Deck Layout

Spoiler for ReadMe:
Introduction
This thread is where we suggest, tweak and prepare decks for our vault. By the end of the vault-building phase, we should have a diverse selection of decks, including at least two which we would be happy... no, excited to throw against each opponent.

Building From Scratch?
Water has become very predictable. We had an almost identical vault the last two wars, give or take a few SoP. Included in the 2nd post is our decks from last war, some we should use, some we should not. A big mistake we made was simply building a selection of decks, without thinking through what we wanted to play against each opponent, and why.

Market Prices
Another error we made was trying to do things too cheap. I'd rather have 12 optimized decks than 15 budget decks. We can worry about tweaking for the market and cutting some decks when we have finished building, so long as we get to work soon. It may also be worth buying a bundle of very cheap cards once we have finished building, as in-vault discard fodder with the new rules.

Decks By Opponent

This will be kept up to date with our discussion about our most viable options against each opponent and why. Some may (and should!) overlap. I have thrown a few ideas on here just to start discussion. Most (if not all) could do with tweaking or replacing.

What Went Wrong? War 9's Vault:

Decks including cost in current market, and notes on what I think of them, colour coded for 'Might work' and 'drown unmercilessly'.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Spoiler for Grabbow:

Gone up by 400 cost since last war. Can no longer run mercenary version. Possibly better options out there for lower cost.
Grabbow is always good.

Spoiler for Nymphcord:

Janky Trio. I think PatientDevs+Trident is faster and generally better, plus harder to shutdown. Also, what is it doing with only 4 NT? If we want to keep it needs rebuilding for better reliability.

Spoiler for Patient Wardens:

Should be a staple deck of ours, but NEEDS TRIDENTS. If we want a cheaper version we could run without gemfinders, but the added speed of gems is brilliant and i'd rather not. Has increased in price by over 500. Wut.

Spoiler for Steamie Domin:

A staple deck, imo could do with some tweaking, but seems fairly cheap (despite going up by almost 400... i think i sense a theme here).
I'm happy to cull it if we run out of space, hardly our most surprising deck

Spoiler for Air Stall:

Expensive. Gone up by 700. I feel like with all of the SoP decks we could run, people will be stallbreaking us. If we run this type of deck I'd suggest slimming it a bit, or running a Wings Domin instead.

Spoiler for Druid Fish:

Suprisingly cheap and unexpected.
doesn't help our 50% in vault restriction. Who would we actually want to use this against bearing in mind what they like to throw against us? Sure, it's unexpected, but if it is countered by the same things that usually counter us then what's the point. Needs thinking about, probably chuck.

Spoiler for Black Wave:
There's a lot of concept behind this. I don't think I've ever seen a dark stall in war (except syphonary, but that's a light stall). I wanted to make a deck like this last war in time, but since Time has no permanent removal it didn't feel too good. The problem with Water Stalls is that you can't use bolts without being unable to kill by something that's not deckout. Here's SoV. Desic gives faster quanta, for bigger bolts earlier. Vagger and Drain Life give some much needed healing, which water can only access in the very inefficient Purify. Problem is the deck is a bit fat and has little quanta so it may start really slow.

I'll comment on the decks when I get home from work, but thought I'd say that tinkerer rules have changed, must be 50% in element, only PENDS count as in element

So I guess I should dump down all the decks I saved down
I like the concept of this, but I'm just trying to think of when we would use it over a more standard wings stall (or a Blue Nymph deck with wings) After playing a few games it can work nicely but feels very inconsistent. I could be missing soumethign though so please let me know if there is a specific matchup where we would want wings with web :)
Spoiler for Wings Trio:

Quite like the flies to fuel reflective, but it depends if we have space to support them in the vault. If there is space then something like this or a SkyBlitz, Dragons, flies and reflective deck could be a nice counter deck for later in war. Alternatively we could build a wtfpatience rush with damsels, flies and SoP

If we have space for lightstall and this, i'd be really happy. I like it a lot. My only concern is pufferfish, because only having a few creatures sort of dilutes the intention of the deck, and gives them easy focus. If we have to choose one i'd go with light stall because Sanc/dial/miracle

I played around with making a legal version of this deck, but i always find myself thinking Swallow would be better because of SoFo and not having to waste card slots on SoR. I also struggled to make it work with the new tinkerer rules

