5th Trials - Bootsza (Life) 3 - 1 Ralouf1 (Death) https://elementscommunity.org/forum/index.php?topic=36407.msg457677#msg457677
« on: February 07, 2012, 09:17:45 pm »
I was really looking forward to these games but Ralouf1 got hit pretty hard with the RNG stick and that took some of the expected awesomeness out of it.

Ralouf:  When your decks work - they really fly.  Thanks for your sportsmanship and being so patient in setting up the games.  A pleasure to play against you.

Screenshots to follow.

Game 1: LOSS 0-1
I went with my mono-life and got off to a great start.  My deck was flying and I thought I was in with a chance but when Ralouf dropped Wings I knew it was over.  Solid deck choice by him

Game 2: WIN 1-1
I decided to go with a splash of darkness.  Ralouf did too but his dagger was stolen and the game was mine!

Game 3: WIN 2-1
I know adrenaline is banned but I wasn't going to let that stop me!  I went with my life/water combo with nymphs and things worked out well.  Ralouf's dodgy RNG luck was starting to kick in now.  Purify and staff supplied some very needed healing.

Game 4: WIN 3-1
I took a chance here and replayed my deck from Game 3.  I figured I had not seen much poison yet and might need the purify power.  I also cannot resist the chance to play nymphs!  Ralouf had another tough time of it with RNG and when the adrenaline started flowing, it was game and match.  Screenie should show the final turn where my beasties did 33+ dmg to take it down

Same here, you were a very nice opponent and games were a pleasure, Even if RNG didn't wanted to let me win (mindgated him twice, lost twice thanks to chain pillar draw).

Anyway Bootsza deserved this win all his decks were very well built and scarily effective. I'm sure that could have ended differently but I always think that when I loose.

Game 1 : used the wyrm :

he started fast, I started pretty slowly with lot of quanta generation, at 50 HP I played a wings and killed him with what I had in my hand (arsenic + recluse + dragon)
1-0

Game 2 : darkness domin :

Deck import code : [Select]

Started slowly with only one pillar and 3 pends. I had a vamp dagger but didn't played it because I feared the steal. But I was going to die so I played my dagger. he stole it. Drew another pend.. and finally a steal. Too late. he won with 9 HP. Close game gg.
1-1

Game 3 : MONODEATH :

As soon as I saw his mark I smiled : water mark mean purify. Aka useless card in this match as I intended to rush him. got a fair hand. Played one recluse -> freeze. and a staff. Played 2 recluse next turn. he had 2 growing spirit. I played 2 mummy. he got a nymph. I kept drawing pillar and pend since 3 turns. Then RNG changed the draw I got a pillar. Then I drew a mark. how fun.. gg. He won with ~10 HP iirc
1-2

Game 4 : same deck

I saw water mark I thought I made a good deck choice again. Maybe the RNG would let me take this one ? I had a recluse + arsenic on my second turn, he played freeze + nymph. I drew a pillar and played an other recluse. he used a purify. I drew a pillar and I played a mummy. his hand was empty. he drew a spirit. I drew a pillar. he drew a frog. gg by 3 HP..
1-3

GG Bootsza you were a very good opponent ! Very close games

Nice decks both of you. I especially like how ralouf pulled out his wyrm deck (it's one of my personal favorites). Nice use of the mono death being no poison, but I'm wondering why you packed bonewall. Personally, I would feel that skull shield would've probably been the better choice since :life creatures are frail and Bootsza was using adrenaline and frogs.

Thanks, actually I used BW because Blondey banned adrenaline for our life opponent. Moreover I don't like skull shield because it always fail me where bone wall can give 1/2 or even 3 turns without taking any damage.

True, but the skull shield gives you 1 point reduction for each hit. Bootzsza used the life nymph in the first game, so you should've expected the possibility of him using it on his life creatures. Skull shield also makes adrenalined frogs explode into skeletons whereas bone wall just falls rapidly. It's a shame you didn't bring the wyrm back into any other games though, since he only packed PC into one of his decks.

Personally, I would feel that skull shield would've probably been the better choice since :life creatures are frail and Bootsza was using adrenaline and frogs.
However, Adrenaline the spell was banned for this part of Phase 2 and thus Bootsza was forced to use Adrenaline solely from his Green Nymph(s) which are not that common to see in competitive play.  I doubt that ralouf really expected to see a lot of Adrenaline spam in his first game nor the remainder with that ban in mind.  Also, seeing as how Bootsza changed his play style to allow for Steals in game 2 and then Forest Spirits in the remainder of his matches shows that Skull Shield may have become a hindrance.  If ralouf had taken this into account and chosen not to use Skull Shields for this reason, then that was a wise play on his part.  If not, then it still worked to his advantage.

Actually yes I feared steal in the next games that's why I didn't used the wyrm nor skull shield in the game we made. And I should have do it..
Also I think that monodeath should have win the games but I drew tons of quanta when I needed creatures and lost.

Good points and I am seriously impressed to see such quality analysis of this match!

I am fortunate to have enough green nymphs in my collection to use them effectively.  When adrenaline was picked as ban, I deliberately started working on a strategy involving them as a surprise tactic.

It is also very important in best of 5 matches to have some versatility.  Good players will adapt to what you are throwing at them  Ralouf1 took a couple of minutes between games 3 and 4 to consider what his next move / changes should be.

It is part of the beauty and fun of PvP.  It gives the game depth and strategy.  In this match, I was fortunate that my double bluff of playing the same deck twice in a row paid off.
It is too late to apologise.  I have already forgiven you.

Yes your nymphs were totally a surprise for me and were a big part in your win in the last match.

Also I love BO5 or more, when we can change deck each round. this is just full of skills, deckbuilding, mindgating and coutering the opponent.. I really like it. I think that those minuts I took were not enough ^^
