fit your own playing style.

WoE has a total of 169 different skills, divided into 13 different skill trees. Skill trees are divided into 5 different Tiers. In order to gain access to a skill on a higher Tier, you need to first learn two specific skills at a lower Tier.

All skill trees are also divided into two different paths. Paths have very different skills, and concentrate on different things. For example, if you choose Underworld, you can pick between Assassin who focuses on PvP, or Smuggler who concentrates on money and trading illegal goods. Keep in mind that the middle skill of Tier 1 actually belongs to both paths, and is required for two Tier 2 skills.

You can also choose both paths, or any of the other 26 paths used in WoE. You have the power to build your character into whatever you like. Choosing skills in WoE is basically a choice between focusing on a couple of paths and gaining access to very powerful skills, or taking skills from multiple different skill trees, making your character well-rounded. The disadvantage of the latter is that while you may have many Tier 1 or Tier 2 skills, they are not as powerful as the Tier 3 and Tier 4 ones.

The number of skills you have, is determined by your Skill Points. Number of skill points is usually one point higher than your characters level, however some skills, items or quests might change this.

Skills are learned by spending skill points at a Trainer. Trainers can be found in all major cities and towns, and they usually specialize in the element of that city or town. If you want to learn something different, you might have to travel to other parts of the world to find a trainer that can teach it to you. Tier 4 skills (Champion) require you to finish a specific quest, and cannot be learned at a regular trainer.

Choose your skills carefully because there is no easy way to unlearn them.

3.6 Quests

TypeDescription
GlobalQuest that all elements try to finish. Gets activated by a specific event.
ConflictQuests that involve two opposing elements with two opposing goals. For example one element is trying to destroy something, while the other is trying to protect it. Quest gets activated by one of the elements taking the quest.
ElementalQuest that involves only one element. One player of that element can start this quest, after which the whole element can join in.
ChainA set of 3 single quests for each element, to be competed in a specific order. Final quest will give a relatively significant reward.
SingleThe most basic quest type. One quest, designed to be completed by one person. Modest reward.

4. Cards and Decks https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=17354.msg220855#msg220855

4. Cards and Decks

4.1 Cards
WoE uses all the cards found in Elements the Game. As new cards are introduced to Elements, they will be added to WoE as well. Most cards are used only during PvP battles, but some cards can be used for other things as well. For example, Catapult can be used during a siege to weaken City, Town or Fortress defenses.

One major difference with Elements and WoE is that in WoE you cannot upgrade cards. Each player is given a personal "Vault" of non-upgraded cards, also known as Starter Deck (#post_starter). During deckbuilding, players have the option to temporarily upgrade any of the cards they own. The number of upgraded cards they can use during a battle, depends on what skills they have and what battle stance the player and his or her opponent currently has. After a battle, all upgraded cards are returned to the Vault as non-upgraded.

4.2 Rare Cards
WoE uses a different set of rare cards as Elements, because otherwise crafting (#post_crafting) in WoE would make much less sense.

All the cards produced by crafting, with the exception of Pillars produced by Engineering, are rare in WoE. Rare cards also include Shards, Nymphs and Mark cards. You cannot buy any of these rare cards from a regular merchant.

4.3 Decks and Deckbuilding
WoE doesn't restrict deckbuilding the same way that some other events do. You can basically use whatever deck you can build, as long as these two requirements are met:
  • Your WoE character owns all those cards
  • You have the mark skill of the mark you are using
But even though you can build any kind of deck you want, building certain kind of deck gives you bonuses, while others give you penalties. Below are the bonuses you receive if you win a battle.

