Title: Skyfall - innovative & incredibly funny PvP Rush / Arena Grinder
Post by: ilovecandy on March 30, 2011, 02:22:48 pm
Greetings, fellow Elements lovers!

I've come up with an air/aether/(entropy)-deck that doesn't rely on one or two combos to win but surprises with an incredible amount of card combinations that let you win, usually in turn 5-7, with some PvP matches even being won as soon as the 4th turn.  :D

Key to the deck are Damselflys, Ball Lightnings, fractals, Parallel Universes and some Chaos Powers thrown in for extra fun, finishing off opponents with Sky Blitz even if they're at full health at turn 4-5. After having played 100+ matches with the deck, I find it has a winning chance of 80-90% (!) and commonly outrushes even Rainbow Rushes or fire bursts.

As I'm having a lot of fun with it (nothing beats finishing off an opponent when he's at 90 health and you're at 5), I thought I'd share it with you!  :)

Possible win combinations:

- Fractal'ed and Skyblitz'ed Ball Lightnings - ouch.
- 3x Chaos Power on a Ball Lightning - clone, clone, boom.
- Elite Wyrm + Chaos Power -> Dive -> Clone -> possibly clone the stronger one again after diving next turn
- Armies of Fractal'ed Damselflies with a Skyblitz hurt. More than opponents expect.
- having a bad hand to start with? Chaos Power your 2 Damselflies. Win in 5 turns.
- only Ball Lightnings and Chaos Power in your hand? Fine - make it count, keep all of them alive and hit hard
- find yourself with too many air quanta? fractal the Elite Wyrm. Watch and giggle.

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mu 7n9 7n9 808 808 808 808 808 808 808 808 809 809 809 80b 80b 80b 80i 80i 8pj

The deck suffers from an early Otyugh, although usually the little hungry monsters can't keep up with the flow of creatures before your opponent's dead. Also, Thunderstorm is bad, but not played by many anyway. Rain of Fire is annoying, but by then, your opponent is at half its health anyway. Apart from these 3 cards, quanta suckers can be very annoying, as I've build the deck to use only the bare minimum of quanta generating cards needed for a fast win.

Give it a try, enjoy the many combinations to their fullest, and let me know what you think! :) Possible improvements or tips by nice co-players are always welcome.

Have fun making the sky fall on your opponent's head!  :)

-1 aether tower or chaos power because i like 30 card decks :>

I like the idea of combining decks (I've tried it unsuccessfully a few times) but one of the two reasons you should (other than the fun factor) would be because the new deck is more versatile than its predecessors.

Do you find this the case? Or, do you find that each game you're playing a single deck within that game, and that single deck for that game can always be countered and it's only a matter of luck?

Another reason would be because it actually makes the original deck better (it is consistently faster than the deck you're emulating with your 5 turn wins). Do your 5 turn wins always come from one combo? Could a deck based solely on that combo be consistently faster than the one you have here?

Just some questions for discussion.

hi patchx94, thanks for your thoughts!

I've tried the 6 tower version and found it to be more reliable with an additional one.

yes, I do find the deck more versatile; I've tried out "purer" deck versions and have found them to be weak against a handful of particular decks; as losing just because your opponents plays deck X or Y is something I can't stand, I definitely prefer the versatility this deck combination is offering.

"other than the fun factor" - hey, the fun factor is a pretty big one in a game you're playing for fun, isn't it? :D

my 5 turn wins originate from any of the combos listed above, which I've found intriguing. Decks that rely on a quick single combo often are fast, but can be countered just as easily. And, it adds a lot of complexity if you actually have to check your cards the first 2 turns to figure out how to maximize the possible winning strategy this time. (which makes it a rewarding feeling to win with the deck, in my opinion)

some nice folks in PvP even commented me on this "smooth and elegant" deck today and wanted to check the forum - hope you'll find this thread and have fun with the deck! :)

I'm not quite that eloquent but this is a brilliantly fun deck - even to play against!
It's fantastic to see new deck types in PvP - and even better when they utilize little used creatures to an actual positive effect.

I haven't the electrum to build this yet - but it's definitely a new target for me to grasp at.

Thanks for posting, ilovecandy!

thank you, Jaxly! :D I wanted to share this because it's a lot of fun! if even 2 people are grabbing that deck idea and are having a fun time with it, it's been worth posting. :) even though I believe that after having tried it out, there might be some more folks that are into it .. ! :D

also, I've never gotten that many "wow, your deck looks fun!" posts and ingame messages from pvp opponents. looks like people like it - all of you that I've been playing against, thanks for the positive feedback!

