For the banned cards... what if you can use them, but only if you play mono?? lol

it would be too easy to have my mono Light win 90% of the game, so no. I'm going to have to satisfy with 70%.

Sure you can choose just one, or even zero, it's just not the optimal way to gain points.

Since the halfblood research is likely to help out newbies who won't have nymphs, building nymph decks is probably shooting yourself in the foot - unless you do it with Nymph's Tears.

In my deckbuilding portion, I plan to build unupped and rareless for newbies, but I'm assuming unupped isn't mandatory?

Yes, I'm pretty sure you can go unpped. In fact, I challenge everyone to go with unupped deck with a decent win rate of course. ;D
