War: Underworld - Round 3 (final round!) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=15052.msg192231#msg192231

War: Underworld
Round 3
Round has ended

Final round of War: Underworld has started!

Round 2 was unfortunate because many duels didn't happen so I was forced to settle them with a dice. It sucks big time for players who both were active but just didn't have time to fight.

IMPORTANT!!!
Players who either start their round in the losers brackets, or who lose in the winners brackets, have to fight twice during this round. In other words, the first two "rounds" of losers brackets must be fought during this round.

This is why it's very important to fight your first duel as fast as possible so that you have time to do the second one as well.

Click the image to open it in a new window.

Winner of the duel must post the results here: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php/board,262.0.html . Start a new topic, post your deck and give a small play-by-play explanation on what happened.

8 players left standing after this round will form Team Underworld!

Good luck all!

I thought about that.  From the four people in our games, only two can make the team, and I would like all four of them to make it.  It would be ironic if you were the one to finish me off.

I still don't get how me being active getting my game done early waiting for my opponents to get done with there game, them getting the extension, them never getting it done, results in me being out of something as big as war.

I received a PM about this as well, so this post can be considered as a response to that PM.

Short version:
I had to pick a winner.

Long version:
At some point, if the fights don't happen, I have to pick a winner. We cannot just go on and on because the show must go on. Is it fair? Of course not, but there's really no other choice. Only question is how do I pick the winner?

You and your opponent both (kind of) lost one duel. You lost it the old-fashioned way, and he/she "lost" it by not making his/her happen. The way I look at things, you were equal. This is why I chose to use a randomizer to pick the winner. I saw it as the most "fair" solution because this way you both had a 50% chance and it was the Elemental Gods who decided the winner.

In your case, think about it like this: You got removed from War because:
A) You didn't get bid on during auction phase
B) You lost a duel during round 1 of War: Underworld
C) You got unlucky with the randomizer

Instead of taking this as the worst decision ever made in the history of forum events, you should remember that you at least had a chance. War: Underworld was not part of the original plan. According to original plan, you would have been eliminated a long time ago. You were given a second change, but unfortunately because of losing the first match, followed by bad luck, you got eliminated.

And consider this: had your opponent lost the draw, he/she would have been eliminated from War: Underworld without actually losing a single duel. Personally I think that would have been much more unfair than what happened now but that's debatable.

I have an idea. Because of the way you got pushed out of the event, I will appoint you as the 1st replacement player of Team Underworld. This means that if one of the 8 players fold, you will get in. How's that? Chances of it happening at some point are relatively high. I wouldn't be surprised if one of the 8 quit before Team Underworld even joined War because unavoidable real life stuff always happens.

I hope that he finds that acceptable. I'm sure he has no choice, since I'm 100% positive you won't budge on your coin flip.

But just remember there's a HUGE difference between, not playing a match and having no match to play.

At worst, you could have done the first coin flip and given Jaymanfu and xdawnbydeath a chance to play.

I know the game is part luck.. but that's like saying we should just flip a coin for the rest of the games in WAR.. just something to think about...

i told him what your response would be but i figured it cause no harm to try to present his case anyway and now he might still have a chance to participate if again, by luck someone were to drop out

so yeah, jay, people do care about you guys and want to see the best possible outcome from this and that includes you

He probably won't find it acceptable but that doesn't really matter because it had to be done, it's done, and now all we can do is move forward with the event.

I knew that by making this decision, someone would be pissed off. Unfortunately I didn't have the luxury of making everyone happy and getting Team Underworld ready in time for round 5. These tough decisions must be made sometimes to make sure that the event goes forward.

But just remember there's a HUGE difference between, not playing a match and having no match to play.
There's also a huge difference in not playing a match and losing a match. Jaymanfu lost one match already (0-2), xdawnbydeath haven't lost a match. Although both options suck, I feel more comfortable in removing someone who has lost already, then someone who hasn't lost at all.

At worst, you could have done the first coin flip and given Jaymanfu and xdawnbydeath a chance to play.
No time. Every second we would have waited for these two to play, would have been a second the rest of the event is basically put on hold because winner of that match would have had to fight two more times during this last round.

I think Jaymanfu was lucky to be honest. Not getting picked during auction, and with a 0-1 record in Underworld, he has a pretty good chance of getting into the War main event as a replacement. All it needs is one of the 8 players picked to fold which is pretty likely to happen at some point. That's a pretty good opportunity considering Jaymanfu was one small step away from getting permanently removed from War #2.

Next time we do this event, we will do things a bit differently to avoid this situation (I already know how). But for this event it's too late. Elemental Gods have spoken and it's time to move on.

I feel like you're putting in little jabs of me of how lucky I am tbh.... I guess what I don't get was how you went from saying this:

Try to make it happen by lying, cheating, stealing or by murder. If you are unable to, there is always a possibility of a 2nd time extension. I'd really like to get the real winners instead of using dice.

To the next day just doing the opposite.

Since I don't have a choice Ill take what I can get I guess and be a replacement.
