Title: [8th Trial of Water] ddevans96 5 - 1 Blacksmith

Fin. Great games Blacksmith, hard to lose with RNG and upgrades on my side.

Game 1 - Nymphcord (WON): I chose to use this Game 1 because it's severely at the whims of RNG, but it's satisyfingly powerful when it works right, so if it loses here, no big deal, there's 8 games left, but if it wins, it's a good morale boost. I got a pretty good draw, with an early Crawler, Discord, and SoFo, but he got an early PA'd Wings, which completely stifled my offense. I then got a Gravity Nymph and sucked two Novas worth of quanta, preventing him from doing anything else, and I ran him down before what he already had could kill me.

Game 2 - Lionfish (LOST): I wanted to follow up my best denial deck with my best rush, but rushing isn't exactly effective with a 2 unupped quanta draw. Meanwhile, his draw was excellent, getting out Crawlers very quickly, and my hand was so stuffed that I had no chance of managing a comeback. Needless to say, he completely destroyed me.

Game 3 - Serpentine (WON): I brought out the beast to swing the tide back into my favor. I got a Poseidon out on turn three, and whittled away at his quanta, but I had to make some decisions with my earth quanta, so for quite a while his Squid froze my damage, while his Mummy posed a threat. Eventually, I broke through, BBed all his creatures, and played a Dragon to push my damage high enough to win.

Game 4 - Tainted Frost (WON): I got a Phys on turn 1 and an Octopus turn 2, preventing him from easily NT'ing to get an Auburn, as he would now need two NTs and the quanta to play both at once. Those never came, and with a flown Arsenic, I built up damage steadily, even despite having all my quanta destroyed. With an Auburn, this might have been a close match, but as it happened, he had no chance.

Game 5 - Nightbreaker (WON): He played his Wingbow again, and I got a Vamp out pretty quickly, growing it up, as well as Stealing his Dagger, but he again PA'ed a Wings, and his Toads killed all my lesser grown vamps, leaving only a 12|12 one out. It was enough to kill him before he killed me, however, due to the fact I was able to heal sufficiently before the Wings came out.

Game 6 - Patchwork (WON): A homage to a deck patch (you might know him as Pineapple) beat me with in Trials 4. My quanta was lower than I liked, and with no Crawlers for me, my first damage was a Water Nymph. I did eventually get out a Graboid, Pulverizer, and a Squid, and I was granted a Life Nymph, which boosted my damage faster than he could play a horde of Crawlers, and with Dims not being a threat due to Pulvy, I simply outdamaged him.

Format: (deck size if >30) Name [games possible] [upgrades / shards used] [elements] (cards planned to upgrade mid-match)

(39) Serenity [20 / SoP] [Mono]
Crystal Cenote [20 / SoP] [Aether]
Neon [27] [Aether] < almost used game 5
Valkyrie [ODD ONLY] [22] [Air] (wings)
Cthulhu [28] [Darkness]
Argyroneta [29] [Death]
Sapphire Aegis [22] [Earth] (wardens) < almost used game 3
Rippler [27] [Entropy]
Misted Down [26] [Fire]
Gravybomb [ODD ONLY] [21] [Gravity / Air] (bucklers, catapults)
Lostlorn [25] [Life] < almost used game 3
(43) Ganga [Light] [29]
Tempora [Time] [27] < almost used game 4
Flowing Reflection [28] [Rainbow / Entropy]
Aquafreak [29] [Rainbow / Fire] < almost used game 6
Ghostbow [19] [Rainbow / Time] (nightmares, ghosts)

Decks scrapped due to bans: Etherian Wave (dims), Clouded Prism (bw), Amarith (SoD)
Decks never coded: Ecotone (life), Apocalypse (fire), Cascade (rainbow, multiple mods), Heartsmasher (rainbow), Virtue (light/aether), unnamed earth stall, unnamed aether/NT 'rush', unnamed crusader/long sword deck

Deflagration and Steal (odd) - Having the two most simple PC cards banned in odd games meant I could use perm-reliant decks more safely. Here, I used Discord, Posei, and SoP in odd matches.

Lightning, Wings, Reverse Time (even), Iridium Warden (all) - Similiar to above, except CC instead. The decks I used in even games were more creature-reliant than the other three. Warden got an all ban because SoP Wardens is simply too powerful of a CC deck to want to deal with.

Tears, Queen, Gravity Shield (odd), Graboid (even), Discord (all) - Powerful cards I wanted to limit the use of, and in the latter case, prevent completely.

Wings and Lightning (even), Gravity Shield (odd) - I decided to stagger my two shield bans, so that I would only have to think about one of them while picking a deck, and not both. Also, I staggered Lightning and Gravity Shield, so you couldn't run a rainbow with both, which is potentially game-changing.

Graboid (even), Deflagration (odd) - This sounds kind of crazy, but what makes Novabows most frustrating to me is the combination of really fast creatures with Novas, and a Deflag to finish. These, while good bans for other reasons, were staggered to prevent this.

No Shards - I have no issue with shards, so I decided that if Blacksmith wanted any particular shard banned, he'd have to use the points himself.

No Dim Shield - While it's certainly a very powerful card, I decided that I wasn't going to ban it, because in my opinion it wasn't as good against me as Wings and Gravy Shield and the vast majority of the decks I built (including all six I used here) are built to be able to fight against it.

Pulvy destroyed me. An early arsenic might, might have made this closer but no arsenic and no bonewall means loss. This is like 80% vs 20% matcup anyway so fair.

An early squid from him prevented me to play NT. Waited for another NT or permafrost the whole game. I drew 3 tridents and pillar/pends. Bad rng is bad!!
(http://i.imgur.com/3hXCtmU.png)1 nymph tears and no permafrost in 14 cards. Not good.

Only deck that won so far. I'd give it another go. Half bad draw vs good draw on his side. Lost with 1 turn.

Yeah, tough match against a strong opponent with more upgrades. That said, deck picks are even more important, as we can see.

You must be as the salmon jumping up the waterfall, I guess.

Thank you.

In game 2 you confused your mark, Blacksmith.
Yup I did. We actually had to restart twice due to that....  It's supposed to be aether but I never changed the mark in deck manager.
