Phase 3 - Community Vote

It's time to vote for your favorite Master candidate!  Every community member may vote on only one candidate. You can change your vote at any time as long as there is still time on the clock.

Vote based on who you think would make the best Master of that element. Do not vote based on who is the best player or who you know personally. Try to pick someone who you think would help the community the most as THE representative for their element.  If you believe none of the Trialists should be Master, please select the "None Worthy" option. 

To help you make the best decision possible, feel free to ask the candidates questions.  Both challengers and defending Masters ought to answer the questions in this thread (and in the General questions thread) to help the voters make the best possible choice.  Please put all your answers in a single post (employing spoiler tags is recommended).  Also, challengers should include in that post a link to your Phase 1 submission post.

Alright, first, why aether?
Last two trials, I was accused of just going for easy elements to win. This time, I wanted the toughest challenge and aether is definitely that.

But why vote for me when deuce has won war 3 times, trials 7 times?
Deuce’s last war win was war 7. My first war was war 8, and since war 8, my position in wars is better than deuce (3.67 compared to 5.5). If you feel deuce will help the community the most as the representative of aether, then you need to rethink. I’ve been much more active than him, being in chat every day, helping forum by taking up staff positions etc. Deuce only really comes for trials, war (except the fact that out of last 4 wars, he didn’t even play in 2) or WC.  The 3 wars which deuce won, didn't include market. The next war will most likely include it. War rules aren't the same they used to be, shards are allowed too now. You can't compare aether of war 5,6,7 to now.

Now let’s talk about this trials. One of aether’s toughest opponent is air. Deuce went 2-6 against air this trials. I went 5-5. In our in element match, I also won 3-1 vs deuce. Now I’m not saying this proves I’m better, but it surely shows that I do have some pvp capability.

Also, the trials where I lost phase 3 was where I won the final and the trial where I won phase 3 was where I lost the final. So, even if you want deuce to win, vote for me

What is your favorite element and why is it fire?

I haven't said that my fav element is fire...I don't have favs, sure there are some elements that I like to play with more, and fire is one of them, but I don't have any favorites.

I see you are motivated to beat deuce. Are you also motivated to play aether and lead team aether in war?

It's best if you actually ask my teammates (kaemp is probs the most active one around rn).
I'll hear what everyone has to say, explain them what i think and see where we are at from there. If there is still some debate, I'll make the final call, taking into account all reasonings (especially from the experienced players in my team)

For WWW3: Consider the hypothetical scenario that you've beaten Deuce to gain the mastership.  What are the likely steps you would take (or not take) for War, next year's trials, and PVP overall? Do you continue to represent Aether or move on to another new element?

I'll general War. Will i defend next trials? we will have to wait and see. I'll continue to take part in pvp events (just signed up to tpvp too, where I chose aether as my element so that I could get more experience).

Fire is widely considered a strong element. Why did fire under-perform last war with you as Gen?

Market hurts fire a lot, all the cards that work well with fire were expensive. There were some mistakes during vault building too. If you look at war winner prediction, we weren't expected to be anywhere near top 4.

Staying calm, motivating your team, keeping it fun for everyone and making sure you always give your best so that your team look at you and do the same.

Look at my answer to Vindilos. I don't really have favorites. If I don't get MoA then it's very unlikely that i'll general another element if asked.

Will you participate in the next Brawl under the flag of your trialing element?

Depends when the brawl is and when my uni exams are. If they clash heavily, then no. If there's no clash, sure.

1. Which element do you consider the anti-you?  Which ones rubs you the wrong way or resonates least with you personally?  Please help us understand why this is the case.

2.  Name two previous/current masters (you can include yourself if you wish) who you respect and have been excellent trialists, generals, and representatives of their element.  What traits do these two individuals share?  How are they different?

3.  This question is for anyone that has been a Master before.  Which is more psychologically challenging: winning the first Mastership or defending the Mastership?

