Here it is, an interview with bripod for Team Time and deuce22 for Team Aether. Sadly, Time's General was currently unavailable, but this still gives a nice look into both teams as we go into the final hours before the match!


War #5, the finals! Thought you were gonna make it this far?

• bripod: From the beginning of this War, us members of Team Time knew we had the ability to go into the later rounds, it was just a matter of execution... and luck. We put in a lot of hard work but also tried to maintain a jovial atmosphere within the team. After all, we enjoy playing this game and when we stop enjoying it, we might as well quit.
  
  
• deuce22: Did I think Team Aether could win war? Of course, look at War #3. Going into War #5, did I expect to make it to the final battle? No. I knew I would make several mistakes in my first war as general, and I have, but I never expected that we would overcome them to make it to the final battle. I have to give credit to my teammates for keeping morale up after each of our several derps this war.
  

How have you experienced War #5 so far? What are your personal highlights?

• bripod: Being a return player, this War seemed to run a bit smoother than last. Great competition from some talented players and a few surprise decks thrown in for good measure. Kinda sorry to see Team Underworld gone, but with them coming in after the War had already started, and the Event Cards which caused so much turmoil,  I guess it was a necessary move.  The Event Cards were a lot better than last War and added to the overall experience, I feel. Still a few things to tweak but it sure was a fun event.
  
  
• deuce22: War #5 has been an incredible journey of highs and lows. So many successes and so much frustration, it’s really hard to put into words.
  As for my personal highlights of war 5, I don’t think there has been anything more satisfying than getting to know my teammates, listening to their insane conversations, and knowing that they support me no matter what.
  

During War #5, Time and Aether met in 12 battles. Time currently is in the lead with 7 wins; how do you think your odds are for the final?

• bripod: Well, we've been sacrificing virgins to the RNG all week, so hopefully it was enough... With the two decks and two Generals involved, I'm pretty sure it'll come down to RNG... I feel confident in our Generals abilities with the cards he's chosen to take into battle.
  
  
• deuce22: 50-50. Despite knowing each other’s vaults almost exclusively, I don’t think either of us can field a deck that consistently beats everything our opponent can field. RNG will likely be the determining factor, but epic mindgates are always possible.
  

What have you seen this season that surprised you, in terms of player skill or deckbuilding?

• bripod: I was surprised at the number of new players that joined. This is what I think the number one goal of events should be, involving the newer members of the community. Support teams were an interesting idea and did just that but they sure made it difficult in late rounds as many teams faced quite a few support battles. Maybe a bit of improvement in the Support teams side of things could help ease the burden during the deck building phase. The decks were pretty good. Many standard decks in play that are staples for teams but there were a few we saw that were not expected. Maybe a slightly larger vault could facilitate even more, who knows.
  
  
• deuce22: It’s so difficult to talk about player skill as it is so rare to experience it as a determining factor in a matchup. However, in terms of deckbuilding, I can only really comment on those of my teammates. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised at how creative they all have been. I feel like Team Aether has fielded some unique decks as well as some interesting modifications to our staples. Some worked, and some didn’t, but I’ve learned a lot this war thanks to the creativity of my teammates.
  

Predictions for War #6?

• bripod: Eh, the rules will be posted, some will complain, the WM's will tell them they should've contributed to the Discussion thread and life will go on. I think War #5 is getting a bit closer to something we can all live with. I do hope we get closer with each War and not take any steps back along the way. Also, with Aether being able to use Psion next War, they're gonna be hanging out til the late rounds again, I feel. It'll be interesting to see what other new cards might influence War #6 also...
  
  
• deuce22: LMAO, way to early to make any sort of prediction. There are many many factors that go into determining the outcome of a war. But one thing I do believe is that Aether will be a stronger team next war whether I am General or not. If Aether has an active team next war, I have no doubt in my mind they can dominate War #6.

• bripod: Team Time would like to thank Kev and ddevans (and Mith) for running a smooth event. It could never have happened if it wasn't for all your hard work. Thank you!
  I would personally like to thank my team mates for working so hard to help get us to the finals match. You guys played hard and contributed even harder. You should all be proud of what we've accomplished, Team Time's highest finish in War, to date. A special mention needs to go to McSod. Our only supt team member to participate in this War. McSod, job well done my boy. Thanks for guarding our relics, contributing (living) in team chat and being such a good friend to hang out with... we still need to go have that beer one day... Personal thanks to my brother, Inthisroom for sparring with me endlessly in prep for upcoming rounds after his team was knocked out. Sorry I made you play all those crappy decks...
  Last, but certainly not least, I'd like to thank a young man that I have watched grow from last War into a true leader, my Boss, 10 men. Sir, again, thank you. Not only have you embraced the role of General but you've been a great friend too. I'm proud to have served under you again and cherish all that you've taught me. Maybe one day your Padawan will make you proud too...
  
  
• deuce22: Obviously I have to thank all of the WM's for their efforts this war, especially with the advent of support teams  . Special thanks to kev for inspiring me to keep going strong halfway through the war. I’ve acknowledged my team several times in this interview, and I will acknowledge them again. Aether wouldn’t have made it to the final battle without each and every one of you. Lastly, I want to thank my wife, who will likely never see this, for putting up with my obsession over this ridiculous card game.

I was tired of no one having Grandmaster (and also of no Grandmaster battle...), so I'll be handing the title out immediately from now on. It only makes sense people would get to feel the glory for at least a while.
