I'll happily volunteer to write a beginner's manual. Once we've gotten Alpha out of the way and hammered out the rules, it should be more obvious which bits need clarifying.
I think that instead of writing a separate beginner's manual, we should focus on making the full rules as compact and as easy-to-understand as possible.

Problem with beginner's rules is that all the low attention span players read only that, and then start bombarding the forums with all kinds of questions for which the answer could be found in the full rules.

My opinions is that if a player doesn't have the patience to read all the rules, or doesn't have the below average intelligence needed to understand them, it's probably best if the player in question doesn't join WoE at all.

We could of course have some kind of "cheat sheet" with all the main things in a very short form and links to more advanced stuff.

I understaand your argument ScaredGirl, but in the late time I have looked in the WoE sektion, to understand what it is, and maybe how to join. But aktually I can not find it.
So maybe someone could write a intruduktion, with links to all the important (most read) thred (I still do not know how to be a part of it, after reading several threds)
I think it should begin with what it is, and who could be interested in it. and then following a guide to what to do. (I know what WoE is (World of Elements) beacurse I find a thred called "What is World of Elements?" in WoE Archive which I read. But I do not think that is the rigth place to an introduktion.
My last word will be: I wrote this becourse I do not know how to join, please inform me

The problem right now is that WoE section is still under development, and most of the topics you see there are outdated and contain wrong information. This is the most current topic regarding the rules: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/topic,17354.0.html . Information you find elsewhere may or may not be correct.

Once we launch WoE, we will get rid of all that other crap, so the section will be nice and clean, and everyone will have easy access to all the information.

Not that that isn't relevant information, but I think his post was because he didn't realize that it hadn't started yet. I could be mistaken though.

Does WoE already have a beta test date? When is the final map gonna come out? Are some ideas already set in stone(for beta)?

A tentative schedule would clear some confusion among newbies and even among veterans who don't have the time to read all the mass of ideas.

We are slowly starting alpha which will take a couple of weeks. Then beta which will take maybe 3-4 weeks, difficult to say. All I can say is for certain is that WoE will be launched when it's ready.

Posting schedules and explanations takes a lot more time than you would think. I have personally spent about 20 hours explaining things. If I could do it all over again, I would take 95% of that time I spent explaining, and spend it on actually doing things. That way WoE would have probably been launched already. :)

This will be a compilation of every aspect explained in the WoE board through pictures and captions. It's a work in progress, but by the time it's finished, even a preschooler would get it. :D

To start:

Attacking other players.

The person with a "1" on his face is Player #1
The person with a "2" on his face is Player #2
The person with a "3" on his face is Player #3

Player 1 wants to attack player number 2, he takes the "Aggressive attack" stance and prepares for attack:

player 1 and 2 battle and post the results in the respective topic.

Now, If player 1 wanted to attack player 3, then that wouldn't be possible. He would have to use an action point to move from Hex 001 to Hex 004, where player 3 currently resides.

Once both players are in the same hex they can attack one another, like players 1 and 2 are both in hex 001.

To be continued.....

More visual aid is a great idea. Although we might have to hire a new artist :)

I just noticed the rule stating that "You are always at war with your opposing element."
So, does this mean that if I want to learn a skill of my opposing element, I have to either:
  • learn the darkness's skill Disguise and sneak into their city to stalk their trainer
  • conquer the opposing element's town (hoping that the trainer there will be willing to train me if I ask him nicely with my sword pointing at his throat)
  • perform some strange quest for some strange hermit who knows the skill but doesn't live in opposing element's town (if Quest organizers agree)
?

And by the way, will it be even possible to become a champion of two opposing elements? Let's say I'm a champion of Time with 24 lvl (argh... I hate level caps) and 28 skill points (thanks to Scholar skill). Can I also be a champion of Aether or even a champion of any other element?
With a level cap of 24 it would be impossible without the Scholar skill, and I guess it would take a few ages anyway to achieve that, but I'm just wondering if it is a path worth pursuing.
May the force of the D4HK side be with U ^_^
