TOURNAMENTS FAQ

Q: How many copies of each card in the list I can use in a deck?
A: Since it is not specified, up to 6.

Q: There's a mandatory number of special list cards I've to use in a deck?
A: Nope.

Q: What does it means: "Once you used a card from this list, you can't use it again for the rest of the tournament, even against the same opponent."???
A: It means that once you used a card, that card is gone and you cannot use it anymore, for the rest of the tournament.

Q: Why I've to post cards I've used, if I win a match?
A: This way we can track cards used, and every further match will become more difficult, since your opponent will know what cards you can still use (And vice versa, of course)

Having won similarly ruled tournament Origins (http://elementscommunity.org/forum/tournament-archive/weekly-tournament-september-20th-origins-unupgraded/), I would recommend having some sort of ruling that allows players that play an extra round to recover some of those cards for the finals.

Getting a first round bye has a huge impact on the cards still available to players in later rounds.  I believe Jen-i will agree that I had a large lead going into the finals just based on how many possible decks I could still create.

Hmm, maybe something like Rent-a-Deck's mechanic? When you win you take a card from your opponent (if you don't already have it).

My fault, I forgot a rule, something has been lost in copy/paste...

SPECIAL RULES EDITED:

- Players that will receive a bye in the first round have to choose 6 cards to discard.
Title: Re: Weekly Tournament - November 29th - No Country for Old Men - Unupgraded
Post by: RootRanger on November 25, 2014, 06:57:34 pm
That's an improvement, but it's not difficult to find 6 cards on the list that have almost no value whatsoever.

How about 12 cards? Even at that point, I'd have a preference towards receiving a bye.

Or, alternatively, players re-gain cards they used in Round 1 at the start of Round 2.

12 cards would be too many. We're going to discuss it, in case of modify we'll tell ya. Thanks for feedback.

"Non pillars/non pendulums cards allowed are only those in the special list."

There are no shards in the special list.

You still have cards to use. Pillars, pendulums and mark cards. But most likely you will lose.

 ;)

You use a 30-pillar deck and lose (unless you deck your opponent out).

How about you lose the amount of cards that your opponent used when receiving a bye first round? So basically your cards are identical to the player you're facing if you received a bye first round.

He's saying that if you get 1st round bye, you lose cards that your 2nd Round opponent used in first round.

Well you had a problem with it being an advantage to get a by since you would have more cards later on. So why not have the people who are having a by losing the same cards as the opponent they're facing?
In other words. Player X use card A,B and C in his first game and can therefore not use those cards again, player Y who received a by may not use any of the cards player X used first round, A,B and C in other words.

Oh, it was a purpose. Actually I don't like too much to force a player to discard cards used by another player. Btw, thanks for the feedback we'll take in consideration your suggestion.

I think we'd try to build a 60 card piller deck for hopes of deck out

One day I'll find a tournament that I can participate in!

Also, seriously? you consider flying weapon an OP card, or is it a kind of "make things more interesting" reason to exclude it... :3

Cards to discard in case of a bye are still matter of discussion between TO's.

Tthe cards Special list has been filled up trying to make the metagame most interesting and various as possible, and that's why we excluded some cards rather than others.

SPECIAL RULES EDITED:

After a long and careful discussion, we finally stated these rules for cards to discard in case of byes:

  • From 9 to 15 participants, who will receive a bye has to discard: 10 cards
  • From 17 to 31 participants, who will receive a bye has to discard: 8 cards
  • From 33 to 63 participants, who will receive a bye has to discard: 3 cards

Thanks to all for the feedback, support and patience. A big thanks to submachine and Dm for the big help in balacing this tourney.

17-31 and 33-63 bit ambitious that don't think there aren't enough active members interested to make half those numbers even in their prime did you ever get 33-63 participants. :P

From: http://elementscommunity.org/forum/pvp-tournaments/tournament-rules/

Quote
1.6 - 64 player limit
Each tournament has a maximum of 64 players. If we have more than 32 players, we will have a fast 10 minute "best-of-one" preliminary round to determine which 32 players go to round 1.

Moreover, with 64 players we'll no byes.

TO Ruling : Since having 15 people discard before the tourney even starts seems counter productive, the match of Root vs Henric will be voided (there are no discards after the match.) They may not reuse the same cards against eachother, however. Blacksmith does not toss away any cards due to receiving a bye.

This has been done to ensure that the card amount is consistent to all rounds AND to better accomodate the majority of players (AKA those not in prelims.) I will explain this to other TO's if necessary.
