5-4 to Essence for the rentention of the title!

Round 1

Good old Speed Poison.  Looks like Omgarm decided to play his Water/Gravity Momentum deck.  He went several turns with no creatures, and I had plenty of Freezes stockpiled by the time he got them.

Code: [Select]
4vh 4vh 55u 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i8 5i8 5li 5oj 5ur 61r 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 6u3 77f 7gl 7gl 7gl 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gm 7q5
I wanted to play around a bit, so I went for a heavily modified "speed" Rainbow.  Looks like Omgarm stuck with his momentum deck again.  I drew no pillars, but four Supernovas -- discarded one, cast 3, and away we went. I drew my one Hourglass early, but still no pillars by the fifth turn. He got a Dragon and a Hammer out and knocked me down below half, but my swarm of Lycanthropes, Crawlers, and an FFQ knocked him out of the running.

Code: [Select]
4ve 4ve 4vl 4vo 4vo 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 5i4 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6ts 6u7 6u7 6u7 7gt 7gt 7h0 7h0 7h0 7h0
I wanted to play with Nymphs at least once, even if it cost me a round. A second-turn Discord provided massive quanta denial and I thught it would basically seal the game right there. He got out an Oty that kept me from using my Nymphs :(, so I used Butterfly Effect on it to make it destroy instead of devour. Dragons came out on both sides, but he froze mine, and I lost.

Code: [Select]
5i8 5i8 61o 61o 61o 61o 622 622 622 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gp 7gp 7gr 7gr 7gt 7gt 80h
I wanted to bring the pain with some Crawler/Fractal action, but instead an early Quinted Octopus on my part brought the game grinding to a halt. I kept his stuff mostly frozen up until I saved up enough quanta for a Crawler, then a Dragon, and finally a Fractal and 2 more Crawlers, but by then it was a foregone conclusion.

Code: [Select]
5ib 5ib 5ib 5id 5id 5id 5id 5id 621 621 621 6rn 6rn 6rn 6rn 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gp 7gp
I liked the Quinted Squid thing so much that I thought I'd do it again, and throw in a bunch of other defensive mumbo jumbo along the way to guarantee a Mastery.  Then someone spectating pointed out that Shards are illegal, so I forfeited the match.

3-2 Essence

<<I didn't record this deck, but it was basically Water beatsticks with Gravity Shield, Gravity Pull, and Titan>>
I wanted to try the mirror match, and I was a bit too conservative with my Gravity Pulls at first.  He piled on the damage with 4 Blue Crawlers, and alternately Froze or Grav Pulled my beasties.  At the very last, I could have killed him, but I got paranoid and Grav Pulled a dragon instead, and the damage that would have won me the game was wasted on a critter.  He stomped me for his second purely legit win.

3-3 Tied Up

(Round 1's deck again, but killed mark)

I screwed up my mark and couldn't cast any water spells, so I conceded.

4-3 Omgarm

Code: [Select]
5ib 5ib 5ib 5id 5id 5id 621 621 621 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gk 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gm 7gp 7gp
Early Permafrost + Quinted Squid pretty much made this game mine, but a Quinted Ice Dragon heled a lot, too. :)  He did devour a couple of Squids that weren't quinted, but nothing could save him and his frozen horde.

4-4 Tied up again!

I won so hard that I kept the deck just to seal the deal.

The second game started with 2 Abyssal Crawlers vs. 1 Blue Crawler, and I pounded on him for a while, then Permafrost came out and mocked him endlessly.  The match ended by omgarm's concession after I quinted an Ice Dragon and he had no real response.

5-4 Essence, for the win!

Actually, omgarm and I are having our final matchup right now. :)

Well, you can have it for fun but the end result makes no difference because he PM'd me saying he won't have time to be a Master in case he happened to win.

Yes Essence is clearly the better candidate. Congrats on keeping your title Essence =). My sign up was serious though. Don't assume I was merely joking.

I'm sorry I didn't copy my decks. As I said I don't have time to play the game and thus completely forgot I was nearly broke. With only enough money for one mark change (previous being time) and only feeling confident about a few deck combos I went with gravity.

All my decks varied between:

1 Hammer
12-15 Water Pillars
0-3 Oty (One game I had an upped, being the only upped I used, but it never got to see the battlefield)
0-4 Gravity pulls
0-4 Momentum
5-6 Crawlers
3-5 Dragons
1-3 Purify (I always keep one as filler to win against a very unlikely deck-out, 3 when I thought you went poison.
0 or 3 Squids 3 none, no middle ground :P!
1-6 Freeze
0-5 Ice Bolt

Due to limited elemental choices (perhaps I should've chosen water as a mark and splashed towers, hoping for some odds...) I didn't use a lot of interesting cards. Flooding and Nymph's Tears were a no-go due to probable deck size and cost.

Very interesting matches in the end. Even though I got 3 really lucky wins I did much better than expected.

Nicely done omgarm, considering you had a big disadvantage with upped cards.
