8th Trials - Phase 3 Community Vote [Time] https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=55442.msg1151083#msg1151083

Phase 3 - Community Vote

It's time to vote for your favorite Master candidate!  Every community member has one vote. You can change your vote at any time as long as there is still time on the clock.

Vote based on who you think would make the best Master of that element. Do not vote based on who is the best player or who you know personally. Try to pick someone who you think would help the community the most as THE representative for their element.  If you do not have any preference for who should be Master, or cannot decide between the candidates, please select the "None Worthy" option.

To help you make the best decision possible, feel free to ask the candidates questions.  Both challengers and defending Masters ought to answer the questions in this thread to help the voters make the best possible choice.  Please put all your answers in a single post (employing spoiler tags is recommended).  Also, challengers should include in that post a link to your Phase 1 submission post.

Questions and answers may begin now that this topic is posted.
Voting will begin when the polls are up at the official start of Phase 3.
Phase 3 ends when poll expires.
Deckbuilding mad scientist.  Come by and hang out in my stream!

Trials Phase 1 tasks: Completed.

What time is it?
Spoiler for vrt:
Obviously

What was the time of your life
Spoiler for ji412jo:
Dammit people, stop asking questions that I can answer by a video! xD

t=11

What is your favorite way to tell time?
Spoiler for TribalTrouble:
There are many ways to tell the time. I prefer telling the time as shown on a digital clock and I also prefer scaling time from 0 to 24 instead of 0 to 12, using AM and PM. For example, while others may say things like half past ten in the afternoon or 9:30 PM, I just say it as 21:30.

Pick a number between 1 and 100000
Or: if I feel you're all worthy, should I vote "None Worthy"?
Spoiler for serprex:
65536                      my favorite number

If I couldn't vote on myself, I'd vote on Spike. If you want an exciting Time Trials though, vote on Kuro. The closer their total points will be, the more breath-holding this event is.

To all challengers: What is the most common mistake new :time players make? What does your experience help you do instead? (Clarification: Assume you're time master, and a brand new player who just chose :time as their starter deck comes to you for help. What's the biggest advice you give them?)

In your opinion, is the :time element's nymph the most valuable of the 12 nymphs (here talking specifically about the nymph card)? Why or why not?
Spoiler for theelkspeaks:
I like the question, because I was also one of those players whose starter element was Time. A very common mistake by new :time players is that they keep putting cards in their decks without adding extra drawpower. They also tend to use Precognition in 30+ card decks, which is not as effective as in 30 card decks. My experience can help the newbies to make efficient monorush decks and also to understand the power of Reverse Time. My biggest advice to them is to be patient, as becoming an experienced Time player takes, well.... time.

Sadly I never really got the opportunity to get an answer to this question as I only have 1 Golden Nymph, so I only have a glimpse of her full potential. Definitely I include her in Every Single Time rush, Ever. Of all the knowledge I have about Golden Nymph, I'd say she's the 2nd most powerful nymph out of all the 12, because not only has it incredible stats, but continuously looking at your opponent's hand while drawing more quanta to play more cards faster is purely awesome!

How would you respond to my statement that time has the best nymph yet the worst alchemy spell?
Spoiler for dragonsdemesne:
I wish it would be best, but I think Golden Nymph got the Silver medal in the Nymph Olympics. However, I agree that Precognition is UP, because it only really helps with trimming down your deck by 1 card, which can also be solved by NOT putting Precognition in your deck. People would argue that in 30-card decks, they help getting the important combo cards faster, but that's still not as strong as putting other useful and affordable cards instead in your deck, like Reverse Time or Graboid.

You can get immediately one of those skills for War.
Which one you will chose:
1) Abillity to see future (not the games itself, but for example - standings of future matches)
2) Abillity to remember all past wars matches, standings, used decks and other.
Spoiler for jarozaoz:
The second, because War repeats itself everytime and by seeing the past, not only I see the future, but also a variety of possible decks. :D

Realistically, do you think you can topple aether? Whats so new/not new this time (more important part)?
Spoiler for Laxaderp:
First of all, good to see you back, even if just for a short time!
We definitely have chance now! Deuce retires which means other masterminds have opportunity to shine now. I can tell you for sure that Spike will be on Team Time, be it general or just a simple lieutenant. If Spike will be just as good as OA in mindgating - if not better - time can definitely win War.