Deck bonuses and penalties for :aether :air :darkness :death :earth :entropy :fire :gravity :life :light :time :water
Mono-Deck of your element+1 Reputation (your element) and +1 XP/td]
Mono-Deck+1 Reputation (element of the mono-deck)
More than 50% of cards from your element. Any mark allowed.+1 XP
Less than 50% of cards from your element. Any mark allowed.-1 Reputation (your element)
Deck bonuses and penalties for :underworld
No more than 3 copies of cards from any element.+1 :underworld Reputation and +1 XP
No more than 6 copies of cards from any element.+1 XP
Mono-Deck+1 Reputation (element of the mono-deck) and -1 :underworld Reputation
If you lose a battle, you won't get any bonuses but you will suffer the penalties.

:water Player is fighting :fire Player. :water Player uses a mono-water deck and :fire Player uses a deck that has less than 50% cards from :fire.

If :water Player wins, he will gain (on top of the regular XP) a bonus of +1 :water reputation and +1 XP, while :fire Player gains no XP and suffers -1 :fire Reputation (for using a "wrong" kind of deck).

If :fire Player wins, he gets the regular XP and suffers -1 :fire Reputation (for using a "wrong" kind of deck). :water Player gains or suffers nothing.

4.4 Starter Deck
Each of the 13 teams has their own starter deck that have 60 preselected cards.

Starter decks were not designed to be great PvP decks, they only give players a solid base of cards to start with. If you are not happy with your card selection, you can always customize it by selling and buying cards at the merchant, or using the global auction.

4.5 Crafting
Crafting is when you use a specific crafting skill to combine two or more cards into one card, usually a rare one. Crafting is useful because it gives access to more powerful cards you can use to your advantage in PvP, or you can simply sell your newly crafted cards for profit.

There are 6 types of crafting in WoE. Each crafting skill enables you to craft one type of card.

Weaponsmith
Weaponsmith is a crafting skill of the :fire element. It means the ability to craft rare weapon cards by combining an 'other' weapon, alchemy card and a spell. Keep in mind that alchemy cards are also rare, and cannot be bought from a regular merchant. To get alchemy cards, you need to use Alchemy crafting skill.

Armorsmith
Armorsmith is a crafting skill of the :earth element. It means the ability to craft rare shield cards by combining a Relic and two non-rare cards.

Breeding
Breeding is a crafting skill of the :life element. It means the ability to craft rare creature cards by combining two non-rare cards from different elements.

Alchemy
Alchemy is a crafting skill of the :water element. It means the ability to craft alchemy cards by combining an Empty Vial and two non-rare cards.

Engineering
Engineering is a crafting skill of the :gravity element. It means the ability to convert a Relic to any Pillar.

Tinkering

5. Map
WoE world map has a total of 160 hexagons (16 x 10). Each hexagon has a specific type of terrain. Hexagons can also contain Cities, Towns, or Special Resources like Wonders.

The map below is what we are currently using in alpha.

Open Map in Full Screen (https://docs.google.com/present/view?id=dfwpg9vh_10fsvh8p83&interval=60&loop=false)

5.1 Terrains
Each hex on the map has a specific type of terrain. WoE uses the following types of terrain:

Plains
Forest
Dead Forest
River
Lake
Desert
Crater
Rocks
Hills
Mountains
Impassable Mountains
Volcano

5.2 Cities and Towns
There are 13 capital cities, one for each element, and one for Underworld. There are also 26 towns. Towns produce less resources and have less NPC’s compared to cities.

Cities and town produce certain amount of resources that will be divided between all the players of the element controlling them.

You can attack a city or a town of an element you are at war against. More information about attacking and defending cities, can be found in Siege (#post_siege) section.

5.3 Fast Travel
Moving around the map can be done simply by walking, one hexagon at a time. If you want to travel faster, you have the option to use fast travel.

Each element has their own special type of fast travel. For example :water has a Boat that can move long distances but takes a while to get there, and :light has a Stallion that moves much faster, but you can only travel short distances. In order to be able to use specific fast travel, you need to have a tier 1 skill that enables you to do so.

6. Round https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=17354.msg220857#msg220857

6. Round
Each WoE round lasts 2 days. Round is divided into two different phases: Action Phase and Update Phase, both lasting 1 day.

