We should determine the type of card by it's little icon (or numbers) in the bottom right of its picture, not, as in this case, by the game mechanics that pop-up from time to time - that is reflective shields. Right, mr. Examiner?

Your deck must incude ONLY creatures or ONLY permanents or ONLY spells. Pillars/Towers & Pendulums can be included in every type of deck (even those who are creature-only or spell-only).

There are sooo many combos that seem to "cheat" by the discussion. Wouldn't using a skull shield and boneyard potentially give you skeleton creatures? Are these things, and similar, allowed?

Boneyard/Graveyard is already banned for that reason. Skull shield/buckler works on your opponent's creature, so it is creature->creature which is ok.

 The problem is that Crusader acts as a weapon's Steal or an Animate Weapon spell. If you believe Steal needs to be banned, then why not Crusader too?

Because the issue is whether or not you have a weapon/creature/perm when your deck is meant to be strictly not. Crusader steals the ability, but doesn't steal the perm itself, so it's logical why it is allowed. If you have an all spell deck, then only thing on your side should be spells. Likewise, an all creature deck should only have creatures. 'Tis why crusader is ok.

Why isn't TU allowed? Bc that would be a spell deck that gained creatures. Crusader does not gain a weapon, just the ability and attack. Seems grey to some, I suppose, but logically black and white to me.

Then again, this is potentially my first tourny, so I may be missing the point...

Updated the ban list with consideration to the discussion.

• Removed Chaos Power (upped version only). It was there mostly because rules confusion last week among people who haven't read the rules thoroughly enough forced me to consider against banning only one version of a card, but not the other. Hopefully, everyone will take some time to read the rules this time around
• Removed Aflatoxin. (Turns a creature into another creature. Fair enough.)
• Added Steal/Improved Steal. (Stealing non-Pillar/Pend permanents when you're only supposed to be using spells? Nope.)
• Added Nova/Supernova. (Generating Singularities when you're not supposed to have any creatures? Nope.)

In terms of the whole thing about bans, it's mostly just a thematic thing. If you're playing an all-spell deck, you shouldn't have any creatures and non-Pillar/Pend permanents in play.

@ Crusader -- OK, so you gain a weapon's ability with Endow. At the end of the day, you still have a creature. Your Crusader doesn't suddenly turn into a permanent or anything. No ban.
@ Parallel Universe -- You end up with a creature on your side of the board when you're not supposed to have any creatures at all. Banned as such.

Hopefully, this clears things up