To all, I ask the Eternal Question: Why?
Spoiler for Rutarete:
Sorry, I have no answer for this. :(

All these questions are related to time and to a same specific subject about time.

  • Which southpark character claimed he was everywhere and nowhere at the same time and on which episode ?
(Feel free to google these things)

Related bonus track: Sığmazam (A turkish poem from 600 years ago)
Spoiler for hainkarga:
Kyyyle! :D In the episode with the Tooth Fairy Mafia.

Sorry, this was the only question I could answer off the top of my head and using Google feels like cheating. By the same spirit, I could even check my competitor's answers and copy them.

What do you think time, as an element, is missing?
Is time missing anything? Does time have everything it wants in some form?
Spoiler for Frozengaia:
Yes, time needs either PC or healing(defense), but I think that thematically time is not suitable to give PC, so that's why I think adding more defense should be the solution. The idea is to give time a defensive card that is boosted by its main strength: the extra drawpower. This is where Time Barrier comes to play; a permanent that costs 7|5 and gives you 7 barriers that absorb a single damage source - just like Bonewall. The twist is that you get 2 extra Time Barriers with each draw on your side. This includes both normal draws every turn and extra draws too from hourglasses, Golden Nymphs, Sundials and Shard of braveries.

If I apply to participate in War, would you bid on me, and max how many cards ?  :-*
Spoiler for farscape:
What interests me more is why you trhew a kiss to us? x3

Spoiler for prologue:
First of all, when I first joined War, i experienced that only those teams put bids on players with no former war experience, who are already ran out of possible good players to bid on. I hope you don't take it as an offense when the high-tier warteams that you bid on only choose strong veteran people, because i DID take it as an offense first. But then we both have to remember that it's logical, because they want to win war, and they have a better chance if they have more experienced players.
Long story short, we don't really know about your PvP capabilities yet, but you reached a very high position in Computer Simulations I, so you might have potential. :) Because of this, depending on the situation, I'd bid around 2 cards for you, because I expect others to put 1 on new war players. This way i would ensure at first to have you on my team.

* Kuroaitou plays Procrastination.

Dear candidates,

What time is it?

I could state that the time you want is the same as mine technically, as we live in the same time zone (PST WEST COAST YA'LL :P!), but the more appropriate answer is:

It's always a good time to reflect.

To all Time trialists

What was the time of your life

I think it was about 7 years ago when I entered my original college, but then again, I could also say it was 3 years ago that I really got into this game and met all of you lovely people (well, minus a few crazy ones). However, I guess all in all, the time of my life is actually right now.

Kinda scary, when I think about it too much.

What is your favorite way to tell time?

Practically: With my cell-phone or any accurate analog clock.
Metaphorically: With a story about how I failed {insert real-life or game-based event here}...
Childishly: [Insert even worse joke about watches]
Rudely: YOU CAN ALREADY TELL BY THE FORUM'S TIME POST STAMP.

Pick a number between 1 and 100000
Or: if I feel you're all worthy, should I vote "None Worthy"?

I can't answer the top question correctly without you giving me the base of the numbering system. Is it decimal? Binary? Octal? ^^;
Otherwise, I would say you shouldn't vote at all, since not voting for anyone = basically voting for everyone, as one vote on every candidate isn't decreasing nor increasing the gap between participants for Phase 3.

I think that the majority of extremely 'fresh' Time players try to use Golden Hourglasses and Sundials as ways of speeding up their deck instead of simply shrinking their deck to an actual rush deck (30 cards). Others would probably become jaded by Time's cards that they switch to another element without appreciating the nuances of the element also. :(

My initial advice would be if they were sure they wanted to start with the Time element, because lets face it - there are plenty of others decks from other elements (Mono life, immorush, Graboids, Devourer/Darkness, Mono-Aether Dim spam, and Speed Poison [Water and/or death builds]) that seem much more elementary in their functions in regards to playing creatures and basic spells to win as quickly as possible against AI3.