6.1 Action Phase
At the beginning of Action Phase, you are either:

A) Not locked in battle
B) Locked in battle

Not locked in battle is the default situation, which means that you did not get seeded with an opponent during the previous round. In other words, you did not attack, or was not attacked by, anyone. Players who are not locked in battle, may use their Action Points for moving around the map, attacking other players, trading cards, or performing other actions. If you do not perform an action during the Action Phase, your character does nothing. Even if you are not doing anything, you can still be attacked, so if you want to take a break from WoE, it's better to go to a city or town hex, where it is more safe.

Locked in battle means that you were seeded with an opponent during the previous round. When locked in battle, you do not spend any Action Points during that round. Instead your round consists solely of contacting your opponent and fighting a best-of-3 PvP battle using Elements the Game website (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,84.0.html).

You have a total of 2 days to make the fight happen (the total duration of the round). If you cannot make the fight happen, both players stay locked in battle and try again the next round. If the players have been locked in battle for 3 rounds, and the fight doesn't happen, both players are defeated. Only exception to this rule is a situation where one player was clearly more active in trying to find a suitable time for the battle to happen. If that was the case, WoE Organizers will give the win to the more active player.

6.2 Update Phase
Update Phase is a 1-2 hour phase between different rounds. During Update Phase, WoE Organizers move players around the map, arrange battles, etc. Players do nothing but wait during this phase.

7. Actions
During each round, players perform different kinds of Actions depending on their current location and available skills.

7.1 Action Points
Actions are performed by using Action Points (AP). By default, all players get to use 2 Action Points per round. Most types of actions only be used once during a round, but some of them can be used multiple times.

7.2 Types of Actions
Below are all the action you can perform. Some actions require a specific location or a skill, others you can perform anywhere.

7.3 Submitting Actions
Players submit actions using an Action Submitting Form. Link to that will be posted later when the event starts.

8. Battle https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=17354.msg220859#msg220859

8. Battle
Battles happen in WoE when two players, who occupy the same hex, have stances that activate a battle. When you are listed as Locked in Battle in a round topic, you will contact your opponent and fight a best-of-three battle. After the battle, you will gain bonuses or penalties based on what kind of deck you used, and whether or not you win or lost. Losers get sent to Spirit World where they have to wait for Resurrection.

8.1 Stances
Stances are used to determine who fights who, and how many bonus upgraded cards players can use. Some stances have a target (other player), others do not. If you want to change your stance, you need to use an Action (#post_actions). Non-default stance lasts only one round, after which it resets back to the default stance. You can have only one stance active at a time.

NameAPDescriptionUsageExample
Defend
-
Default stance. If you are not using a action to change your stance, it will always be using 'Defend' (unless you have a skill that changes your default stance). 'Defend' means that you are not actively looking for a fight, but will fight if attacked.-Round 1. Bill has the default stance of 'Defend'. Bill suspects someone will try to attack him this round, so he uses the action 'Fortify' and changes his battle stance to 'Fortify' for Round 1. However nobody attacks him, and when Round 2 starts, Bill once again has the default stance of 'Defend'.
Attack All
1
can be used to attack enemies on your current hex. It is useful in a situation where you want to attack anyone who might move to the same hex as you. Your opponent will be chosen randomly from all the available players you are not at Peace with.Attack AllBill finds a valuable resource in hex 38 and wants it all to himself. Bill uses 'Attack All' action. During that same round, John and Frank enter hex 38, both with 'Defend' stance. Bill gets randomly seeded against either John or Frank, and the two become locked in battle.
Attack *Element*
1
Attack Fire
Attack *Player*
1
Instead of being seeded against an opponent randomly, you can choose a target player and only be seeded against that player, while having 'Defend' stance against everyone else. If your target is not in the same hex as you after the movement phase, your attack fails.Attack JohnBill, John and Frank are all in the same hex. Bill wants to attack Frank, so he uses an action 'Attack Frank'. However during movement phase, Frank moves to a neighboring hex. Frank and Bill are no longer in the same hex during battle phase, so Bills attack fails. Bill should have used 'Charge' or 'Aggressive Charge' instead.
Charge *Player*
1
If your target is in an adjacent hex when the battle phase starts, you will automatically move to that same hex and lock your target in battle. If your target is in the same hex, 'Charge' acts like a regular attack. If your target is more than 1 hex away, 'Charge' fails, but you still move one hex towards your target.Charge BillBill and Frank are in the same hex. Bill wants to attack Frank but suspects he might try to flee. Bill uses 'Charge Frank'. During movement phase, Frank does indeed try to flee by moving to the next hex. Doesn't matter though because 'Charge Attack' causes Bill to move to that same hex automatically, and they get locked in battle.

