Actually I have a question. Why only 6 races? Is that all there is in the Doctor Who lore, or is there a way to squeeze in a few more so we can have all elements represented?
The event is based primarily on a specific episode titled "The Time of the Doctor," in which the six races in the event fight in a nine-hundred year war on Trenzalore. However, I suppose I could include a couple other races anyways.
There are actually
hundreds of races in Doctor Who, but most of them aren't very memorable. The vast majority were seen in only one or two episodes, which makes writing about them rather boring.
I don't want to include all twelve Elements for balance reasons. Aether is way too strong because it can spam Dimensional Shields against races without in-Element PC, not to mention cards like Fractal and Lightning. Entropy is also too powerful because of Discord - it dominates a primarily unupgraded mono/duo metagame. Fire and Death have a lot of possibilities - they can rush, or stall, or anything in between. They're too versatile; the other Elements would have difficulty competing with them. I could even it out by giving their class 0 upgrades and a weak ability, but even then, I'd rather have an event where the less popular Elements are played more, and the stronger, more popular Elements are played less. Air is just really difficult to come up with a race for, as not many of the races in Doctor Who can fly on their own, without the use of a spaceship. I could perhaps include the Krillitanes, but they've only been in one episode, in 2006.
However, there's still Water to work with. For Water, I could use the Ice Warriors, who have made a few appearances over the course of the show, including a recent appearance in 2013. There wouldn't really be any balance issues. I just don't want the event to become overcomplicated, with too many races to choose from. But I suppose people already have a good idea of what their favourite Elements are, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
So, what are the community's thoughts on having Ice Warriors in the event?
Also, why do gravity and earth have double the upgrades of Darkness and Time? I get that the elements themselves may not be balanced, but considering off element cards can be used (up to 60% of a deck can be off element), that's quite the advantage for Gravity and Earth.
It's only 4 more upgrades. I think it balances them out pretty nicely. Furthermore, with only 15 Support Cards, it's hard to make decks that are 60% off-Element without burning through too many resources.
