WAR #6 - ROUND 8 Read the War Rules Contact Warmasters News: Lots of slaughter last round. Deckbuilding: Duel phase has started Teams have to build decks for all players who are fighting during this round. Decks are to be added to the Vault Google doc. Team Vault Manager works with the doc but all team members participate in the planning. Please do not post your decks in public or talk about them in chat. All decks must be made ready before the timer goes to zero, after which, editing decks is strictly forbidden. Failure to have all of the decks ready will lead to a severe card penalty and/or automatic losses. It is highly recommended that all team members double-check their decks before the duels start. Duels: Fighting ends! Duel phase starts when timer hits 3 days left.. PM your opponent and try to find a time that suits you both. Time Zone Converter might be useful here. If you cannot find a time when you are both are online, please contact Warmasters--Jenkar, Helston, and bjessee--immediately. If the match does not happen, you both lose by default unless one of you is clearly more active and/or flexible. Duels are "best-of-five", you must use the deck and mark built during the previous phase, and you cannot make any changes to your deck or mark during the round (except the Strategist as noted in the Rules). I can see why 2 Aether/Entropy fights, but I have something to protest for.

Let's think of the remaining Aether/Entropy battles as one big group.

We have 7 slots, six occupied by Aethtropy, one occupied by Time.

Time faces Aethtropy twice, makes sense, because it couldn't be anything else.

What's left are Two Air, Gravity, Water, Earth.

Air faces one Aethtropy and one Time.
The rest are randed in Aethtropy, that's how I think it should have gone.

Bye's are by nature not fair - that said giving a last place team a bye (as used to be the case) is even less fair.

The rules state the bye will go to the team playing the most matches - if more than 1 team would qualify ties are broken randomly, with the exception that team which have already received a bye won't get another one.

So while its tough to be in first place and have to play more matches in general than other teams - and to also face either a host of Generals, or possibly even worse a collection of Strategists, this rule is a means of balancing that disadvantage. So while I think that Aether certainly gains an advantage from it, I think its probably an advantage they pay for in other respects by being first. Once we knock them down a peg or four and you field as many decks as they do again, you'll get a bye instead of them.