To avoid battle, Frank could have done one of the following:
1. Moved to a City, Town or Fortress hex
2. Moved so that the distance of Bill and Frank would have been two or more hexes
3. Asked someone use 'Protect Frank' action
4. Use a Stone of Return
Aggressive Charge *Player*
2
Identical to regular 'Charge' but with two major differences:

1. Aggressive Charge costs 2 Action Points to use
2. You will move up to 2 hexes if needed
Aggressive Charge BillBill and Frank are in the same hex. Bill wants to attack Frank but suspects he might try to flee. Bill uses 'Aggressive Charge Frank'. During movement phase, Frank does indeed try to flee by moving two hexes away from Bill. Doesn't matter though because 'Charge Attack' causes Bill to move to that same hex automatically, and they get locked in battle.

To avoid battle, Frank could have done one of the following:
1. Moved to a City, Town or Fortress hex
2. Moved so that the distance of Bill and Frank would have been three or more hexes
3. Asked someone use 'Protect Frank' action
4. Use a Stone of Return
Fortify
1
Preparing for battle by quickly improving your defenses. If 'Attacked' while 'Fortified', you will be able to use up to 3 additional upgraded cards. If 'Charged' or 'Aggressive Charged', you will be able to use up to 6 additional upgraded cards.FortifyBill has the default stance of 'Defend'. Bill suspects someone will try to attack him this round, so he uses the action 'Fortify' and changes his battle stance to 'Fortify'. Frank 'Charges' Bill, which was a mistake because Bill was prepared for it, and can now use 6 additional upgraded cards.
Protect *Player*
1
Protect an ally from attacks. If the ally you are 'Protecting' gets attacked, you will take his or her place in the battlefield. If the ally has any other stance besides 'Defend' or 'Fortify', your 'Protect' is canceled and you will revert back to your default stance.Protect FrankBill, John and Frank are all in the same hex. John suspects that Bill wants to attack Johns ally, Frank. John uses an action 'Protect Frank'.

John was right, Bill wants to attack Frank and uses 'Attack Frank'. Normally Bill and Frank would be locked in battle, but since John is using 'Protect Frank', he will take Franks place in the battlefield. Bill and John get locked in battle, and Frank lives to see another day.

8.2 Locked in Battle
Locked in battle happens between two players when one (or both) use 'Patrol', 'Attack' or 'Charge' and the other one is in range. When two players are locked in battle, they do not start the round by spending Action Points. Instead they contact their opponent and fight a best-of-three PvP battle using Elements the Game website (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,84.0.html).

Round topics list all the players who are locked in battle during that round. If your name is on the list, you have to fight.

If the battle does not happen during the first round (for example players cannot find a suitable time for it), you will stay "locked in battle" for a second round. If the fight doesn't happen during that round either, then a win is assigned by the organizers to the more active player.
Round 1. Bill and Frank are locked in battle. Unfortunately they cannot find a time when both would be online, so the fight does not happen. They stay locked in battle for a second round.

