Meh, I feel like none of the bids except for 9 on a win really screams "I know you can do it!" and instead shows that you're attempting to cut losses at least somewhat if something doesn't go as planned. 3 cards on a loss at least guarantees you'll keep some of your more important cards in the event that something bad happens.

If cards weren't used for bidding (and bidding was done just for fun) it'd reflect a lot more on how the team and its General looks at its players and its element in general. I'd have a reason to worry about morale if that were to happen.

It's simple, really, you're supposed to bet on a loss if there's less than a 50% chance you'll win. As for morale, ask yourself this: how important is the skill of the player using the deck compared to the quality of the deck?

Well, if you think about it, betting on losses isn't that bad; if you win, you salvage 6 and discard 3,6 or 9 (making betting 3 or 6 to losing a fair choice if you wish to even the odds).
