Winning war or winning trials??

Players who win 2-1 in Round 1 can change 3 off-element cards to anything.
Players who win 2-1 in Round 2 can do the same. This means that the maximum cards a player can change is 4 (if we don't count Mark cards and nymphs).

I don't understand what this means.

Winning war or winning trials??

It's obviously Winning Brawl.

A lot of good questions, and the answer is 42.

About the confusing parts, the rules are now updated. Thanks for the keen observations!

Q: What happens if someone plays 12 games before the tournament ends? Are they allowed to start over?
A: While we don't expect this to happen in Single Elimination, if it happens, the oldest used element becomes allowed after each game.

Q: What about decks that originally had sideboard? Do they have to be played as they were, without any changes?
A: Those decks should be played with the sideboard, without any changes.

i think this is a great tournament idea that gets me very excited for war.
perhaps the upgrade advantage for losing matches 2-1 when you could've played to win 2-0 should be addressed but i dont think it is worth having less elements to choose from for your next games especially if my suggestion is implemented.
due to the nature of whats decks you may face being quite finite(upgrades my vary) i think for this tournament there should be up to 10 mins between games in a match so you and your opponent can work out what elements they have left and are likely to play

edit: to add on this there may also be upgrades you need to decide on midmatch even if you have decks planned

Tournament Organizer Note

It is still early, so we decided to change a few things.

We completely removed the following rule:

We also updated one of the rules to the following:

We also changed an answer to a previous question. It is now as follows:

Q: What happens if someone plays 12 games before the tournament ends? Are they allowed to start over?
A: In case of 9+ players, all players regain access to all War elements when Round 1 starts. With this, players will not run out of elements in Single Elimination.
Special rules apply in case of Double Elimination.

The special rules for Double Elimination are only shared when it becomes relevant.

Thank you for your patience.

Poll is added.

Can we make the trophy for this one look like a mini war trophy?
I don't think we would get away with it unharmed. (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/general-discussion/ask-a-simple-question-get-a-simple-answer/msg1118543/#msg1118543) :silly:

Players can only upgrade 12+2R or less cards, regardless how many upgrades the original deck has. (R="current round".)

So are we considering the unupgraded decks in these cases, then upgrading the cards we want?

Uh, this tourney...

- No TOs to host, so as www told we did it as a "group effort". He was the operative host of this tourney.
- Challonge down so we had to find an alternative.
- Only 7 ppl -> double elimination.
- Ppl constantly leaving due to boredom, work or network problems.

It lasted for 4,5 hours. For my 3rd place I sat here about 3,5 hours.

Round 0 vs. mathman101

1-0

I started with Adrenastaves, while he played an NT deck (with quantum pillars). Then the AI took over his board, and eventually won by a narrow
margin (getting a lucky green nymph from the qt). I was kinda furious since I only had 1 flying weapon from ~15 cards. But the game wasn't a dc, he had
some connection problem, so he handed this game to me.

1-1

Played a DBH vs. a death deck (poison,bw,mummy, flesh r.). Something strange happened, since I copied the deck code, and in the first turn I
realized that somehow I have an Earth mark instead of Gravity. I quickly checked my original deck code at dek.im, and it showed the Gravity mark correctly.
I cannot imagine what happened, since my earlier deck had a Life mark. Strange. Nevertheless, mathman was kind enough to let me restart the game
with the correct mark. My starting hand was nearly identical, I was able to play out a Discord around turn 2, but that helped only for a while, because
a few turns later he was able to play out a BW, and another one... Since I had only 1 Charger on the board (other two lurked in my deck's bottom :( ) he eventually
outdamaged me. It was a really narrow game.

2-1

Adrenastaves PU vs. Adren Catatitans. He played out his first combo, I played out mine, too. Then I PU'd the Titans, and it kinda meant game over quickly.

Round 1 vs. www

0-1

My poison deck couldn't gather enough damage before he set up his RoL/Fractal/SoPa/Hope combo (he had 24 hp at the end).

0-2

Opted for an Air deck, had very good chances to win, but in the penultimate and the last turn he drew 2 Steals, and it decided the game. He stole two of my Wings.
Just one Steal wouldn't be enough for him - but this turned me 1 turn short of winning.

Played a Graboid deck, everything went well for a while... until he equipped his Wings...

0-2

The hell knows why didn't I think about Firestall... Let's just say that I was very hungry, I haven't got a bite of food for hours. So instead of Disquake
something equally tasty I used this Darkness deck, packed with CC. For a while I was musing about mass hitting his HP with Thunderbolt/Siphon, but a
Reflective Shield popped up, making the whole game pointless - from my perspective.

All in all: 3rd place ok, sitting there for 3,5 hours not okay. Didn't have much time to check war decks, though.