Round 2. Bill and Frank manage to fight their battle. Bill won. Frank gets send Spirit World, while Bill gets to use 2 Action Points right after his PvP win, during this same round. Had the two fought their battle during round 1, Bill would only be able to use 1 Action Point.

8.3 Contacting Your Opponent
Players are responsible for contacting their opponents and making the fight happen.

IMPORTANT: If you have a skill that somehow affects the deckbuilding of your opponent, you are responsible for letting your opponent know about this at least 12 hours in advance. If you do not inform your opponent about your skills in time, those skills will not be included in that battle.
Bill and Frank are locked in battle. Bill PM's Frank the following message:
Quote
Hi, Frank.

We are locked in battle in WoE. I am available for battle tomorrow (Thursday) from 12GMT to 18GMT, and on Friday from 16GMT to 21GMT. Do any of these times suit you?

I have the following skills:
:entropy Diversion (Nova)
:entropy Nihilism

Looking forward to our epic battle.

-Bill
Frank then responds with a similar PM, and when they find a suitable time, the battle will happen.

If Bill hadn't mention that he has Nihilism until the last minute before the fight, Frank wouldn't have had to follow the "can only use up to 4 copies of any one card" rule.[/color]

8.4 Deckbuilding
In WoE you can basically use whatever deck you want, as long as these two requirements are met:
  • Your WoE character owns all the cards in your deck
  • You have the mark skill of the mark you are using
In other words, you can only use the cards your character has, and you can only use a mark your character has. Keep in mind that you also need to have these cards in your game account. If your WoE character has some rare cards that you'd like to use, you cannot use them if you don't have them on your game account as well.

Even though you can build any kind of deck you want, building certain kind of deck gives you bonuses, while others give you penalties. Read more about that in After a Battle.

Unless you have a skill or item that allows it, you cannot make any changes to your deck or mark during the battle.

8.5 Battle Starts

8.6 Battle Result Topic
Winner starts a new topic in the "Battle Results" section. That topic includes the deck used and a short description of the battle. Winner can also salvage up to 6 cards from the losing deck.

Loser posts his or her deck on the "Battle Results" topic started by the winner. Loser has to discard 12 cards from his or her deck, and wait for resurrection.

8.7 Experience and Reputation Gains a Losses
When you win or lose a PvP battle, your Experience and Reputation changes. There are three deciding factors:
  • Did you win or lose
  • Who did you fight against
  • What type of deck did you use
First two are called Basic XP and Reputation Change and the last one is Bonus XP and Reputation Change. Your total XP and Reputation gains (or losses) after a battle, are a combination of these two.

8.8 Resurrection
If you are defeated in battle, your character ascends to Spirit World. After 1 full round of waiting, your character will resurrect at the Capital City of your element, unless that city is either under siege or conquered, in which case you resurrect at a random Town of your element. If there are no ally Cities or Tows on the map, or all of them are under siege, you will stay in Spirit World until the situation changes. If you stay in Spirit World for 3 rounds, you will get resurrected in a random location.

8.9 Example of a Battle
Round 1.
Bill and Frank are in the same hex. Bill uses the action 'Attack Frank'. Frank does nothing. Because one is attacking and the other one is defending (default stance) Bill and Frank become locked in battle.

Round 2.
Bill and Frank see from the round topic that they have been locked in battle. They do not spend any Action Points during this round. Bill contacts Frank using a PM, and the two decide to fight at noon (GMT). They both show up in Elements Chat and fight. Bill wins the battle and starts a new topic about it. Both players post their decks in that topic. Bill secretly salvages 6 cards, any cards, from the deck that Frank used. Frank secretly discards 12 cards, any cards, from the deck he used.

Round 3.
Frank lost the battle so he has to spend 1 round in Spirit World doing nothing. Bill was the winner, so he continues posting his actions as usual.

