If you're using an AETHER pillar, it's an aether card, regardless of what you're paying with it.

You can use marks to power those abilities.  When in combination with pendulums of other elements it works fine.

Will there ever be a tournament 1 hour later than the usual time?  Tournaments always start when I'm at a soccer game.
