Here's the PM I sent to Essence. I don't believe 30pts is enough of a penalty. That'd still put it at 330pts vs 240pts (before the finals match).. and the person from the losers bracket would still have the most points regardless of what happens in the finals.
hey.. I seem to have found a SERIOUS FLAW with the Core-Four tournament scoring system.
If a player wins every game of every match, and get 60pts per match (no upped cards vs no upped cards).. then they'll end up with 360pts.
5 rounds (x) 60pts = 300pts (+) 60pts for winning the tourney (=) 360pts.
Now add up how many points the person who made it to the finals from the losers bracket has. Not counting any points from the first round loss...and again using the 60pts per round.
6 rounds (x) 60pts = 360pts (+) 45pts for getting 2nd (=) 405pts.
This is the case for anyone who loses in the 1st or 2nd rounds and make it to the finals.
If the person loses in the 3rd round.. they'll have 300pts before playing in the finals (if they don't get any points on losses).
If the person loses in the 4th round.. they'll have 240pts before playing in the finals.
So, at 60pts per match (the most that's guaranteed): [before the finals matches]
The person from the winners bracket will have 240pts.
1st round loser: 360pts. (330pts) <--- () is after the 30pt penalty
2nd round loser: 360pts. (330pts)
3rd round loser: 300pts. (270pts)
4th round loser: 240pts. (210pts)
So as can be seen, the person in the winners bracket is at a CLEAR DISADVANTAGE. If someone who loses in the first or second round makes it to the finals, they will win; regardless of what happens in the final match.
Possible solutions:
(1) Get rid of the point system and make this a straight-double-elimination-tournament. (I know you probably don't want to do this)
(2) Adjust the point totals for winners bracket vs. losers bracket.
I hope this helps....