8.9 Siege
Siege can be used to take control of a city or a town. Each city and town has two lines of defense.

1. Wall
Walls protect a city or town from attackers. Walls have hit points (HP). Towns have a Wall with 50HP, and cities have a Wall with 100HP. Hit points can be restored by repairing the wall. This can be done by either a player with the :gravity skill Repair, or by hiring NPC’s to do all the work.

Attackers can reduce Wall HP by using the Siege action. Having Siege Weapons helps to take down a wall much faster. When the HP of a Wall goes to zero, wall is destroyed and attackers can enter the city or town.

2. Player Defenders and NPC Garrison
After attackers enter a city or town, they have to defeat all the defending players and NPC garrison.

Player defenders are players located in that hex, who get matched up randomly with attackers. If the number of attackers is larger than the number of defending players, the remaining attackers will get matched up with NPC garrison. Remember, if a city or town is under siege or under attack, players cannot resurrect there.

NPC garrison is a number of cards that the defending players can use for build decks as their final line of defense, without having to have their character in that hex. NPC garrisons have different levels. All towns start with a level 1 garrison, and all cities start with a level 3 garrison. The level of garrison determines how strong they are, in other words, how many cards and decks are defending. Garrisons can be upgraded by the King of an element, although it will not be cheap.

Level 1 - 60 upped cards
Level 2 - 90 upped cards
Level 3 - 120 upped cards
Level 4 - 150 upped cards
Level 5 - 180 upped cards
Level 6 - 240 upped cards

Once all the defending players have been defeated, and the NPC garrison has less than 30 cards, the attackers can either claim control of the city and start rebuilding the defenses, or burn it to the ground and gain a fixed amount of resources in the process. If they do the latter, the city or town is permanently removed from the map.

9. Trading

9.1 Merchants
Cities and towns have Merchants who buy and sell cards and items. To trade with a merchant, you must be in that same hex, unless you have the :underworld skill Improved Trading, in which case you can trade with any Merchant that is no further than 3 hexes from your current location. What Merchants have for sale, depends on the location, and how much reputation you have. If you are not well-liked in those parts, you might not be able to buy all the cards and items available.

9.2 Player-To-Player Trading
Trading *Name* action enables you to trade with another player directly, as long as you are both in the same hex, and the other player is using the same action. :underworld skill Improved Trading enables Player-to-Player trading from a distance of 3 hexes from your location.

9.3 Global Auction
One of the most important ways to do trading in WoE is the Global Auction. It's basically one topic where any WoE player can sell their cards and items to the highest bidder.

Facts about Global Auction:
- each player can have only one auction topic active at a time
- Anyone can make bids on the items, from anywhere on the map, at any time
- auction lasts 4 days, after which the highest bidder gets the item
- You have to sell to the highest bidder even if you do not want to
- You have to pay an auction fee of 10% from all sales
- You can claim your purchases only in a city or a town (with :underworld Improved Trading, from 3 hexes away)

10. Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic Relations determine how players and NPC's from different elements act towards each other. Below are the Diplomatic Relations chart we are currently using in Alpha.

10.1 War
War starts when the leader of an element declares war against some other element.

Facts about War:
- Auction actions and Player-to-Player trading is not possible between players who are at war.
- You cannot enter a city or town controlled by someone you are at war with
- Two leaders can choose to end war, changing the diplomatic relation to Suspicious.
- You are always at war with your opposing element.

10.2 Suspicious
Elements that are suspicious towards each other, are not really at war, but don't trust each other either, so conflicts happen easily. Players who are suspicious towards each other and use the 'Attack' stance in the same hex, may have to fight each other. This is the default diplomatic relation.

10.3 Peace
Two leaders can declare peace, if the following minimum requirements are met:

1. Players from the elements in question have not fought each other for at least 12 rounds
2. ***

Facts about peace:
- You cannot attack a city, town or fortress without first canceling the peace.

10.4 Alliance
After 24 rounds of Peace, elements can declare an Alliance.

Facts about alliance:
- One alliance may have up to 3 elements.
- You are unable to attack the players, cities, towns or fortresses
