Indeed, on my NBC alt Aethofuze I came to the same conclusion that 8 fodders is great to have if you can. It's even better if you have MP's since they don't die easily, so I made this with the ups I had:

And looking back, the ol' classic vNG packed 4 MP's and 4 Balls to get to that nice number 8 as well. Now, this variant I had to make was largely because I only had 3 Golems, but it turns out speed trumps PC in Bronze for gain/hour.
I still prefer MP's because you're not spending an extra card for Cremation, but the Cremation nerf has certainly hurt. At least when you're not packing any towers or pends, you won't end up with surplus
if you're only running Destroyers. On the other hand, towers/pends often let you play another creature one turn earlier and you become less reliant on the combo draw.
The Grabby/Golem combo is always nice for beating CC because you have two ways of doing it: an early Golem growing out of range or Grabbys staying burrowed/unevolved. I do tend to prefer having a weapon with this kind of gameplan though, as it synergizes so well with it. More Grabbies than MP's is certainly better against Bonewall at least.