I just built this baby, it's sooooo much fun. I had to  chuckle involuntarily the first couple of time I 1-shot my opponent

Wow.. CP Wyrm and Blight OTK in one! Need to try this out. Thanks!

Edit: I find that most often I lack  :air to Sky Blitz, while diving with Wyrms out. So I've made the following changes:
-1 Blight
-1 Chaos Power
-1 Aether Tower
-3 Twin Universe
+1 Elite Wyrm
+2 Phase Shield
+2 Wind Tower

Code: [Select]
6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 6u2 7ms 7ms 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mt 7mu 7mu 7n9 7n9 808 808 808 808 808 808 808 809 809 80d 80d 80i 80i
A more defensive approach; let's you survive longer against rushes to get your combos out.

I just got killed by Kjaska using my "own" deck. nice shot!  8)

adding lobo and/or fog shield instead of a PU might be worth a try. thanks for the idea! :)

It's funny how many people forget this is a game and to have fun with it. Thanks candy, maybe more players will take that outlook also.

Deck looks fun, though I'd definitely add the fog shield or two and take something else out.

The deck is definitely fun.  However, I'm worried about consistently getting good hands, although I would have to test it further to get a good feel of it.

Personally, I'd rather make a duo than a trio deck to get more consistent draws.  Still, good job !

Because of the versatility of this deck, some of the inconsistent draws will still let you pull off at least 1 winning combo.

Also, my first post was editted with my take on the deck.

hey noobiecakes, I like your version, although for taking a more defensive approach I've been thinking about one or two Wing-shields - as in case of being stolen, I wouldn't even care, while aether shields are  pain in the a** when stolen and really hurt this deck. what do you think?

as for taking out the parallel universes - nah, I find them important for various on-the-fly clones and versatility. will try taking out one chaos power, though, might be 5 are enough. thanks for your ideas!

Have to agree on that. I got my Fog Shield stolen a couple of times, and it was a pita. I'll  test Wings instead of Fog Shield. The Electrocutor I included hasn't proven it's worth for now.

as both eagle's eye and fog shield are super-annoying when stolen, try Wings shield - keeps you from being hurt for 5 turns for just 3 air quanta, and IF it gets stolen, you just shrug and keep on winning. (eagle's eye also uses the scarce air quanta this deck provides, leaving none for further sky blitzes)

trying out going with a Wings shield right now. hasn't really been worth its salt so far, though. I usually ended up wishing I'd have had another chaos power before cloning instead. the deck isn't built for prolonged matches anyway. will keep testing :D

I fought you twice today and I really liked your deck!  You played the deck different ways even though I used the same deck.  Would like to know how you do vs NM+GotP decks.
Title: Re: Skyfall - innovative & incredibly funny PvP Rush

GotP-decks are annoying like hell. rewinds, aether shields, healing? good lord. best thing about these probably is that it's a clear outcome after 5 turns. either they're dead, or I'm, basically. ^^ if anything, this is as close to an anti-skyfall deck as it gets, I guess.  ???

what are NM-decks? don't know that abbreviation, sorry

I think NM = nightmare ?  It makes sense with GotP.

Correct, I was talking about decks that are:

Ghost of the Past
Nightmare
Rewind

Post by: Kjaska on April 15, 2011, 09:02:28 am
you could try and hold back on playing your cards, to minimize the damage caused by nightmare and gotp. as in you play only 1 card per round until you have your killer combo in your hand and you can play it in one round.
Title: Re: Skyfall - innovative & incredibly funny PvP Rush
Post by: ilovecandy on April 15, 2011, 10:52:10 am
uh, I thought you were talking about the "I GotP time" FG stall deck, nevermind

yeah, playing your inital rush reduces your chances on a win greatly, don't do it against a nightmare / rewind deck.
but as long as I kept to just playing the damsels and aether towers, a win was usually secured with a fullhand combo. sure, you can get extremely unlucky and draw both Skyblitzes + Fractals + 3 PUs at start, but that shouldn't happen more than once every 20 years anyway. ^^ *crosses fingers*

I tried switching the aether towers with aether pendulums and replacing some stuff with discords, BEs, and upped pandemoniums or antimatters.
Didn't have favorable results, unfortunately.

If this were made almost unupped (on my other user) in what order should I upgrade things (obv. chaos power first but...)

Thoughts?

