I'm not really pleased by people signing up for trials without putting up an effort and thereby preventing other, more motivated people to join that element's trials.
To prevent this, I thought up something that will solve this problem, though I'm not sure whether it's worth the drawback.
Basically, Phase 1 is "proving of worthiness", right? So just how does it make sense some challengers aren't deemed "worthy" enough before even being given the chance to prove anything? My point is to remove the cap for signups, only after phase 1 will the cap be enforced by choosing the 4 best challengers, challengers are primarily ranked by the points they scored, followed by either their performance in these tasks, or by the usual measurement of score/posts etc.
Of course, this will have downsides for primarily the trials overseer, for potentially having that much more work; for the masters, because unpopular elements no longer get people who wanted to sign up for trials but couldn't enter in their preferred element, while more popular elements get more challenging challengers.
Though I do think it's a good thing for challengers, since, in my opinion, each challenger should challenge the trials of none other than their favorite element. I mean, what kind of an impression does it make to have someone become master of an element that was basically their third or whatever-th choice?
