What if the Masters did it for their team mates?  Surely we can trust the Masters to play fairly.  But then again, you have to be careful of those darker more evil Elemental Masters.   ;)
If cheating were made that easy, even the most trustworthy players might cheat. I mean chances of getting caught would be zero.

And another big problem is when a team gets really lucky and get to keep all their best cards. Everyone would naturally assume they cheated even if they didn't.

Our goal is:
- as little work as possible for Warmaster (because he already has a lot of work)
- zero chance of cheating

I'll ask again, what is the problem with what I earlier suggested? If they players themselves pick the cards to discard, it adds a new strategic element instead of it being random. And they cannot keep same cards indefinitely because opponents will probably salvage them (also adds a new strategic element).

Ah yes, that would work well too as far as I'm concerned.

If I understand everything correctly, this is what the war would be like:

1.  All players matched.
2.  All players withdraw cards from vault to build decks in secret.
3.  Play best of 5 matches.
4.  Post decklists.
5.  Winners capture 6 cards of their choice.
6.  Losers choose 24 casualty to discard.
7.  All remaining cards go back into the vault.
8.  Repeat

What about sideboards was there a final decision?  I don't think it takes too long and it would make step 3 a lot more strategic.

I think giving the ability to change decks between matches is really needed, to make it more strategic, by a sideboard, of this way:

First you make a deck.
After the first fight, you get the option to change add up to 3 cards from your deck, you can take out as many as you want.
You repeat that, until you or your opponent has won
After that, the winner gets to chose 6 cards from all the cards his opponent used, so his original deck, and the up to 4*3 cards he used later
The lose has to discard 24 cards
The rest gets added to the vault.

This makes your original deck more important, as it is now, but you can still react on you opponents deck, by adding more pillars/control/creatures/etc.

There is something in favour of using a sideboard too: You can get a completly different deck the next turn, from mono to duo, or back, from a duo to another duo, etc.

Using sideboards would also solve another problem, the problem of the bigger decks, because you can give every player 45 cards which he can use to fight with.

so:
Sideboard= deck changing between matches
Only 3 cards = only acclimating on your opponent, which can help already a lot.

Yep, that's exactly how it goes.

We could do it like this:

- all players choose their "main army" which is a deck of 30-60 cards
- all players choose "reinforcements" which is um.. 6 or 12 cards?
- players can then use both "main army" and "reinforcements" to build decks

I don't know.. might make this already big event, even bigger, therefore complex.

That's a great idea and a great war analogy.  As far as 6 or 12, 12 would allow you to completely change your element and strategy.  6 would mean you keep the same deck overall but change your focus.  I'd be fine with either.  But 6 might be simpler.

Ok, I guess the "salvage 6, discard 24" rule seems reasonable and solves the problem. We could always ask killsdazombies what he thinks about it from the Warmasters point of view, but if the rules are changed that way I think time is no longer at a disadvantage, so I consider it "mission accomplished" ;)

As for the sideboard I think it complicates things too much. If everyone has to keep track of what cards he used from the sideboard, which one he didn't etc. so that opponent can choose 6 to salvage, then with a sideboard every deck would be considered >30 cards, so with every deck you'd have to post which cards you discard etc...
I simply think that it could end up too chaotic, especially with people who couldn't find time to battle each other, people who fought each other in phases (eg. 3 battles on one day and 2 battles the other day) etc.

Without sideboards it's simpler because everything about the decks is clear before the duel (because people have to post their decks) and if the duel does not happen, or happens but the person did not post the results etc. you still have enough information to proceed.

It's good for smaller events, but not for a war with dozens of players and little time to do everything.

Just IMHO though ;)

I don't think a sideboard makes it a lot more complex, to salvage and discard, because you could give before it starts all the cards you want 'access' too, instead of just the first (or only) deck, meaning you simply post say 40 cards instead of 30, and out of those you opponent can chose.

With the sideboard added:

1.  All players matched.
2.  All players withdraw a deck + sideboard from vault in secret.
3.  Play best of 5 matches.  Inbetween games you may exchange cards in your deck for cards in your sideboard.
4.  Post decklist + sideboard.
5.  Winners capture 6 cards of their choice.
6.  Losers choose 24 casualty to discard.
7.  All remaining cards go back into the vault.
8.  Repeat

Sideboard of 6 or 12?  6 should be fine I guess.  Also when exchanging cards it should be a 1 to 1 ratio, your deck would have to stay the same original size.  You can't only take cards out, or only add stuff in.  As long as people remember their vault selection and don't decide their entire collection is their sideboard we should be fine lol.

Reading Xinef's post I realized, what happens if for whatever reason a player misses a round and they never post a deck?  The other team gets the win yes but in this case if nothing was withdrawn from the vault in the first place which cards are salvaged and which are discarded?

If we go with sideboard thing, it's probably going to be like this:

1.  All players matched.
2.  All players withdraw a deck + sideboard (6 cards) from vault, and post it on the secret forum section.
3.  Play best of 5 matches.  During the first match you cannot use the sideboard. Inbetween games you may remove any number of cards from your deck and replace them with the ones on the sideboard. Deck size can change.
4.  Post decklist + sideboard in public "Battle Results" thread.
5.  Winners capture 6 cards of their choice (from both the "starter deck" and "sideboard").
6.  Losers choose 24 casualty to discard.
7.  All remaining cards go back into the vault.
8.  Repeat

why no mark cards? if we take marks in vault, they - i believe - could only be used 6 times, cause a non-element-card, and i think no team has more than 2 players with mark-cards in it, so it is also limited.
if they "confuse" people, we could do this as pr-campain, it will be good for tournaments, when more people know then you are able to win these pretty mark cards.
ok, you cant take as salvation (no, you CAN if you want), but i dont know someone with 3 or more mark cards, so this are 2 cards (i dont think many ppl have a use from salvating nymphs)