1. Death because the thought of people I know dying makes me scared.
2. There are quite a few I can name here. But if I have to name two, it would be OPsen and Afda. Both of them have so many league titles, which is why i started playing leagues in first place. They also helped me in my kong days, and are both really friendly.
3. Even though i've been a master twice before, I've never defended so idk what it feels like But I assume defending, because there's more pressure on you.

Everybody (should) know each Element has its own trait, its strenght and weakness. Being a Master means to know them perfectly.

Said that, explain what's the strenght and weakness of your Element, and, if you had the chance to add just one card (creature, spell, PC, CC, etc...) to your Element, what would it be and why?

Strength: Great cc, stalbreak in form of fractal, dimshield as one of the best shields, psion as shield bypass.
Weakness: quanta heavy, no PC, works better as a support element instead of a main one
What card i'd want: Deflag sorta card. Dial OP.

I will try to answer everyone's questions as they come up. But I will just say this as a sort of preamble... I've been with aether since I first joined elements, and I have proved myself to be a very competent master and general leading aether to 3 consecutive war wins, which seems like ages ago now. But we were able to pull a top 4 finish last war despite being in last place through 4 rounds.

Response to w3: War 8 I was WM. War 9 I boycotted war because of shards (whole lot of good that did...). If you look at my last 5 wars as Gen, then it would include 3 war wins and an average position of 2.8.  And if you look at your 2 wars as master and Gen, your average position is 5 (I love how you conveniently included in your average your war win as a soldier under RootRanger). In terms of phase 2 performance, RNG hit me hard in many of my losses, which is part of the game. Everyone knows you're a capable pvper, I look forward to our trials match.

I feel like i'm the obvious vote for many reasons. But feel free to vote for w3 if you think he can lead aether to greater heights.

Literally speaking, I think the definition of leadership is the act of leading someone or a group of people or something like that.

I dont really have a 2nd favorite element. If I lose trials, would I general for another element if given the opportunity? Probably not. Although, a long time ago I had an interest in generaling a "weak" element to show they can perform well, but pretty much all elements have had a top 2 finish at some point since then.

1. Air. It's not so much the element itself rather the last 3 WMs permitting SoFree to be used unrestricted. SoFree protects from CC, bypasses all shields, and increases attack. How the hell is that allowed in pvp? With the restraints of deckbuilding in war, there is no deck with 50% aether that reliably beats monoair sofree.

2. Afdarenty and ~Napalm. Both are war winning Gens loyal to their element. Napalm had a bit more of a unique personality than afda. Afda was just generally pleasant.

We have hardly seen you around since januari 2018. The semi finals of worlds hasn't been played and and you almost missed trials phase 1.
How will we know you will be more active during War?

1. overanalytical, paranoid, questions everything

2. As a rule, the General has final decision on every deck. But if a soldier of mine feels strongly about a deck and they've prepped for the match, then I let them run what deck they want.

3. Regarding WC semi-finals, phoenix and I setup time to play before the deadline. I missed one day because I was covering emergency surgeries all day, and he never showed for our 2nd set date. I logged on everyday for over a week, and he never came online. The event organizer decided to give the win to Torb instead of letting me play torb.

What do you mean I almost missed phase 1? I posted my phase 1 tasks before w3... But if you mean I declared my intention to defend near the deadline, well, I do that every trials in the hopes that I get more than 1 challenger in aether if peeps think I'm inactive.

I'm always active in war. It's really the only reason I still play EtG. And if it's any consolation, I now only work 40-50 hrs/wk instead of the 100-120 hrs/wk I've been working the last 5 years. So, I will probably the most active this war since my last war win.

If I lose to w3, I would still participate in war as a soldier. I would still challenge for aether master again next trials. Aside from those PVP events, I usually only do tourneys on the weekends when I can, but my schedule is lighter this year so I may participate in some other PVP events.

Aether is considered a strong element, but that's primarily because of fractal and dim shields for obvious reasons. Aside from those and zaps, the rest of the element is not that useful outside of monoaether. The main weakness of the element is how much quanta each deck requires. Balancing quanta in aether decks is far more difficult than any other element, imo.

Aether doesn't have any hard PC, so it's easy to add that to the element. Maybe PC that removes a stack of perms...like sofree...
