Advanced War betting system

Our current War betting is only about guessing who the winners are, which is kind of lame. I suggest that we make betting a bit more interesting. We have already had players do some unofficial betting by posting their picks of duels winners during a round. We can use the same exact system and give points based on how many they get correct each round.

Google Docs is once again a great tool for this. Here's how it would work:

1. Warmasters add a list of duels to Google Docs online form
2. Users submit their bets using that online form
3. Once submitted, the bets can be seen in a public spreadsheet that will be embedded on the forums
4. Battle results will added as they come in, and the score of each player gets counted automatically
5. The user with the most points at the end of War, wins the prize!

So this would basically be a combination of current "Match Results and Countdown" and a new kind of betting system.

Opinions? Suggestions?

Yes. You would be able to submit your bets during the deckbuilding phase. Not submitting bets would mean zero points for that round, so winning the thing would probably require active participation.

It's the building of the system that would take some work. The actual management should be pretty easy because most of the things are automated.

We would probably need some volunteers to run it, but that shouldn't be a problem because we already have volunteers run those Countdown topics (which are much more work).

Okay yeah it was what I understood and yes It will take a few time but nevermind (posting random result is fairly quick )

Anyway IMHO you should use something very similar to what Kael post when the paring are announced with a third collumn with the title : bet.

like this :
    Opponents                               bet

player1 vs player2              I bet player...

Then every one can edit himself his/her sheet, for example changing colour of his bet (red if he/her was wrong, green if right)

Then warmaster or any admin/modo can check and count easily then report all the result in a big sheet with all the participant.

Thouhgt ? Maybe we can't let every one editing his own sheet.. But if it is an other personn who do this It will be a lot of work !

Excellent, I never liked the old betting system since people simply clicking  and increasing their post count were already capable of winning the prize, which I found ridiculous. Will be tough to choose whether to vote for your teammate to win and lose a bet or vote against your teammate... :P

Sounds enjoyable. It's a good way to encourage even more of the community to be interested in war, beyond those directly involved.

I think there should be a (G)"round Zero" where we keep the old betting for a few points

Sounds like a good idea.  Should ensure that the person who wins hung around after their initial post too.
