I like the category types a lot. I really do not like the fact that after a certain bid players can choose to play for a team automatically. The whole point of an auction is that any general should be able to buy any player, but it's just a matter of how much s/he wants to pay. A lot of the strategy is lost when there is a cap on the value of players, and there's just no reason for it.
By the time the bids reach over 24 bids, it's really overkill when the team the slave wants to be on keeps having to increase their bid. (and lose even more during the war)
Yup, thanks for agreeing with me.

It's great how generals can actually use intelligent tactics to force others' bids up. It's very much not great how that strategy is discarded after 24 cards because of an unnecessary outlet.
Actually, no, I meant that by 24 cards, the bid is overkill enough that the biddee should have auto-buyout. See Dragoon#'s thread to see what I mean.

It shouldn't be up to the biddee at all. That defeats the entire purpose of being auctioned off.

If players were allowed to choose whatever Element they wanted, it would be vastly different from the way War works -- and that would be fine. But then there would be no auction.

And even though that's not how it works, it's already unnecessarily possible for players to choose sides by being a Loyalist. But the fact is that there's no guarantee of which team one plays for -- and there shouldn't be. The 24-card rule completely undermines that.
