The Greatest Defense [Against Plat] [Work in Progress] https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=52370.msg1109718#msg1109718
« on: November 16, 2013, 02:50:15 am »
My ultimate goal would be for this deck to farm the Platinum Arena.  I am trying to create a deck that can take advantage of both Dimensional Shield and Shard of Sacrifice.  Shard of Sacrifice is especially good against Mono-Air, Momentum creatures and Shard of Wisdom Decks.  Dimensional Shield is better against decks with Purify (obviously).  I believe that a deck containing both forms of defense will be that much stronger at the Platinum Arena level.

This is what I have so far:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5if 71u 71u 71u 71u 71u 71u 72i 72i 72i 72i 7hi 7hi 7hi 7i6 7i6 7i6 7i6 80d 80d 80d 80d 80d 80d 80m 80m 80m 80m 80m 80m 8pu

Here is a second attempt:

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]

You can grav pull a SoFo to block minor damage sources, use inundation and flayers and grav pull for CC, mirror for aether or simple small 1 hp block, dials to by you time and block heavy attacks, etc...

You're -extremely- low on quanta and won't even need to face a denial deck to lose. Denial decks are the strongest right now, so expect to face them anyway.

Getting more :death will be the first of your worries because most decks don't care much about Dims at all in Plat. Of course, SoSa consumes all quanta, so you'd also need lots of :aether if you want to survive after a SoSa. This is why upgraded Dials and SoD's off Light mark works so well with SoSa: you get a lot for very little to no quanta. Draw power, as well, works extremely well with SoSa.

Dims really don't do much in Plat, but if you absolutely want to stick with them, you reaaally need more quanta for both SoSa and Dims. For starters I would do -2 Salvagers, +2 Death pends. I don't think you need 4 Water pends, but adding an Aether tower gives you the risk of drawing only that. This means only Death pends would be optimal, but Death mark would be smarter because you don't need much :death; you need reliable :death.

Death mark, Aether towers, 3 Water pends sounds more stable. I would still do -2 Salvagers because you really need more quanta. If you choose to fight battles where Dims are effective, you'll also find 30 cards is much too small since you can effectively stall for a minimum of 30 turns. In reality you can stall for more because SoSa heals you up and normally adds another turn of endurance. This gives you 36 turns of stall in a deck that only has 23 turns before it decks out and has vulnerable offence. The conclusion is that this tactic is better with more cards, but keep in mind all of this is only true against an opponent that Dims work against. That said, why would you pack Dims if you didn't count on them to be effective? ^^

Spoiler for Hidden:
Interesting idea,

So instead,

I think you are correct about countering the Shard of Wisdom decks.  It seems to me that the only defenses against them are Sundial, Mirror Shield, Shard of Sacrifice and Mass Healing decks.

I was hoping that the Shard of Sacrifices would be enough to pull through against Mono Air and Shard of Wisdom decks.  Unfortunately, I tend to lose a lot more against these decks.

Also, Higurashi is correct about the denial decks.  They have been killing me left and right.

I believe that the only way an ultimate defense deck can be made would be to involve Sanctuary and Mirror Shield.  The Gravity Pulled Shard of Focus idea might provide a counter to Mono-Air (by destroying any Shards of Freedom and absorbing damage).

I will keep trying to improve this deck.

The best counter to Monoair would be a combination of Pulvy, Oty, SoFo shield, healing and Firestorm (or AM if Dragons). You're gonna need to go timebow if you want the best possible defence, and that's perfectly viable for Plat. High winrate, slow speed. Dials are the best, cheapest most versatile option.