Comments:

Spoiler for Devourer Poseidon:
I like me some denial, and it seems stable enough.
Spoiler for Tinkerer Bonebolt:
I'm not sure 4 bolts and 3 dessis are enough to make the deck work. 4 Bonewalls could be enough, but adding any more cards would dilute damage too much. If we take this, we shouldn't take this as a first choice but as a counterdeck.
Spoiler for General Void:
When we played a similar deck in time last war, we had both hourglasses and sundials to speed up draw enough to make sure the chain didn't fall and we drew enough voids. A single light pillar may not be enough to ensure stability, but if you say it works well enough even through this, I'm fine w/ it.

Spoiler for Grabbow:
I grew to feel like Water Grabbow was kind of underwhelming and that mono-water was a better choice for a kind of rushy deck. I mean it's still a grabbow so it's good but it costs just so fucking much. Novas are legit for other surprise decks, tho.
Spoiler for Nymphcord:
Too many memories about this to properly judge it. I'd up the gravity pillars/pends and use toadies instead of crawlers for better eq protection/faster SoFos. The deck really needs a cont. stream of gravity quanta to work. Also there's no need for that many water pends.
Spoiler for Patient Wardens:
I love the idea behind the combo, but I've never managed to find one that felt fully satisfying
Spoiler for Fire Domin:
Very gimmicky and very counterable. Perhaps later in war.
Spoiler for AirStall:
I tend to not trust stalls with no healing and low damage. Will likely lose to any fractal deck with a creature that bypasses wings and is harder to remove than a Firefly.
Spoiler for LightStall:
Again, too little damage. The healing is good tho. I just prefer aggressively stalling.
Spoiler for Serpentine:
Looks like a deck. 6 basilisk bloods shouldn't strain the vault too much either. I can't see what it would beat that monowater with freezes woudln't.
Spoiler for Druid Fish:
Eh. Adrenaline Puffer is a slow combo. Adrenaline staves are nice. It's a big investment. If we really have a lot of margin in vault...
Spoiler for Patient Vamps:
Big eh. It feels very easy to counter. Kinda looks like any other sop deck, as vampires will only be healing after the sopping's over.
Spoiler for Speed Poison:
Needed. It's an easy deck to test for/counter and they may very well dilute their decks (i.e. novabows) adding in purifies. The scare of it is often enough. I also like it with bonewalls to halt big hitters. It being easy to counter is problematic at times.
Spoiler for Toadmare:
I absolutely love this deck idea and will defend the idea to bring it no matter what
Spoiler for Air Domin:
When I built this back in war #3/#4 it had fogs instead of ice shields for a reason. Cheap to drop, and don't delay damage.

I like almost all of those points.
Bonebolt's idea was similar to Bonestorm (4 Tstorm 4 shockwaves). It actually plays ok, just need to wait that little bit longer before starting the stall. Could definitely be optimized though, and i don't mind chucking it, although we should deffo use bonewall in some way.

I kind of agree that water has never really built a world class grabbow, I'm happy to scrap in favor of a different Nova tactic, or none at all.

Never managed to make nymphcord work like I want it to. this is why you're here as a water vet, so please construct a nymphcord how you'd like it and we can do some testing. i love the idea in principal.

Patient Wardens is a beast of a deck. here is the build i would suggest, though using it with Lt. would be better for more gemfinders:

Agree scrap fire domin, Druidfish, Airstall (but i'd like a wings domin)

lightstall, gin and I were talking about the other day. Morning Glory and possibly Nymph queens, or upgrading two of the ice bolts allows for OTK, giving it a win con.

BB is double as effective as freeze even unupgraded which is what makes Serpentine so nice, but I do think we should include mono-water with earth mark in the vault.

Toadmare should stay if possible.

How about this for speed poison:

We really should include a Dims/Fractal deck too.

Rather than Fractal, I remember we had more success with a PU Dragon/Dim Deck.

yes, I'm happy with that instead. makes OTK easier.

Oh I did have an idea to mimic Darkness's Drainbolt, but the lack of extra healing from Vagger and Drain life is less that ideal, although weapon PC is nice.
It's crap really which is why i didn't share it earlier, but i might as well throw it in there in case i'm missing a reason why it would be good
