Here is why i think they did a bad job:

  • You are letting the only active admin to participate in war. And you are not taking any precautions that could at best case lead to speculations. Bad planning.
  • You did not take precautions. So you trusted Higurashi. And now you don't trust her explanation. Hypocrites
  • You are overdoing the penalty just to satisfy the majority. Populists.

A retroactive penalty would be justified if the bug has existed for a long duration. How long has anyone on Team :aether known about this bug?

Since i am the general, what i say applies. Higurashi feels like she is not in a position to discuss about the amount of penalty. What do you expect her to say ? I am more neutral to the issue and i represent team aether.
dammt neutral? either you agree or disagree, you disagree can not be neutral

No, team aether is not agreeing with WMs since that is not what i call  "doing their job properly".

Here is what i think: As they grabbed us by the balls, they thought they could give any amount of penalty as they please till they are satisfied. So they decided this much was enough to make us weak enough to lose while not making team aether look like martyrs.

Here is how i feel: I have done nothing wrong and feel like i am being punished for nothing.

Well now you spoke as a general, was finding it strange his stance on this case.
the question is, how far aether team may have benefited from this "bug"

Especially since we don't even know what the bug is.   I'm assuming that there is a bug that allows either higs (as global mod) or somebody else to see Secret Sections.  Because it is possible that team chat links are placed in secret sections (or in gravity's sake, all of their information), a non team member could get access to a team chat.  Vault tools (probably a bigger problem) are also placed in secret sections.  However, I'm not sure exactly how this came to attention without Hig's revealing it herself, which I'm not sure how incriminating that actually is.

The evidence is a blend of
Google doc modification time stamps (explainable through pure coincidence)
User group permission toggling (explainable through SMF bugs & Higs being left responsible to rectify, tho timing of bugs & logging are confusing)
Topic access logging (explainable through someone else exploiting said SMF bug while Higs was rectifying the issue)

Haink was contacted early on wrt the matter

Also I may not've stated things purely accurately or completely, such as alternative explanations of the third point

SMF has been updated, so permission bugs are hopefully not going to reappear. Vaults are now authenticated, so knowing links is not sufficient for accessing vault

I can explain more about the bug and why my actions to fix it incriminated me. This permission bug has happened twice before that I can recall and was around for, but not during War times. What happens is that access to boards are seemingly randomly shuffled around without changes appearing in the logs. What I encountered when I came home from work was permissions being strewn about with several groups having access to places they should not have.

My first attempts to fix permissions by clearing them all did not work, so I had to reassign and remove each permission individually to the afflicted groups. This process included changing access to the team boards since some groups had access that shouldn't. While checking and unchecking boards, the forum would not assign or remove the corresponding permissions.

After a short while I managed to fix the bug, and I've taken measures after the incident as well, but the fact that I had to change board access is something a Warblind Admin shouldn't do if they can avoid it. As it was, I was the one that was around to notice the bug and had to take swift action to make sure permissions were corrected and no one had access to the Admin board for instance. I'm glad the WM's have pointed out how this incriminates me so that I can avoid it in the future: hiring Alan again is intended to fix this. Additionally the bug should not occur again after the forum update. So to answer Z, this was an Admin issue and not something a regular member can affect.

@ Higurashi - How long has Team :aether known of this bug?

I hope you are not doing this wording on purpose. Team aether has no relation or knowledge of this bug, i just learnt it at the same time with the WMs.

I personally respect the way the Warmasters and Higurashi have handled this situation, and I think I speak for all when I say I'm hopeful War will continue forward in a positive manner following this.

I'll point out that a voided match without penalty is a net positive since net vault size is always decaying. In Round 2 Aether was in third last. 108 is -9 per voided match. Arguably a truly "fair" change would be to give everyone -9 for each voided match, or -9 for every voided match beyond the first one (ie -9 to Time, & -99 to Aether). Thus one could argue Aether has only been penalized 9 cards, & Time given the benefit of RNG