If they were adamant, I would advise them to create this deck as shown below, by selling off some of the awkward cards Time starts off with (quantum pillars, parasites, fate eggs, anubis, etc.) to create the MOST BASIC time-synergy that I can think of: Ghostmare (unupped and beginning phase). This way, they can learn to appreciate Time's main damage dealer (Ghosts), while also learning the concept of passives (Obsession), and the denial/slowing effect of Time's main cards/this type of deck (Reverse Time for creature control, Procrastination to slow damage, Nightmare to prevent card drawing).

Hover over cards for details, click for permalink
Deck import code : [Select]
5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rg 5rj 5rk 5rk 5rm 5ru 5ru 5ru 5ru 5ru 5ru 5up 5v1 5v1 5v1 5v1 5v1 8pt

As for the Nymph question, I don't think any nymph is more valuable than any other; every Nymph has its strengths and weaknesses, and given good stats, our 'Golden' is probably one of the better attacking Nymph cards with a wonderful skill. It also has a great combo with Shard of Readiness if you want to do double-drawing. Otherwise, many other nymphs have far more miraculous or tactical alchemy effects, from healing and creature control, to mass creature generation and huge damage boosts.

...
How would you respond to my statement that time has the best nymph yet the worst alchemy spell?

As I said before, the phrase 'best nymph' is still debatable, since each nymph is designed (or perhaps balanced?) around their stats and skills. However, I would say that the most inefficient (not "worst") alchemy spell is probably Aflatoxin, followed by Luciferin. The former suffers from (I feel) an inadequate quanta requirement for infecting a creature (which can be killed twice, mutated, rewound, cured, healed or buffed periodically, etc., to avoid Cell infestation), while the latter suffers from a lack of mechanical usage in general due to creature requirements (if you want to take advantage of the light quanta generation, rather than the healing).

Precognition I think is somewhere in the middle in my opinion: it doesn't prevent your death directly nor place your opponent at a disadvantage by removing their creatures or whatnot. But that knowledge of the opponent's hand and drawing another card can be wonderful in many situations (it was the reason why I was able to bid my time accordingly with the Golden Nymph's use of Precognition in my trial battles).

To all chalengers:
You can get immediately one of those skills for War.
Which one you will chose:
1) Abillity to see future (not the games itself, but for example - standings of future matches)
2) Abillity to remember all past wars matches, standings, used decks and other.

The 2nd option. The first has no real informative use to me whatsoever, and might possibly be our downfall:
'Oh, Time finishes in fourth place because we bomb in the 6th round of war by going 0-5? WELL LET ME PROVE YOU OTHERWISE? {*gets 0-5 anyway because of decks*}'

You can't prevent things you can't predict, and if the prediction is vague as all hell in regards to how you got there to begin with, then it's even more absurd. Knowing the past AT LEAST allows you to acknowledge patterns within certain elements and war teams, and gives you deck archetypes to create new decks to counter, mitigate, or shut down completely. In addition, you can also see the reactions to certain matches and then go from there instead (that deck was awesome because he used it THAT way! - "I can't believe [person] lost, they totally should have []" - that is the craziest deck that shouldn't have worked, but BLEZ DA RNG, etc.).

Realistically, do you think you can topple aether? Whats so new/not new this time (more important part)?

As long as deuce is leading, no. (*cheers that deuce22 has stepped down... hopefully T.T *)

Jokes aside, I think that Time can win war, but might need the help of other elements to bring down Aether instead. In addition, my Mindgating skills may not be perfect, but I've definitely gotten a lot better at meta-gaming and believe that anyone who is willing to be on Time [no pun intended] (including all of the Time trial participants), will also assist in trying to predict what team will play what. Of course, I still kind of wish we had a few mid-ranged attacks and spells that could change Time's gameplay... (*coughs haughtily at Fractal and Psion*). >.<

To all, I ask the Eternal Question: Why?

Desire, I guess? Although really, it's more of a 'redemption/closure' ordeal, since I still feel like I need to prove myself for the 8th time...  :-[

Dear time triallists:

What do you think time, as an element, is missing?
Is time missing anything? Does time have everything it wants in some form?

