Ok, an example then. If I have 4 amethyst pillars in my deck out of 4 that I have in the vault and my opponent chooses it, can I discard them from the deck to "evade" EC or am I forced to discard other cards along with my amethyst pillars from the vault (for a total of 15+4 discards)?

First, you will do normal discards. If you can discard 15 cards from the deck without those 4 pillars, then go ahead and discard those 4 amethyst as part of EC.

Just wanting further clarification about order of discard/salvage with the EC here - say we have 2 antlions in our vault and we lose a match and the winning team picks antlion as the EC card to discard. Then we win a match that has 4 antlions that we would like to keep.  Would we salvage 4 antlions (getting 6 in vault) and then discard 4? OR would we discard the 2 we have, and then get 4 from salvage? (i.e. How many antlions would be left in our vault - 2 or 4?)

Just a quick FYI, past Wars I recall had it SDCTP (salvage > discard > conversion (do not have conversion this War) > transmute > penalty).  You are indicating War 9 is DSTP - right?

Just to make it clear, all your discards by EC should be in private section now. You need to discard 4 copies, if possible, of each card. Under penalties, type in total number of cards and put card codes next to it. Example: If you have to discard 4 skeletons and 3 daggers, write 7 in penalties, and put in the card codes of those 7 cards in the Discard (code) column.

Will the discarded cards and/or numbers be made public?  i.e. will I be able to learn that aether discarded 4 daggers for losing to fire?  (or, say, 3 if they only had 3) Will it depend if our team was the one to choose the discard or not, i.e. will we know how many daggers my team made someone else discard, but not discards resulting from a match where my team played no part?  It will make a fairly big difference in planning either way.

No cards/numbers will be made public. However, they will be posted in the modifiers, with the transmutations and any other modifiers that happen, in R9 results thread.
Example: death discards 4 skeletons and did 2 transmutations. In results thread, there will be -6 in the modifiers column.
