Xinef vs Kevkev60614
Bans: Devonian Dragon and Rage Potion (Xinef's ban seems kind of pointless, considering he can't use Dragons. Well, at least he has his Deja-Vu's safe)
Well... worst case scenario was this:
- He bans Pharaohs and kills everything else with RPs, bolts and RoFs. There is no way I can deal 100 damage without playing at least 6 Silurian Dragons and dealing 22 damage with something else. In the meantime he kills me with a single Fahrenheit. I can try playing Anubis rush against this kind of deck, but if he packs enough CC he can kill even Anubises before they can start quinting themselves. Or, expecting anubises, he can simply outrush me.
Now this kind of strategy will be severely weakened even though he can still bolt, RoF and fire-buckle all my creatures, at least some of them should survive more than 1 turn. Dragons wouldn't survive more than 1 turn anyway, so I don't feel much weakened without ability to pay 12
for 13 damage.
Luckily, fire has no way to lobotomize creatures (other than killing them), so I have a broader choice of creatures against kevkev. Fate Eggs, Deja Vu, Anubises, Pharaohs, Scarabs... all can be used. Dune Scorpion is still out of question though x|
You might be wondering why I didn't ban Deflag, the card I most fear from my opponents? Well... you can't defeat firestall with Eternities and Turtle Shields anyway. They are useful against firerush, but since with these mono decks Time has so little versatility, it is possible to make decks that are extremely hard to counter even if you expect them. That's why I have to be prepared both against firestall and firerush. And permanents generally don't fit this purpose. I can try making a permanent based deck if I guess he is about to play rush, and takes no deflags since he expects me to play permanentless... but that's probably a Russian roulette kind of tactic, if you know what I mean.
I was wondering about banning RoF, since no matter what, I have to rely on creatures. 1 RoF can kill many strategies. 2 RoFs can kill the majority of them. 3 RoFs can kill anything that survived until midgame (around the time when opponent draws his 3rd RoF). Though, I'm mostly expecting to lose creatures 1 turn after playing them, so RoF isn't that big of a threat either.
Now... let's see if I can prove that I'm a capable Master of Time, and win even against the odds. Maybe I'm just overestimating my opponent. Maybe. Time was capable of defeating Fire multiple times during war, mostly through surprise (no, not Fate eggs
). I wonder if I'll manage to achieve that. Especially since I'm still wondering why I'm writing all this before actually fighting kevkev. For some reasons, I like the approach - 'Tell your opponent your strategy. He will either be amazed how brilliant strategist you are, and forfeit without battle, or he'll be baffled by the fact you did. If you lose afterwards, you'd lose anyway.'
Well... I guess I'm not good enough with this strategy to achieve the first effect, but second or third one is good enough.