A mid-ranged attacker that doesn't cost over 5 :time quanta that deals decent damage? (Think about the Spiders, or Lava Golem, or even Toadfish).
Spells?
Cards that more accurately reflect an elemental's ability to affect time either directly or indirectly (removing permanents with timers, cards that slow the amount of damage being dealt in a turn or by damaging spells, cards that cause consequences if you fail to react to etc.)
Another shield?

...it's missing quite a bit to be honest. :X But I still love it.

Question to Kuroaitou:

What emotion could describe you the best?

Nostalgically whimsical. :P

...
If I apply to participate in War, would you bid on me, and max how many cards ?  :-*

I would bid 1 card on you if you wanted in, probably 3 or more (since I like prime numbers), but not even close to 24 - that one is reserved for one player only, even though they hate Time anyway. DX

Reserved for answering questions and stuff.

Spoiler for vrt:
It's time to be "unburrowed" In reference to having an antlion for my profile picture for the good part of the past 3 years

Spoiler for ji412jo:
I believe the time of my life has yet to come. Though since the question specified "was", it has to be an old class chalet last year. Though I see all of them in school still :/ (I'm still young so well)

Spoiler for TribalTrouble:
Being in a tropical country, I feel that solar time will still be the way to go for me.

Spoiler for serprex:
213. But if we're all worthy, I think you should vote someone you would like to see as the master, since if you do see all of us as worthy voting "None Worthy" would be contradictory.

Spoiler for theelkspeaks:
I've never used :time in the game till quite late, although since in the beginning you'll generally be farming Level 3s with a rush deck (before going to HBs) consider using a few Hourglasses, enough to unlock :time 's potential but of course not excessively.

Time's nymph is a beauty. Although personally I think the Air Nymph is the strongest (reusable UGs + decent damage), and that I don't have :time nymphs myself, I think it has pretty decent stats and it's skill is still pretty powerful, where Precog will prove more useful in say, PvP.

Spoiler for dragonsdemesne:
Don't think Precog is the most useless spell. Well, maybe it's rarely used (the spell) in many decks because Hourglasses/Dials serve it better, the Time Nymph makes it more useful by having it reuseable.

Spoiler for jarozaoz:
Definitely the second. While I think (digressing a bit) time travel or actual "Precognition" is impossible knowing future standings will certainly change the morale of the team, so probably I wouldn't want that to happen.

Spoiler for Laxadarap:
I think anyone could topple :aether, just a matter of :time . But I think things will change since both Time and Aether will have different generals at the next war. Considering the last war was a year ago, we have a chance.

Spoiler for Rutarete:
There's always a beginning.

Spoiler for hainkarga:
Answer to the first is Kyle from "The Tooth Fairy's Tats 2000". The rest are interesting reads and I might consider thinking about it in the future.

Spoiler for Submachine:
Why not a vote for you? ;-) Between Spike/Kuro I'd go with Kuro, both are similarly synonymous with the :time element here in this forums, and are certainly both worthy for the title, but I'd like to see Kuro win his first Trial :D

Spoiler for Frozengaia:
Sorry I missed out your question earlier! Time is one of the few elements that lack some form of hard CC, though it's CC card has its own unique purposes. Though I am in the opinion that no elements needs to really be 'complete' either

Spoiler for farscape:
War bids will really depend on the participation rate, although if you're willing to join time perhaps a bid of ~3-5 (If 14 is the max as per the last war I think), else maybe slightly less than that

I was inspired to ask this by elk's question:

How would you respond to my statement that time has the best nymph yet the worst alchemy spell?

To all chalengers:
You can get immediately one of those skills for War.
Which one you will chose:
1) Abillity to see future (not the games itself, but for example - standings of future matches)
2) Abillity to remember all past wars matches, standings, used decks and other.

It's just a question which will help me to choose my favourite candidate.

probably this question is dumbest question in all history of Trials.
yay
You. And sand. Endless sand. Endless trillions tons of sand.
This endless power. which can kill you like insignificant bug.
This, is a power of :time...
