You mean you don't like it when I watch you, Dragoon?
Perception is the source of misunderstanding.

Why, yes. I do have a Mindgate necklace. It's how I ninja everyone.

If at all possible, ban spectate.  The subject was bound to surface eventually, so I might as well be the one to address the elephant in the room.

It isn't necessarily a bad thing to spectate other teams' testing decks, but it is questionable or unethical to some.
Its not really possible. At best, for the next war, players can put in their application if they have alt account for testing purposes.
People use spectate outside the war too, and if you ban it with rules, I'm sure we'll hear accusations how someone used "perfect counter" just because they were spying on spectate.
To me, the issue is questionable; everyone has access to spec mode (and as heard on chat, lots of teams at least tried to catch someone testing), and everyone CAN use alt accounts if they have the will to farm with them. Still, knowing* your opponent deck, is a bit detrimental to the event.

*You can never be sure that what you saw is THE deck. Me and Shantu did some false testing just for teh lulz.

@zeru: you cant really moderate spec mode = you cant implement spec banning

@timer: stop introducing new role when we are going the opposite direction and are looking at much bigger things to solve for future war

Do we really need a system like that? Current system allows you to chose between a strong, stable vault that can take a lot of loses and still be competitive or you can make a vault with many powerful decks that increase your chances of winning.

Unlike Entropy which has both?

[pridetalk] What do you really know about Entropy's vault?  8) [/pridetalk]

Sadly, I will not share Entropy's strategy with you. War is not over yet. Our vault is excellent but it took many rounds of good decisions to make it this way.
I'm sorry if I questioned your strategy, but looking at the games won and lost so far there is a favouritism to to Entropy due to keys like Nova, discord, dissipation, and to fire with Immolation and phoenix. Being an element with strong keys in element is an advantage.

Water just doesn't have strong keys but instead has mediocre slower tools so to gain strength has to outscource. Its a Cardpool variance that makes it easier on some teams.

It's not that I disagree with your premise that the elements are inherently unbalanced at least to some extent; but I do think that there is still a lot of room for compensation through good strategy that has not been met. In other words, everyone has room to improve their strategy. The situation is far from hopeless or predetermined for any team.

Agreed,

I'd like to remove the pairings bias and see if the showing is a better match of skill and strategy.
The second variance I woould like to adjust is stability of card pools for favouritism of agressive over passive elements.

I have some ideas in a testing pool and from previous progressive team tournaments I've run before in Magic, L5R, DBZ, Jyhad and various other board / miniature / card games. I'll post them later tonight after I've evaluated.

This really, really interests me. Are you a long-time strategy gamer? CCGs in general?

Yep, I'm 31 years old and been playing since about 11 when I moved into town from the bush. I was actually making my own wargames / boardgames prior to that but I couldn't really play with anyone because they were to technical for my peers.

As ccg's go I've played and collected lots. I have at least 200k cards in my personal collection spanning over about 40 titles. Magic, L5R, Warlord and I guess DBZ were my big games but I also have Jyhad/Vampire, Spycraft, Shadowrun, 7th Sea, InitialD, City of Heroes, Doomtrooper, Call of Ctulu, Star Wars (by Decipher) and more. I was Highest ranked Scorpion Player and Warlord Player in australia at one time. Was due to be the dragonlord but the company changed over contracts. I have several $1000 worth of boardgmes including a full version of Talisman 2nd ed.

Back on Topic

ALTERNATE PAIRINGS

1. Each team makes decks up to the amount allowed. Less if prefered. Each of these decks is to challenge another element. An element can only be challenged once per round.

2. If 2 elements end up challenging each other, they duel best of 3 as usual. The loser discards 12 cards.

3. If a team challenges an opponent and the opponent did not return the challenge. The opponent forfiets 6 cards to the challenger.

Advantages -
 - Teams choose where they are commiting players and cards.
 - Teams only have to fight an element once per round and can choose to forfiet cards if they would rather fight elsewhere.
 - No random pairing luck creating an advantage for any team.

This is a silly idea, but I figure I would toss it in as an FCO thing. :P

What if there was a pre-war COMPETITION that gave the winners of the comp. some special support to their winning/favored element? It'd be like a Propaganda topic, but with a twist - you'd have to complete say, a card idea that demonstrates the feeling of war, and the winner gets to choose which elements they want to help (or hinder) before the War begins. Or maybe some special reward that reduces their auction price, or allows them to choose a different event card for a round, etc... >_>

...probably not going to happen, but I just wanted to get this out there. ;D

Adding complexity for the sake of complexity here, it's just an idea I have to get out of my head and onto a keyboard so it will leave me alone. Please disregard.

To drive community engagement, each round there is a "fan tourney". People outside the War participate in a tournament. The winner of the tournament gets to nominate an element - the next deckbuilding round, that element gets to add any 6 cards of their element to their vault.
