Economics:
Trading cards and building decks

This is a very important part of this event, and we still have to decide how to do this.

I suggested at some point that all elements would start with mono-decks of their element, and to gain access to cards from other elements, they would have to travel to the area of that element, or trade with them somehow.

This kind of arrangement would make sense logically speaking but it wasn't a very popular suggestion at the time because I guess people want more options right from the start.

Post your ideas here, please.

How about the following:

At the start you get 40 cards, 30 from a predesigned mono deck for your element, and 10 you can chose yourself.
You can trade you cards with other people from your team unlimited, as long as you and the person you are trading with are in the you own area.
To trade with other people, you have to be at the same hexagon.

Cards can be bought at cities, but only from the element where you are.
The other cities all offer 3 different colours, and the other cards.

This way you have to actively travel around the map to get all the cards you want.

When doing so, I think we might need an organiser with as only task to look if everybody does so. Maybe we can call him the retailer.
I would be happy to apply for the job, if needed.

Why not just eliminate trading all together and just salvage like two cards from a defeated opponent.  The loser will not lose any cards, to prevent having under the minimum needed, but it does reward dueling quite well.

Plus, why trade and be nice to other elements when you can just beat them down?   8)

how about unlimited trading between alliances too?

i think this would somewhat dictate alliances more..

also, i vote you get to make 2 30-card mono decks at the beginning, but cannot use more than 6 of each card (except pillars of course)

I believe that the Dictator's idea sounds the best.
I would be quite interested in taking part if his idea is used.

I like that 30 + 10 starting deck. We might use that.

As for trading, I think they should be done in:

A) Cities
B) Towns
C) 2+ players in one hexagon

Not sure what you mean by that "own area" there, but I don't think trading with someone who is miles away should be possible. Although this is a game, we should try to make it as realistic as possible.

Well, some people like things like trading and diplomacy because it brings some depth to the event. Nobody is forced to do those things of course. You can just fight if you want.

what does that mean?

What about having shops in the cities?  We could even have shop keepers and you could post your purchases on the forums.

Yes, we will have shops.

Each shop will have it's own forum topic with all the stuff for sale. It will be run by NPC's at first, but maybe at some point someone wants to become a shop keeper.

On top of that we will have some kind of a simple auction system where regular players can sell/buy cards, etc.

Naturally, there should be in-game tourneys for rares. Or you could do, besides the salvage-a-card idea, you could bet your card(s) against Opponent's card(s) in, say, a friendly duel. That way you don't take cards he/she needs, but still can have friendly competition within an alliance/element.

I was thinking about having an Arena in Outlaw City where you would have these mini-tournaments. And like you said people would bet something. I was thinking cash, but cards might work too.

The own area I meant was the area of that element. For example, life player can always trade, as long as they are both in the life area. (for other we would have to think of something else).
Because in your elements area you will have control, so you can always send a courier to someone else. (maybe make it take one turn or something, when trading this way).

This idea is to make trading between your teammates easier.