Mabye I'll have to expand on quanta production?

yours is a very viable version, plaf. some more aether, another fractal .. sure it works well =)

djhopper: unupped, this deck pretty much sucks and is inferior to other unupped pvp farmers, from my experience. its strength really comes from the freaking fast quanta generating and upped cards, as unupped most of your cards are only 40% of their original worth here. if you want an upgrade order, though, quanta would be first priority, I guess. good luck and tell us how the upgrade process is going! :)

I concur.

the originally posted version rocks hard and is fun, but un-upped there are better decks out there, simply because Skyfall shines and makes perfect use of all the upgraded bonuses (such as chaos power).

if you liked my deck, give it a small comment to give the decks that give some sort of unique gameplay some credit! :) people who might be looking for new deck ideas deserve to have some decks among those current 30 that are actually interesting. thanks! :D *waves "yay!" flag*

I'm very surprised I somehow haven't noticed this thread until now.
I tried the deck in the OP and it works fantastically; it's not an easy thing to be able to pull of 4-5 turn wins consistently with Sky Blitz and this deck doesn't seem to have problems doing just that.  It's also unique in that there are several different ways to kill the enemy which is something very uncommon unless the deck is a Rainbow.  It's very fun, very well made and very efficient; well done.

so, with the arrival of the cool pvp500 Arena mode, I realised my deck doesnt fare too well against those silver+ opponents, as it's not meant to be used against stall decks of any kind.

If you're looking for a decent deck to farm those bronze league rares, though, it can handle them decks just fine.  ;) quick wins for quick rares. Hope you'll enjoy!

I figured I should revive this old deck. It is quite amazing and I think newer forum members should get a chance to look at it. Its effectiveness is great and is one of the faster rushes out there.

Thank you for reviving this thread! I just discovered this and it's working well so far. Trying to add defense but anything I do seems to take away from the strategy of this deck too much. Great deck ilovecandy, thank you!

Great deck. What do you think, how would SoFr be a viable addition for this deck?

With the low quanta production, maybe not.

What he said. This deck runs on more or less the absolute least amount of quanta it can. Some games you have more than enough, but most games shouldn't last long enough that you need SoFr, much less last long enough to play SoFr.

This still hangs around at the very top of my list of favorite decks, this is a truly amazing deck that I love playing around with.

hey folks! :) been quite a bit since I last visited the forum, happy to hear this deck idea is fun to a lot of new players as well! :)

as for shard of freedom: been toying around with them a bit, they work great against the obnoxious phase shield and the likes .. have included 2 in my deck right now just for the lols of it. if you're not getting a terribly bad draw, the 3 mana should be affordable to get one out, and it can make quite a difference if you're lucky.

still, nothing that the deck needs to rely on. just a fun addition, I'd say; a quite strong one nevertheless if you got some strong clones etc.

keep enjoying the deck and thank you for the positive feedback! :)

Could you use SoW for buffs to Wyrm and for TU? I've been trying it, but can't figure out what to take out. You need CP for the Ball Lightnings, after all.

I don't think SoW is a good addition, as every card in the deck is required and cannot be taken out. CP does the job just fine, and you'd have to quanta balance for SoW as well.

It would actually be easier to balance with SoW, just switch to aether mark XD

Then you can't use Ball Lightnings anymore and this turns into Powerful Wyrms 2.

powerful wyrms sounds like an air-based wyrm/damselfly one-trick pony? might be very powerful, but maybe not as versatile as the combination with purple fun stuff :D

The purple fun stuff really isn't that big a deal - any buff to creature damage will do, and some other elements are more well-rounded. In my mind, your deck's core is the :aether+ :air part, and then you add damage buffs from any element to taste.

For instance: I tried building your deck as a 35-card arena deck, and tested it against common Arena grinding decks. It consistently failed against Poison Dials's 18 turns of stalling power. So I tried switching :entropy to :water and, well, we'll see how it does but it looks promising!

It typically has a surfeit of :air quanta due to wasting its BLs on turn one without a SoP out to buff them, so it ends up using Fractal on Damselflies. The occasional ridiculousness it pulls off with fractal BL, though, makes me feel it's still worthwhile to include a couple. I reduced the damselflies due to Air pillars being my forced inclusion card.

You ever got the Permafrost out? I mean it is 7 :water, supplied solely from your mark...

He mentioned it was for his arena deck, so I'm sure he has a double or triple mark.

well, as far as Arena is concerned, a lot of different options apply, due to the buffs you can hand out to your deck of choice.

as for pvp, what have been your experiences with the shard? I'm really starting to like it, by the off-chance that I actually get it early :)

:o This deck seems amazing, especially as it can turn any draw into a killer. I don't have the electrum to build this, but definitely going to keep this on my decks wishlist. On that note, I need to make a decks wishlist.
