the reason ffq is not rare class is because it's a duo card. it costs air but it's ability costs life. pharaoh on the other hand creates creatures that have the swarm ability and devour and it's ability is the same element as itself. and i agree that squid should stay a rare. freeze is too valuable an effect to just hand out. additionally making it common would nearly make the card freeze redundant. little enough people use it to have another card to replace it even further.

If Otyugh were rare

Gravity would only have Gravity Pull as CC. This would be a decrease but still serviceable.
Otyugh is usable in small numbers so rarity would not restrict usage to only collectors.

In conclusion a rare Otyugh would act like a creature version of Owl's Eye (rare secondary CC on a stick)

The comparison is especially appropriate because both would have common duo clones. (Pharaoh, Warden)

i think the cost change and maybe making the squid have 0 attack would make it even better but a -1 cost to ability is still a good buff
The Devil what more is there to say.

I like this change. Artic squid was definitely underpowered.

I'd rather see some increase in HP through. How about giving it -1|+2? That way it surpasses the 3HP-breakpoint and becomes immune to shields; giving it some more durability.

I like this buff.

I was also thinking about another one that would make it just a little more efficient against CC.

What about freezing the creature that devoured it ??

This unique passive skill would also goes well with its rarity status.

what you mean like when you get brain-freeze after eating lots of ice cream ;)

but in all seriousness i really like and would support this idea. i like the squid being rare and this buff would be pretty beautiful. nice thinking mate.

A good card indeed. Honestly, when I get this card for the first time, what I think was "How is this supposed to be a rare card? It only gives you an ability to Freeze, and consumes  :water :water while with the card 'Freeze' which has the same effect only needs  :water .". And so then I removed it from my deck and play without it for several weeks. But one day, when I decided to change my mono-water deck to be a deck which focuses at Bolts, I removed all my Freeze cards and then I realized how important Arctic Squid is. Now I'm playing using it again, my lovely Gesomon/Octomon  8) .
My idealized elements cycle:
Water -> Fire -> Air -> Earth -> Lightning -> Metal -> Light -> Darkness -> Wood -> Water
