War - Questions and Answers

War is a big event with tons of different rules and exceptions to those rules, so it's natural that people have a lot of questions. Problem is that those questions get easily buried under other stuff, and it might take days for you to get a response. To fix this problem, I started this topic which acts as a quick War help Desk.

If you have a question, any question, about the War event, please ask it here. We will try to answer all of them as soon as possible. Regular members can also answer questions, but please don't unless you are 100% certain about it. Later we will probably use this topic to make some kind of War FAQ compilation topic.

Remember, there are no dumb questions, only dumb people.

So.. what is your question?

In my battle with jmdt, during one of our R3 trials we had a desync at the second to last turn. Each player claimed they had won, jmdt had a screenshot of his win (but it was later found to have shown proof of desync), however I claimed to have a hand that would have won the next turn, giving reasonable doubt. ddevans96 called a rematch in the end, but for future reference, is there any formal way to deal with situations like these?

These situations are dealt with a case-by-case basis, and they usually lead to a rematch. Having screenshots and/or subjective observers might help to secure that win.

okay, now speaking of observers, there has been theories that heavy spectator traffic can cause a match to desync. Is this true?

I am curious about this as well.  Throughout heavily spectated matches, there were disconnections between players rarely known for causing such things.

To answer that question you're going to have to approach it scientifically. You'll need probably 10+ people, some of which that claim to rarely if ever have desync problems, and some that say desyncs aren't that uncommon. They would each have to play through probably five to ten matches against each other person... for each combination of browser and using both kongregate and the actual game page. That would take forever.

You could probably make it simpler, for instance requiring players to use the same browser as their opponent (cross browsers seem to be a problem) and using the actual game site. Those are both very minor and easy rules to follow. It would also mean that you'd just have to figure out which browser combination works best, instead of involving kongregate and cross browser matches (ie. player one uses chrome and player two uses firefox).

spectator mode should be made private where only certain people can watch
one way to do it is by having game ID and only those with game ID can spectate the game (game ID, randomly generatoed when game start will be made known to the players and they can inform whomever they want like say Warmasters/TO about it)
only zanz can fix this
frankly i hate spectator mode

It does seem to limit your ability to reuse a surprise deck in a tourney. For the war though, I don't really have a problem with it unless it causes desync issues.

I highly doubt spectate is the cause. The server just sends out a little bit of information to an outdated system, which sends nothing back.

I just meant in the case that it does. I don't think it's really the cause either.

didn't zanz make some sort of connections thingy? Maybe that should be a requirement before every match? Just use the little thingy and if it needs fixing i think zanz made a button you can push to fix it.
