I completely rebuilt the standings spreadsheet to match the new ruleset and scoring. I improved updating process by adding drop-down menus for scoring. Also, standings are now auto-sorted and challengers are listed based on their score so that the challenger under the Master is the top challenger.
I also made a new Final Battle sheet that will be posted when the time comes.

That looks gorgeous SG - well done!
-
Looks great indeed! Well done.
I'd love to join myself but I'm not fond of the entire popularity contest wich is part of the trials. I don't think I'd make a great Master anyway.
I'lll be following these trials with great interest nonetheless! Good luck to all participants and all masters.

I don't understand why so many people call it a "popularity contest" like it's somehow a bad thing. There's nothing wrong with letting the community give extra points to people who they think would make the best Master.
It's important to remember that Trials are not just another PvP event. Idea is to find a person who is the "face" of a certain element. We've had Masters who took the whole thing as nothing more than a PvP event without really caring about the element they picked. Then we've had Masters who might not be that active in PvP but really promote their Element and represent it every chance they got. My vote goes to the latter every single time.
I would also like to add that the "popularity contest" is a very small part of the Trials because it's only 10 points divided between all 5 players. Phase 1 alone gives everyone 9 points or 12 if you get the bonus.
-
Player A completes 1 task in phase 1 for only 3 points and 1 point bonus.
Player B completes all the tasks and gains 9 points only without a bonus.
C & D dont do any tasks.
Player A gets last in phase 2 and Player B takes third for 1 point. C & D get 1st and 2nd respectively.
People favour Player A over Player B, and Player A gets 70% of the votes and Player B only gets 5%. C & D get 12 and 13% respectively for 1 point each.
Total
Player A = 11
Player B = 10
Player C = 7
Player D = 4
Even though Player B did better in the first two phases, he still loses out to Player A because of the votes. Player A goes on to beat the master and all is well,
or is it.......
-
You can also come up with scenarios in which the player receiving the most votes doesn't win. That doesn't mean Phase 1 & 2 are unfair. All 3 phases contribute to determine the winner, and all 3 give the challengers the opportunity to prove why they should be master.

I'm ignoring some of the above because the points are set, and no matter how they're set there will be some concern over how they're set. But there seems to be some confusion over the 3 bonus points I'm awarding.
Additionally the Trials Overseer will award 3 bonus points to the player from each element who has the best overall submissions.
Just to be clear:
- If nobody from :aether completes all three tasks, nobody from :aether gets bonus points. 3 bonus may still be awarded to each of the other 11 elements.
- If one player from :aether completes all three tasks, he is awarded the 3 bonus points. No matter how insanely idiotic his submission is.
- If 2-5 players from :aether complete all tasks, I will award 3 bonus points to the one :aether player that has the best overall submissions.
Then I'll move on to :air and so on.

Any special reason I got 4 points for Task 2?

Its a handicap I suppose

I agree with SG. I even think popularity should count even MORE in trials since being a Master is all about promoting the element than PvP stuff. The best example for this would be Bloodshadow who, despite my past harsh criticisms towards him, served as an excellent first Master of Darkness even though he hardly ever participated in PvP.
In other notes... I'm kinda saddened to see (well at least up to now) only about half of the competitors in certain elements did work on Phase 1.

Yep I'm gonna pwn Trials, short bus style!

The Trials are harsh. I understand now.
Due to a few little errors for my tasks, despite all the effort (which were many, task 1 was a horror) I've put in them, I've receieved zero credits. I realize I will not be able to compete with the other Air contenders anymore and do not with to embarass myself further. Therefore, I wish to withdraw from the Trial of Air.
Good luck to other Air Trial contenders. I'm rooting for you DD for giving me the inspiration of designing and trying new decks by myself! :)

The other Air Trialists didn't fare so well in the first Phase either, surely not out of the competition. Sad to see people withdraw.
-
Depressing. If you're down, you keep fighting. To all the other competitors in the Air Trials, keep going. Impress the community.

why do you leave, you get a parasite and you've still got a good chance...

The problem is that this "down" is too much. I've done 80% of the tasks but not even receive any credits. For example, for task one, I've included all three screenshots, score and rings and everything, but forgot to post the deck itself. Bam, zero points. That thing took hours. I do not wish to embarass myself and continue to work in vain.

Noobie, you were my favourite Air challenger and I had my third highest confidence rating on you. I can understand leaving after something like that. You can grow stronger by powering through some things, but I can't decide if this is one of those things for you. I know how completely and fully something can kill your motivation for an event like this, and a game should be fun, so I can't blame you.
I can, however, speak to your rationality. You can just do the rest for the fun and nothing else since there's no more meticulous paperwork after this. The final effect will be two things: you and everyone else will have a good time, and you will gain regard as a forum member and as a candidate for Master of Air.
If you have more reasons for dropping out, fine by me. I'm just trying to motivate you, because I think it's worth getting done. War was.

So who got the bonus points in :time?

So who got the bonus points in :time?
I apologize for the delay. Results will be tabulated within two hours. ^-^

How about a summary as to why each person got the bonus points over the others?
Have you tested out the decks people used for the arena challenge?
After writing all that I did, I feel an explanation is warranted.

Well, kev probably has enough to do already without having to write of an explanation for each winner. But I agree it would be nice if he's willing to spend the time.

is there any reason why so many of the Masters have no points except for bonus points?? Are they just trying to make this more of a challenge or do they not care that much??

I won't go over each submission but I can elaborate a bit on this:
"Additionally the Trials Overseer will award 3 bonus points to the player from each element who has the best overall submissions."
All in all I looked for those who were doing everything in their power to prove they'd be the best representative of their element. This included being helpful to the best of one's ability, being creative but thorough while solving problems, and painting his element in the best light possible. It was relatively easy to tell the players who were completing tasks to complete tasks from the players who embraced the challenges and opportunities to help the community. Although I generally view an attempt at correct spelling and grammar as an important component of offering forum advice, I did not consider it while reviewing submissions (mainly for fear of excluding players who don't speak English as a first language).
I know that acknowledging one player's efforts and not others results in several sad faces and only one happy one. It's no comfort, but rest assured that I did read every word every one of you wrote. And it really appears to me that a few points from a qualitative assessment improved the overall quality of submissions and therefore the community. I'm always happy to hear feedback though, either publicly in the feedback thread or anonymously in the PvP Event Feedback Form that will be sent to participants after the Trials conclude.

Four Masters aren't returning, four got full credit, and four just didn't have the time as I understand it.
